edgar, you're right about Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. Many folks have done that one. Thanks for your comment.

Loved your tribute to Walt Whitman by Weill. I was thinking of The Dead Poet's Society, too.

Brit, As I mentioned earlier, the patois of wonderful languages is fading, but you just restored it. The Streets Dry Your Eyes was a marvelous example.

Continuing with Walt Whitman, Here's a choral group doing one of his poems. So many were done after Abraham Lincoln's assassination.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma_mblvIBBw&feature=related

One of my favorite verses of the poem:

O powerful western fallen star!
O shades of night -- O moody, tearful night!
O great star disappear'd -- O the black murk that hides the star!
O cruel hands that hold me powerless -- O helpless soul of me!
O harsh surrounding cloud that will not free my soul.

@edgarblythe,
Well, Texas, you sent me searching again.

Leticia ("Tish") Hinojosa (born December 6, 1955, San Antonio, Texas) is a folksinger recording in both Spanish and English. Hinojosa was the youngest of 13 children. Hinojosa's parents were Mexican immigrants. Hinojosa has charted twice on the Billboard country charts and has recorded several albums, primarily for Rounder Records.

Her 1992 album Culture Swing won the NAIRD Indie Folk Album of the Year.

Thanks for your comment, and By the Rio Grande was great. I love Hispanic music.

Your song reminded of this oldie that, once again, many people have done.

@Barry The Mod,
You stay warm, too, Brit.

I am stunned that John Denver did that delightful song. Christmas Like a Lullaby was fantastic, and we'll dedicate that one to all of our Aussie friends.

Saying goodnight with a memory.

I think this may be Manhattan Transfer doing the lovely rose song.

i thought i might present to you the swedish christmas tradition on honouring Santa Lucia :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2-Q_ObdE-4&feature=related

Quote:
In Sweden, Estonia, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, Lucy (called Lucia) is venerated on December 13 in a ceremony where a girl (some boys have been voted as Lucy) is elected to portray Lucia. Wearing a white gown with a red sash and a crown of candles on her head, she walks at the head of a procession of women, each holding a candle. The candles symbolize the fire that refused to take St. Lucia's life when she was sentenced to be burned. The women sing a Lucia song while entering the room, to the melody of the traditional Neapolitan song Santa Lucia; the Italian lyrics describe the view from Santa Lucia in Naples, the various Scandinavian lyrics are fashioned for the occasion, describing the light with which Lucia overcomes the darkness. Each Scandinavian country has lyrics in their native tongues. After finishing this song, the procession sings Christmas carols or more songs about Lucia. A similar version occurs in Scandinavian communities and churches in the Island

as a snack a LUCIA bun ( flavoured with saffron ) will be served - note that the bun is shaped like the letter S .

@Letty,
today i am continuing my christmas travelogue and visiting russia -
come along for a sleighride

Quote:
Russia
As in other Eastern Orthodox countries, Christmas is celebrated on January 7. Unlike its Western counterparts, Christmas is mainly a religious event in Russia. On Christmas Eve (6 January), there are several long services, including the Royal Hours and Vespers combined with the Divine Liturgy. The family will then return home for the traditional Chrismas Eve "Holy Supper", which consists of 12 dishes, one to honor each of the Twelve Apostles. Devout families will then return to church for the "всеночная" All Night Vigil. Then again, on Christmas Morning, for the "заутренняя" Divine Liturgy of the Nativity. The tradition of celebrating Christmas has been revived since 1992, after decades of suppression by the Communist government. Christmas is now a national holiday in Russia, as part of the ten-day holiday at the start of every new year. While Christmas is increasingly important, many Russians continue to focus on the New Year's celebration.

I been listening to Charlie Rich since 1958, when he and Jerry Lee Lewis were working together at Sun Records. He seemed to have it together, until he reached country super star status. Then he gradually went to pieces.
Good song by Andrea.

hbg, That Russian Carol I know, but can't think of the name of the original melody. Fabulous, Ontario, and the information was heart warming. Perhaps you'll know

edgar, Thanks again for your comments, and I know that song, buddy. Need to check and see if Doris Day is still with us.

Well, I've been here, so I thought that I would do a carol concerning it

@edgarblythe,
Yes, edgar, That was a bit different. Just a reminder to myself, I guess

I love Joan Collins' Someday Soon.

How about a bit of quiet jazz for the evening. Here are Stan Getz and Bill Evans.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl6aEZ47AVs&feature=related

The lyrics.

Love is funny or it's sad
Or it's quiet or it's mad
It's a good thing or it's bad
But beautiful

Beautiful to take a chance and if you fall, you fall
And I'm thinking I wouldn't mind at all

Love is tearful or it's gay
It's a problem or it's play
It's a heartache either way
But beautiful

And I'm thinking if you were mine, I'd never let you go

And that would be but beautiful, I know.

Ah, I miss Ellinas, edgar. The Greeks have a word for it? How about a song for it and it will be my goodnight song. (nope, didn't know the one you played)

You will find the English version of this wonderful song at the bottom of the page.
