@Letty,
Hi Miss Letty, yes I've seen "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence", it's
an ok movie, did you know that Ryƻichi Sakamoto & David Bowie
play the two main characters in the film.
In truth I remember it most for the soundtrack.

Here's David singing Life on Mars.

Hi WM, I'm glad you enjoyed Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody, beautiful music.
If you get the chance and like to watch a movie I'd certainly recommend
"Somewhere in Time" a great film and a wonderful soundtrack.

Thanks for the recommendation. Smile I just checked the Wikipedia article on the movie. Somewhere in Time (1980) is an adaptation of the novel Bid Time Return (1975) by Richard Matheson, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie.

http://lastheplace.com/images/article-images/1NEW2007WRITERS/1Michele/RichardMatheson/Richard-Matheson-author.jpg

Matheson was one of the leading scriptwriters for the original TV series The Twilight Zone, which was hosted by Rod Serling.

Well, this is talk radio, too, but I'm afraid everyone may be talking at
cross porpoises. Razz

suggestion for our great contributors. Try and listen to the one before you play another song.

edgar, you know how I like Hank Williams.

euro, I realized after viewing the trailer who the main characters were, and just as you, I am more caught up in the movie score than the plot. Thanks again for that David Bowie song. Really like that guy. I enjoyed him as The Goblin King, too.

wm, Harper Valley PTA is a good one. Glad that you found the info on Somewhere in Time.

Now, back to the music. Thinking of that pug nosed Greek again, so, here is a great song by a jazz artist. They claim he's doing BeBop but he's not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBc_q0wOKec

And the lyrics.

A country dance was being held in a garden
I felt a bump and heard an "Oh, beg your pardon"
Suddenly I saw - polka dots and moonbeams
All around a pug-nosed dream
The music started, and was I the perplexed one
I held my breathe, and said "May I have the next one?"
In my frightened arms - polka dots and moonbeams
Sparkled on a pug-nosed dream

There were questions in the eyes of other dancers
As we floated over the floor
There were questions but my heart knew all the answers
And perhaps a few things more

Now in a cottage, built of lilacs and laughter
I know the meaning, of the words: "ever after"
And I'll always see polka dots and moonbeams
When I kiss my pug-nosed dream

@hamburgboy,
and here " ein lied ohne worte "

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Nq8EzWUocc

Quote:
Songs Without Words (Lieder ohne Worte) is a series of short, lyrical piano pieces by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn
................................................................................................................
Felix Mendelssohn was born on 3 February 1809, in Hamburg, at the time an independent city-state, [n 2] in the same house where, a year later, the dedicatee and first performer of his Violin Concerto, Ferdinand David, was to be born. Mendelssohn's father was the banker Abraham Mendelssohn, the son of the German Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. His mother was Lea Salomon, a member of the Itzig family and the sister of Jakob Salomon Bartholdy.[1] Mendelssohn was the second of four children; his older sister Fanny also displayed exceptional and precocious musical talent.

@wmwcjr,
You're welcome WM, the fact that Richard Matheson was a
scriptwriter for "The Twilight Zone" makes sense, as "Somewhere
in Time" definitely had a Twilight Zone quality to it. I looked him
up and what a revelation he is. He has penned some great stories.

Anywho Razz I'll say Good Night.

One for the road.

hbg, sorry polka dots was barred. Check it out sometimes.

That video of The Crooked Picture was funny. Mendelson's Lorit was beautiful. Love the cello, Ontario.

Goodnight euro. Now we are free by Lisa was lovely.

jcboy, That is one of my favorites by Bette. Welcome back to you as well.

Time for me to say goodnight and I think that I shall do so with a song without words.

How could we have overlooked Simon and Garfunkel? Some of their songs are nothing less than poetry set to music.

Good (early Mr. Green ) morning! Smile

Peter Gabriel -- "Solsbury Hill" (1977)

I prefer studio recordings of pop songs over concert performances, but I must make an exception to this one. I was quite taken by the video when I watched it. Gabriel's performance amazed me. (Please watch it. You'll see why.) So, I had to post this video as well.
