Awww. The immensely popular italian singer songwriter Lucio Dalla died today in Switzerland. His was the first ital cd I ever bought, played it until nearly frayed.

Here he is singing his song, Caruso: (looks like this is from a program showing Caruso's place and Dalla doing the song)

SF Chronicle/AP article on Dalla:

@ossobuco,
Dalla and Pavarotti singing 'Caruso' live. That's in Modena, in 1992.
That one makes me cry. (I'm easy..)

@ossobuco,
Ossobuco, Welcome back. I was wondering if you and KickyCan were the only folks on our forum of Italian descent.

Thanks for the info on Lucio Dalla, and both he and Pavarotti do a great job doing Caruso.

As we have often observed, all Italians can sing.

Here is my favorite by Enrico.

At the end, look at the English lyrics.

@Letty,
Hah, Letty! I'm 15/16 irish decent, 1/16 welsh..

This is backed up by the fact that I can't carry a tune (re all italians being able to sing), at the same time I can hear how off key I am.

Them Eyetalian artists all are great. I tried to find a song called Bella Rosa, by Harry Belafonte, but it hasn't made it to youtube. Since it's his birthday, I will still play one by him

well, euro, you missed Caruso, but I like Mama Mia by Domingo.

Osso, well I am quite surprised at that, Thanks for your background.

Today is David Niven's birthday, so first a tribute by the Irishman, Van Morrison.

Now, a brief trailer of Around the World in Eighty Days.

I only recall the theme to the movie:

Around the world I searched for you...

Welcome back, edgar. Will listen to Harry later as I missed your contribution.

@Letty,
Hi Miss Letty, Ed folks.
The Great Caruso was 'great'. The Essence of Italian music. Andrea's Because We Believe wasn't bad either. Razz
Nice tribute to David Niven, Van the Man, always good. I liked Niven, he was always the straight laced nice guy. Loved 'Around the World in 80 Days', the novel and the movie. Poor ol' Passepartout. Smile
Happy Birthday to the "King of Calypso", enjoyed Troubles Ed.
Bruce's tribute to Harry Chapin was nice.

Stones.

@eurocelticyankee,
Niven played a charming con artist, but never a character I could not like.

Thanks Irish and Texas for your comments. I didn't watch the movie at all. That's why I did the trailer on Around the World in Eighty Days.

euro, I need to check out more David Niven movies, and that one by the Stones was great.

Hey, turtle man. I love that Jewish song, Hava Naguila. Danced the hora once myself.

edgar, Ben Colder is so funny. Love that parody on The Man in Black's Ring of Fire.

Here's one by Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show, and for once it's not about "....cover of The Rolling Stones....."

@edgarblythe,
You're right, edgar, and that song was one of them.

Ah, Lena and "the count". Love My Silent Love by her.

Today is Ron Howard's birthday, and I am amazed at how "opie" became such a talent.

Here's a tribute to him.
