good evening all !
lots of music being played to keep the new speakers busy all evening .
.................................................................................................................
i've noticed some birthday's for today .

let's start with one of the" older " musicians and go from there .

Frederic Chopin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KESTJm1g_N0

( the minute waltz is actually almost two minutes long - people had more time in those days )

a short but brilliant life !
Quote:
Frédéric François Chopin ( /ˈʃoʊpæn/; French pronunciation: [fʁe.de.ʁik ʃɔ.pɛ̃]; Polish: Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin;[1] 1 March 1810[2] ) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist. He is considered one of the great masters of Romantic music and has been called "the poet of the piano".[3]

Chopin was born in Żelazowa Wola, a village in the Duchy of Warsaw. His mother was Polish, and his father was a French immigrant to Poland. A renowned child-prodigy pianist and composer, Chopin grew up in Warsaw and completed his musical education there. Following the Russian suppression of the Polish November 1830 Uprising, he settled in Paris as part of the Great Emigration and never returned to his homeland.

During the remaining 19 years of his life, he gave only some 30 public performances, preferring the more intimate atmosphere of the salon; he supported himself by sales of his compositions and as a piano teacher. From 1837 to 1847 he carried on a relationship with the French writer Amantine Dupin, Baroness Dudevant, who wrote under the male pseudonym "George Sand". For most of his life, Chopin suffered from poor health; he died in Paris in 1849 at the age of 39.

and it's the birthday of one of the early jazz greats - look at all the well-known musicians appearing with him .

it's great to hear them " jazz " together !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtdi8AON1lQ&feature=related

Quote:
Leon Bismark "Bix" Beiderbecke (March 10, 1903 – August 6, 1931) was an American jazz cornetist, jazz pianist, and composer.

With Louis Armstrong, Beiderbecke was one of the most influential jazz soloists of the 1920s. His turns on "Singin' the Blues" (1927) and "I'm Coming, Virginia" (1927), in particular, demonstrated an unusual purity of tone and a gift for improvisation. With these two recordings, especially, he helped to invent the jazz ballad style and hinted at what, in the 1950s, would become cool jazz. "In a Mist" (1927), one of a handful of his piano compositions but the only one he recorded, mixed classical influences with jazz syncopation. Beiderbecke also has been credited for his influence, directly, on Bing Crosby and, indirectly, via saxophonist Frank Trumbauer, on Lester Young.[

hbg, Loved Chopin's minute waltz. Didn't know that one by Bix, because I've only heard it by Ray Charles. Thanks for the introduction.

edgar, Opie singing Gary Indiana was priceless.

Blue Skies by Tommy and Frank was great.

Going to say goodnight with two songs by Chopin.

First, a nocturne.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPvS0g2papI&feature=related

Now, one of my favorites, because you'll hear I'm Always Chasing Rainbows in there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBA-38mzabs

Here are the lyrics.

I'm always chasing rainbows, watching clouds drifting by

My schemes are just like all my dreams
Ending in the sky

Some fellows look and find the sunshine
I always look and find the rain
And some fellows make a winning sometime
And I never even make a gain

I'm always chasing rainbows waiting to find the little bluebird in vain

Nice to have Ontario and Dublin with us today. Hope our London man is alright.

From Letty with love to all of you everywhere

Good early morning from here in Florida.

Ah, Rockhead, The Rainbow Connection by The Muppets. Love it. Also remember The Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams Are Made of This.

edgar, Love that Sweet Dreams by Don Gibson.

hbg, Fantastic Gypsy music, especially the one from Hungary. Braham's Lullabye of course, is always soothing. Wow! That polka was fantastic and your lovely lady looked a bit like Miz Izz.

Thanks to euroGeorge, I did a lot of searching on David Niven movies. More about that later.

Two songs for the early morning.

I dreamed that I was dancing in the streets last evening, so here is one by David Bowie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nREqbwm4ZV4&feature=related

and, a birthday boy tribute.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXdeNPuF9kU

Hope I didn't miss anyone. Miss/Mrs Letty awakened too early today.

@edgarblythe,
Hurry back, edgar.

First, for euroGeorge. David Niven played both a bad guy and a good guy.

Casino Royale 1967 2 stars N/R, 131 min.
Genre: Action / Comedy
Director: John Huston, Val Guest, Ken Hughes, Joseph McGrath, Robert Parrish
Cast: Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, David Niven, Woody Allen, Orson Welles, William Holden, Deborah Kerr, Daliah Lavi, John Huston, George Raft, Joanna Pettet, Charles Boyer, Kurt Kasznar, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Peter O'Toole.

He was a bad guy in Separate Tables, however.

Two songs for the afternoon. First a birthday boy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU-QnF9grmk&feature=related

Now one by Billy Joel that I love, but don't quite understand.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngGgy62lMj0

Both songs deal with "my life"

@yitwail,
ah, turtle man, I love Top of the World. I have noticed so many times that some people say she died of anorexia. Not so. Anorexia simple means loss of appetite. It's anorexia NERVOSA that caused her death.

The first one that I ever heard by Karen was this one.
