edgar, you're right about The Bismark. Love Jerry Fish and The Mud Bugs song. They said it right. Be Yourself Mistakes and All.

a bit more info about The Bismark.

More than half a century later, the sinking of the Bismarck is receiving renewed attention from James Cameron, the director of Titanic, in a Discovery Channel special (James Cameron's Expedition: Bismarck, airing Dec. 8). Using the latest undersea filming and salvaging equipment, Cameron explored the wreck of the Bismarck, which was first discovered in 1989 lying three miles deep in the waters off the coast of France.

There is some evidence that Winston Churchill may have said that the ship was carrying contraband and thus got us in to WWII.

euro, Welcome back and thanks for your comment. Don't know Horslip by Dearg Doom but it's a great Irish song.

Today is Gordon Jump's birthday. Anyone here remember WKRP in Cincinnati?

@edgarblythe,
I rarely watch any TV. Do have TCM and I will watch those oldies sometimes.

Love Barry's Mandy. He was under rated to me.

How about a song from Jimmie, now. Love the ending by DeBussy, too.

More synchronicity, right? Look at all those oldies at the bottom

@Barry The Mod,
Welcome back to you, too, Brit. Loved Arthur Conley's Get Yourself Another Fool and Funky Street.

Didn't know Marketa so you sent me searching.

Markéta Irglová (Czech pronunciation: [ˈmarkɛːta ˈɪrɡlovaː]) (born 28 February 1988, in Valašské Meziříčí, Czech Republic) is a Czech songwriter, musician, actress, and singer. As of 2010, she resides in New York City.

One fabulous vocalist.The lyrics were lovely as well.

Here's one to match your soul man.

edgar, thanks for your comment once again.

And Everybody's Somebody's Fool by Dexter Gordon. It's an instrumental but the only lyrics that I could find for his song were by Connie. They don't match the melody, however.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, your comments are always delightful. Love "the jester's" Tombstone song. Methinks he was making a wee bit of fun of certain characters in the old testament.

As, you know, I love Little Richard, and that puppet doing Lucille was hilarious.

Bob Dylan's song reminded me of this Delilah.

seeing the bicycles on the album cover reminded me of Holland -
and in turn reminds me of the " Dutch Swing College Band " :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT0TR6veKXs

Quote:
The Dutch Swing College Band "DSCB" is a traditional dixieland band founded on May 5, 1945 by bandleader and clarinetist/saxophonist Peter Schilperoort.

Highly successful in their native home of The Netherlands, the band quickly found an international following. It has featured such musicians as Huub Janssen (drums), Henk Bosch van Drakestein (double bass), Kees van Dorser (trumpet), Dim Kesber (saxes), Wout Steenhuis (guitar), Jan Morks, Arie Ligthart (banjo/ guitar), Oscar Klein (trumpet), Dick Kaart, Ray Kaart, Rod Mason, Bert de Kort cornet and Bert Boeren, among many others.

let's hear them " One More Time " with an old standard that we all know :

( hope you all learned how to speak Dutch Cool )

edgar, Loved Richie Havens' Just Like a Woman. That's a different view as it should be.

hbg, Good to see you in our studio once again. Thanks for your comment and you missed The Bismark. You might want to check it out later.

Ah, Dexter Gordon's "Saxily Yours" was great as was The Dutch Swing.

Going to say goodnight now, and McTag reminded me of this one. Don't think we need the lyrics. Regardless of your belief, this is Sunday and April and I do love this song.

btw. even though Holland is a small country , it has a remarkably vibrant musical life .

in the 60's quite a few former dutch military musicians arrived in canada and formed the nucleus of the ( then ) popular canadian military bands .

in later years many of them - and their children - joined symphony orchestras throughout canada - and they keep enriching canada's musical landscape .

the " Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra " is Holland's major - and world reknown - Symphonie Orchestra .

here they are playing Beethoven's " Leonora Overture " .
( i hope you like it )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3YHHP4HkUU&feature=fvst

Quote:
The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (Dutch: Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, pronounced [ˌkɔnɪnklək kɔnˈsɛrtɣəbʌu̯ɔrˌkɛst]) is a symphony orchestra of the Netherlands, based at the Concertgebouw (concert hall) in Amsterdam. In 1988, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands conferred the "Royal" title upon the orchestra.

In December 2008, a group of top critics invited by Gramophone ranked the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as the top symphony orchestra in the world.

@Letty,
letty ,
i remember the construction of the battleship Bismarck quite well .
the navyyard of Blohm & Voss , Hamburg , was only about a mile from where we lived .
i remember standing on a dock opposite from the launchsite when the Bismarck crashed - literally - into the water of the elbe river .
as many as eight big tugs had lines secured heavy lines to the Bismarck to slow down the big ship upon launch .

Quote:
Bismarck was ordered under the name Ersatz Hannover, a replacement for the old pre-dreadnought SMS Hannover, under contract "F".[1] The contract was awarded to the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, where the keel was laid on 1 July 1936.[4] The ship was launched on 14 February 1939; during the elaborate ceremonies, the ship was christened by the granddaughter of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship's namesake.

Battleship Bismarck in the Port of Hamburg - readied for outfitting .
