@Letty,
letty ,
here is an old dutch custom ( not quite PC any more , but the kids love it ) .
it's the arrival of SINTER CLAAS in mid-november ( santa claus ) . he is believed to come by boat from spain - accompanied by several BLACK PIETERS ( and therefor not quite PC ) .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8YA8dXocmg&feature=related

in germany ST. NICHOLAS usually visits during the night 0f december 6 and leaves a small present in brightly polished shoes that are left by the children on the window-sill the night befor .

       http://www.zionbaltimore.org/christmas_st_nick.jpg

Quote:
In Germany, Nikolaus is usually celebrated on a small scale. Many children put a boot called Nikolaus-Stiefel (Nikolaus boot) outside the front door on the night of 5 December. St. Nicholas fills the boot with gifts and sweets overnight, and at the same time checks up on the children to see if they were good, polite and helpful the last year. If they were not, they will have a tree branch (Rute) in their boots instead. Sometimes a disguised Nikolaus also visits the children at school or in their homes and asks them if they have been good (sometimes ostensibly checking his golden book for their record), handing out presents on a per-behavior basis.

euroGeorge, Welcome back. Didn't see that movie, but the theme was lovely.

hbg, I loved that boat song with those lovely kids watching and everyone waving and having a good time waiting for Santa Claus. How perfectly delightful, and no one is worried about being politically correct here. We are honest and loving. Thanks for the introduction. Yep, Jolly Old St. Nicholas bend your ear this way. Razz

Our Irishman's song reminded me of this one from "old blue eyes"

@Barry The Mod,
Welcome back, Brit. Don't know Night Moves by Bob Seger. Really liked it, however.

Let's hope you don't run into Boris during the night. Today's his birthday, so here is a tribute by Queen.

@Barry The Mod,
Love that song by Jimmy Cliff, Brit, especially those congo type drums. Did I hear that group singing, How Dry I Am. Sorry about your clock problems.

Here's one by Bob Marley concerning some of this rum.

Lots of good music since I checked in last.
Here is one of the songs the radio incessantly played when Ruby and the Romantics' Our Day Will Come was popular.

70 Brit. I don't drink anything now, except water. Drinking Rum and Coca Cola sounds awful to me.

edgar, Love Skeeter Davis' End of the World.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with Boris and a Moonlight Cocktail.

First ,Boris.

@edgarblythe,
I love Bless This House by Perry, edgar. I noticed that it was his last concert in Ireland. He sounds as good as he did when he was younger. Thanks, Texas.

Now Ed Ames tells it the way it should be.
