Sue Raney (born June 18, 1940) is an American jazz singer. Signed by Capitol Records at the age of 17, her debut album, the Nelson Riddle-produced When Your Lover Has Gone, was released in 1958.[1] Raney begin singing at only four years of age, and encouraged by her mother, began working as a professional before she was a teenager. When she was nearly 14, she joined Jack Carson's Los Angeles-based radio show in 1954, and later worked on television as Ray Anthony's band's main vocalist.[2] After a hiatus in the 1970s, Raney has continued to record sporadically, with her most recent album being a 2006 tribute to Doris Day entitled Heart's Desire.

Her Imperial single "Early Morning Blues And Greens" was well-played on easy-listening stations, peaking at No. 16 on Billboard's MOR chart. Raney is married to former Cubs/Red Sox player Carmen Fanzone.

and here she performs with the Four Freshmen :

here is a great comedian who has provided many laughs - and it's his birthday :

Quote:
Sir Norman Joseph Wisdom,[1] OBE[2] (4 February 1915 – 4 October 2010) was an English actor, comedian and singer-songwriter best known for a series of comedy films produced between 1953 and 1966 featuring his hapless onscreen character Norman Pitkin. These films initially made more money than the James Bond film series.[3] Wisdom gained a celebrity status in lands as far apart as South America, Iran and many Eastern Bloc countries, particularly in Albania, where his films were the only ones by Western actors permitted by Enver Hoxha to be shown.[4] Charlie Chaplin once referred to Wisdom as his "favourite clown".[5]

Wisdom later forged a career on Broadway in New York City and as a television actor, winning critical acclaim for his dramatic role of a dying cancer patient in the television play Going Gently in 1981. It was broadcast on 5 June that year. He toured Australia and South Africa.[3] After the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, a hospice was named in his honour.[4] In 1995 he was given the Freedom of the City of London and of Tirana.[4] The same year he received an OBE.[4] Wisdom was knighted in 2000 and spent much of his later life on the Isle of Man. Some of his later appearances included roles in Last of the Summer Wine and Coronation Street,[4] and he retired from acting at the age of 90 after his health deteriorated.

Good morning, hbg and WA2K radio. edgar, loved your goodnight song by "the jester." I guess horses get tired, too.

I had no idea that she sang with The Four Freshmen. What a great group whom so many later jazz singers imitated.

That funny drugged apple bit gave me a smile for the early morning.

To greet the forth coming day, Les Paul and Mary Ford. Was quite surprised to find out about Mary's background.

@eurocelticyankee,
euroGeorge, Niamh's Horo Johnny was truly beautiful. Love the whistle and the guitar, too. "...her Johnny won't you come home soon..." Reminded me of this one. Had no idea that James Taylor had done it.

Good afternoon. Those were all good songs played this morning. Looking around, I never realized how many artists recorded The World is Waiting For the Sunrise. My favorite version is by Don Gibson.

euroGeorge. That was a great version of the Tennessee Waltz. Thanks for the comments as well.

Welcome back, edgar, and your observations are always appreciated. I recall that one by the "man in black". I think Johnny Depp is making a new movie of John Dillinger.

Here's a group that "...wants to go back to Tennessee.." Maybe it has to do with waltzing.

@Letty,
Always like hearing 'The man in black' Ed, great song. Enjoyed The Brighton Taverners and Flatt & Scruggs too. Johnny Depp made that movie Miss Letty, it was titled Public Enemies . I seen it and thought it was ok. It didn't achieve the Film Noir that the Dillinger story deserves.

Welcome back, Rock. Honey, Let Me Be Your Salty Dog was a good one just as EuroGeorge noted. I guess a salty dog is like a boy friend. It's also a drink.

Thanks for the clarification of John Dillinger as I thought it was a remake.

That song, The Parting Glass by Voice Squad was beautiful, Irish. I love the visuals as well. Just as our edgar, your comments are always appreciated on WA2K radio.

I think most of us know that sailors were called salts and that let me to this one.

@edgarblythe,
Love that one by The Shirelles. I know it, too. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is one of those goodies, edgar, and thanks again for your comments.

Anyone remember Barbara Hershey? Today is her birthday and she starred in the movie Beaches. My favorite from that one.

edgar, That one by Bonnie was great.

Goodnight, dear Euro. David Bowie did that one as well. "Sleep that knits up the raveled sleep of care" Shakespeare. Ah, you're going to miss this one.

Texas, I think that was about Janis Joplin. "...I met a girl who sang the blues and I asked for some happy news, but she just smiled and walked away.." Don McLean."

Another Rose, yawl.
