@Letty,
Ms. Letty, I'm not a great Bacharach fan--he's no Cole Porter or Gershwin--but I think you have to be a great singer or musician to put life into many of songs. This one by Aretha Franklin I always liked, not to disparage Dionne Warwick's original in any way.

I like the Carpenters and Stevie Wonder's Sunshine of my Life. Bobby Darin If I were a Carpenter, is a high favorite of mine.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for you comments, edgar. Love Walked Right is great as are The Hilltoppers. I had no idea that The Gershwins originally wrote that. Thanks for the memory, Texas.

Walk on By is a fine song, letty. Here is Ray Charles doing an old Floyd Tillman song - only much smoother.

@Letty,
Ms. Letty, I revere Stevie Wonder -- great singer, musician (especially harmonica), composer, and human being. Thank you for playing it. Here's an older hit by Stevie--the song was first recorded by Tony Bennett I believe:

I once was driving, listening to the easy music, when I thought I heard Nat King Cole doing Stevie Wonder. But, I reasoned, Nat died before Stevie's song was written. It took a couple of weeks to track down the singer - Freddy Cole, Nat's brother.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, had no idea Nat Cole had a brother who sang. I'm well aware of his daughter of course. I imagine this arrangement of For Once In My Life must be fairly close to the Tony Bennett version. Stevie & Motown crafted a superior cover in this case, which is ironic, because most of the time, other artists cover motown material. Might be fun to come up with list of notable Motown covers. Money & You Really Got A Hold On Me, by the Beatles, I Heard It Through The Grapevine by CCR, You Can't Hurry Love, by Phil Collins, and lots more

edgar and yitwail. I love all of those versions of Stevie Wonder's song. Thanks to both of you for your comments.

edgar, Ray's Version of I Love You So Much It Hurts Me was great.

Freddy Cole's, excellent.

Hope I didn't miss one of the songs, but you know how I love music.

Going to say goodnight with two songs.

First, The Three Tenors.

Now, Gershwin.

a country musician has his birthday today
" some mighty fine pickin' , i'd say "

Doc Watson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5c1k949Zn4

Quote:
Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson (born March 3, 1923) is an American guitar player, songwriter and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, blues and gospel music. He has won seven Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson's flatpicking skills and knowledge of traditional American music are highly regarded. He performed with his son Merle for over 15 years until Merle's death in 1985, in an accident on the family farm.[1][2]

Watson was born in Deep Gap, North Carolina. According to Doc on his three CD biographical recording Legacy, he got the nickname "Doc" during a live radio broadcast when the announcer remarked that his given name Arthel was odd and he needed an easy nickname to go by. A fan in the crowd shouted "Call him Doc!" presumably in reference to the Sherlock Holmes sidekick Doctor Watson. The name stuck ever since.[4]

An eye infection caused Doc Watson to lose his vision before his first birthday. Despite this, he was taught by his parents to work hard and care for himself

pulled him through .

edgar, thanks again for your comments. Love that one by The Box Tops, and it reminds me of Booman, remember him?

hbg, welcome back. The Senior Hip Hop was funny, and Doctor Watson's Tennessee song was great; Lou Reed's and Pavarotti's A Perfect Day a great one as well.

Don't know your last one, however. Need to check that one out.

Didn't sleep too well because I was concerned about possible Tornadoes.

I was thinking about Naomi Mesbur today, and strangely I have buttercups growing in my yard.

I'm Called Little Buttercup came from this great opera.

Thinking of Three Amigos as well.
