@Barry The Mod,
Great song, Brit, and you sent me searching again.

Spyro Gyra is an American jazz fusion band that was originally formed in the mid-1970s in Buffalo, New York, USA. With over 25 albums released and 10 million copies sold, they are among the most prolific as well as commercially successful groups of the genre. Among their most successful hit singles are "Shaker Song" and "Morning Dance", which received significant play on popular music radio stations, and are still frequently heard nearly 30 years later on jazz and easy listening stations. Many of their songs have also been played during The Weather Channel's Local on the 8s forecast segments.

Their music, which has been influential in the development of smooth jazz, combines jazz with elements of R&B, funk and pop music. Although generally considered to be more "jazz" than "smooth", Spyro Gyra has been praised for their skilled instrumentalists and for their live performances, which average nearly 100 per year.

With the exception of alto saxophonist, songwriter and founding bandleader Jay Beckenstein as well as keyboardist Tom Schuman, the personnel has changed somewhat over time, as well as between the studio and the live stage.

Another great Jazz lady.

@Barry The Mod,
Thomas Quasthoff was fabulous, Brit. What a great and deep voice he has. Johnny Mercer would be thrilled to hear him do that arrangement. Speaking of which.

Skylark by Johnny.

@Barry The Mod,
Fantastic, Brit. I love that Latin beat, and Poncho plays great bongos. Strange, there used to be a Greek guy named Ellinas on A2K. and I just saw an old thread where he was touting soccer/football. Miss him.

This one's for you, buddy.

@Rockhead,
Welcome back, Rock. I love that one, and as you know it's taken from Bach's Sleepers Awake.

I think many of our listeners missed these two great songs, so I'm going to play them again via request.

First, The Rat Pack.

Had no idea that Johnny Carson could sing.

Now, once again, Charlie Rich.

@wmwcjr,
wm, You played one that gave me a reminder. first some info on the group.

The Left Banke is an American baroque pop band that formed in New York City in 1965 and disbanded in 1969. They are best remembered for their two U.S. hit singles, "Walk Away Renée" and "Pretty Ballerina". The band often utilized what the music press referred to as "baroque" string arrangements, which led to their music being variously termed as "Bach-rock", "baroque rock" or "baroque 'n' roll". The band's harmonies borrowed from contemporaries such as The Beatles, The Zombies and other British Invasion groups. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed "Walk Away Renée" at #220 in its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All time. That song was fabulous as well as the visuals.

Remembering satt fs, with that fantastic song by Kyu Sakamoto. Thanks again.

Now one to match the Bach-Rock

Hey, Irish. Thanks for your comments and that music was haunting, so you sent me searching and I found the trailer.

@eurocelticyankee,
Yes - I was wondering, are Ryuichi and Kyu the same person? related? same city? no connection? I had a friend last named Sakamoto once, eons ago, which is neither here nor there, but I also had a friend whose last name was Fukushima, even earlier than I knew the Sakamoto friend. I guess this sounds beyond stupid, but I'd not fully registered until recently the land connections that might happen represented by last names. I know better - many historically famous painters, at least from Italy, are known by their town names. But it didn't click in my brain. I say this not knowing if Sakamoto as a name relates to place.

@eurocelticyankee,
Euro - I need to nab you on this - the Furey's song Scarlet Ribbons that you linked recently, dear to me - who is the singer? Finbar or Davey Arthur? I've been through a lot of videos trying to figure it out and one comment says it's Finbar and others remark re Davey.

We got into this once before, when I commented, I think on the same video, and you mistook my comment for the singer before that, and then there was a certain kettle of a2k hot potato soup and I never found out.

Let's say I'm curious

Good afternoon. There was a lot of good music played here today. Too much to individually comment on. The songs that stand out best in my mind are by Charlie Rich and Kyu Sakamoto, but it all is good.

@ossobuco,
No Osso I believe there is no connection between Ryuichi and Kyu.
There are two villages in Japan named Sakamoto but whether there
is any connection, I don't know.
