Good morning, WA2K folks.

Hey, edgar and hbg. I like Freddy Fender as well. Those were great songs by him.

Well, Brit, I don't know Eric Bogle and John Monroe but that song brought back some memories.

Two songs for the morning here.

First, one to match the Tex Mex ones.

Now, Spain.

Wonder if "...the rain in Spain lies mainly in the plain..." Hope the Spanish will blow some our way. Razz

@edgarblythe,
Hurry back, edgar, and thanks for the comments.

Well, Willie says "..mamma, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys..." and Glen sings about rhinestones.

In June 2011, Campbell said he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six months earlier. He added he had been suffering from short-term memory loss for years. He also said he intended to do a farewell tour before retiring from the music industry.

It's called divergent thinking; has nothing to do with Alzheimers. Glen may have developed Bi-Polar disorder.

ehbeth went to glen campbell's farewell concert in toronto last fall - she was quite impressed with his performance - even though she really didn't care for his kind of music earlier !

edgar, The Jester wouldn't play. (not this time anyway). The message was, "an error occurred; try again later.

Ah, well. To err is human; to forgive divine.

hbg, That is one of my favorites by Glen. How wonderful to find out that the zinging in the background was flutes. Yep, he's still on the line.

Here's a birthday girl singing about Elvis, "the eternal flame"

@Letty,
there are several birthdays to celebrete today .
first up is the great Eartha Kitt :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5WVkl_f7_E

Quote:
Eartha Mae Kitt (January 17, 1927 – December 25, 2008[2]) was an American singer, actress, and cabaret star. She was perhaps best known for her highly distinctive singing style and her 1953 hit recordings of "C'est Si Bon" and the enduring Christmas novelty smash "Santa Baby". Orson Welles once called her the "most exciting woman in the world."[3] She took over the role of Catwoman for the third and final season of the 1960s Batman television series, replacing Julie Newmar, who was unavailable due to other commitments.

hbg, I love Ertha Kitt. Yep, It's so good and she's so good. I recall her best for Santa Baby.

Don't know Steve Earl, Ontario, but you are right. He and Emmy are great on that Goodbye song.

Now here's a lady who is still with us, and today is her birthday.

@hamburgboy,
and here is something a little different !

Al Cherney a member of Don Messer's Jubilee Show ( CBC ) performing a quebec fiddle tune :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6TmNUJM0EA

Quote:
Don Messer's Jubilee was a television folk musical variety show produced at station CBHT in Halifax, Nova Scotia and broadcast by CBC Television nationwide from 1957 until 1969.

Taking its name from band leader and fiddler Don Messer, the half-hour weekly program featured Messer and his band "Don Messer and His Islanders", as well as a guest performer. The show followed a consistent format throughout its years, beginning with a tune named "Goin' to the Barndance Tonight", followed by fiddle tunes by Messer, songs from some of his "Islanders" including singers Marg Osburne and Charlie Chamberlain, the featured guest performance, and a closing hymn. It ended with "Till We Meet Again".

they were also featured artists on the ed sullivan show !

@hamburgboy,
here is someone i haven't heard in several years : " Buckwheat Zydeco "

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I415LPMZiI

Quote:
Buckwheat Zydeco is the stage name of Stanley Dural, Jr. (born November 14, 1947), an American accordionist and zydeco musician. He is one of the few zydeco artists to achieve mainstream success. His music group is formally billed as Buckwheat Zydeco and Ils Son Partis Band, but often they perform as merely Buckwheat Zydeco.

The New York Times says, “Stanley ‘Buckwheat’ Dural leads one of the best bands in America. A down-home and high-powered celebration, meaty and muscular with a fine-tuned sense of dynamics…propulsive rhythms, incendiary performances.”[1] USA Today calls him “a zydeco trailblazer.”[2]

Buckwheat Zydeco has performed with a large number of famous musicians from Eric Clapton (with whom Buckwheat also recorded) and U2 to The Boston Pops. The band performed at the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics to a worldwide audience of three billion people. Buckwheat performed for President Clinton twice, celebrating both of his inaugurations. The band has appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, CNN, The Today Show, MTV, NBC News, CBS Morning News, National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition.

euroGeorge, you sleep well. Loved both of those songs, especially the theme from the movie Stardust. Looks intriguing.

hbg, Don't know all of the songs you played this evening, but I particular enjoyed Al Chenny's the fiddle player.

Somehow, folks, Stardust the movie reminded me of Wagner. I'll bet hbg knows this one.

The legend of Tristan and Iseult is an influential romance and tragedy, retold in numerous sources with as many variations. The tragic story is of the adulterous love between the Cornish knight Tristan (Tristram) and the Irish princess Iseult (Isolde, Yseult, etc.). The narrative predates and most likely influenced the Arthurian romance of Lancelot and Guinevere, and has had a substantial impact on Western art, the idea of romantic love and literature since it first appeared in the 12th century. While the details of the story differ from one author to another, the overall plot structure remains much the same.
