McT,did you see Later With Jools Holland tonight (Tuesday) ?

I think I recorded that, Baz, and haven't seen it yet but just in case I didn't, I'll record or watch it tonight. Thanks for the heads-up.
I like The Chieftains very much, I've got an LP of theirs. There was a good documentary on TV a while ago about Irish traditional music and its modern re-invention, and Paddy Moloney played a big part in that.

Great evening, yawl. edgar, had no idea you knew so many languages. Hurry back and thanks for Hushabye . Don't know The Mystics, but they were good. Thanks for your comments.

Hey Brit. One For the Road by the Chairman was a good one.

hbg, I particularly enjoyed that funny Pea Soup song, but my favorite of yours was the Russian songs including The Volga Boatman.

McTag, you sent me searching.

The Chieftains are a Grammy-winning Irish musical group founded in 1962, best known for being one of the first bands to make Irish traditional music popular around the world.

I think that I will continue with Russian music for today on WA2K.

@Barry The Mod,
Thanks, Brit, for restoring our signal. Patti wouldn't play here, but I checked it out and The Ladies Who Lunch was humorous.

The ocean here had an indigo hue today, and as usual I was captivated by it.

Speaking of indigo, here is "old blue eyes" with another hue.

Hey, Brit. Loved Pretty Little Girl by the Chiefains. Also Buddy's song. Liked your visuals better than the one that I played.

Welcome back, edgar. Don't know Slim Harpo, but his raining song was a good one.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First another by "old blue eyes".

Now, remembering The Four Freshmen.

They were Bud's favorite group.

Hope hbg returns and notices that dancing Cossack.

The Rising Sun Treasure Cove Steel Band - Enjoy Yourself.

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

You work and work for years and years, you're always on the go
You never take a minute off, too busy makin' dough
Someday, you say, you'll have your fun, when you're a millionaire
Imagine all the fun you'll have in your old rockin' chair

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

You're gonna take that ocean trip, no matter, come what may
You've got your reservations made, but you just can't get away
Next year for sure, you'll see the world, you'll really get around
But how far can you travel when you're six feet underground?

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Your heart of hearts, your dream of dreams, your ravishing brunette
She's left you and she's now become somebody else's pet
Lay down that gun, don't try, my friend, to reach the great beyond
You'll have more fun by reaching for a redhead or a blonde

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Laters WA2K.

today is the birthday of german composer Friedrich von Flotow - probably best known for his opera " MARTHA " .
here are two great singers with " The Last Rose of Summer " from the opera .
hope you'll enjoy it !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4SN7lPoAKg&feature=related

Quote:
Friedrich Adolf Ferdinand, Freiherr von Flotow (27 April 1812 – 24 January 1883) was a German composer. He is chiefly remembered for his opera Martha, which was popular in the 19th century.

Flotow was born in Teutendorf, in Mecklenburg, into an aristocratic family. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and came under the influence of Auber, Rossini, Meyerbeer, Donizetti, Halévy, and later Gounod and Offenbach. These influences are reflected in his operas, where a distinctive French opéra comique flavour exists.

Hurry back, Brit. Loved Enjoy Yourself. Yep, it's later than we think.

hbg, always love those Dancing Russians, and here are the Celtic Woman's lyrics to The Last Rose of Summer.

'Tis the last rose of summer left blooming alone
All her lovely companions are faded and gone
No flower of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh
To reflect back her blushes and give sigh for sigh

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one, to pine on the stem
Since the lovely are sleeping, go sleep thou with them
Thus kindly I scatter thy leaves o'er the bed

Where thy mates of the garden lie scentless and dead
So soon may I follow when friendships decay
And from love's shining circle the gems drop away
When true hearts lie withered and fond ones are flown
Oh who would inhabit this bleak world alone?
This bleak world alone

And more Cossack music.

Awakened early today having dreamed that hurricane season was here and I had no place to go.

@Barry The Mod,
Ah, Barry, that was the most fantastic song by The Secret Sisters. I did a bit of research and found that came from Godspell. I loved the instrumentation;

cello, flute, harp. Peggy Gordon is an Irish legend, I think, and if I'm not mistaken, the entire Later with Jools was about the parabels in Matthew and Luke and was redone to fit the hippy generation. If I'm incorrect, feel free to say so.

Been reading about Sachmo today and how his last trumpet song is about to be put on cd. I found this great mimic by a Japanese man.

That would put a huge smile on the face of Jools Holland as,at one time, some folks would have described the music that he plays as The Devil's Music.I think you were refering to the musical Godspell in that line Wink.

Norah Jones and Jools....

@Barry The Mod,
Thanks for the clarification, Brit. I was referring to Godspell because I thought that song was based on it.

Love For the Good Times by Norah and Jools. I, of course, remember it best by Kris himself.

Be sure and check out the Japanese Sachmo, and here's a whole group remembering Kris.
