@edgarblythe,
I do love Buffy Ed, I notice she has a concert on the 17th of SEP in
the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM.
That's not a million miles from you Ed, is it. Just thought you might
like to know, go on treat yourself. Wink

@eurocelticyankee,
That could as easily be a million miles, euro. I haven't any travel money these days. I could get as far as Dallas and Austin this winter, but that's the extent of it.

@edgarblythe,
That's a real pity Ed, going to concerts is one of my last real
treats these days and I'd imagine that lady gives one fine concert.

@eurocelticyankee,
Well, I hate that our edgar can no longer travel.

euro, now I remember Charlotte. That song CarrickFergus was par excellence. I recall it because of the Irish whistle. Thanks for your reminder and for yours and Texas' comments.

Bad news.

Ocracoke Island, a tiny piece of land in North Carolina's Outer Banks, was evacuated starting early Wednesday in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Irene.

Mandatory evacuations by ferry began at 5:30 a.m. on the 16-mile-long barrier island, home to about 800 permanent residents and healthy influx of tourists. The island is a test of evacuation procedures as the U.S. east coast prepares for its first major hurricane in seven years.

I've been there and even wrote a poem called The Wild Ponies of Ocracoke. It's a lovely and we once camped there.

This is a tribute to those ponies and concern with what we're doing to our earth.

@Letty,
Thank you, Letty, for that tribute to Ustinov tape. That's a saver to savor. I loved him too..
My favorite bit was when he narrated a tv program, in the Discovery Channel's series on Cities, on Leningrad. I was knocked out by him just talking away in person. (That was such a great series. I suppose I should try to look it up again, haven't found it before - Burgess on Rome, Greer on Sydney, Gould on Toronto...)

@ossobuco,
Found it. Then there was thunder and lightning (still no rain..) and lost it. And found it again. So, it was a CBC (canadian) tv series with a terrific set of narrators, almost hard to believe terrific. Apparently not available for viewing..

(back to listening..
JPB's Handel link had me listening to that and then Largo, which I've long loved.)

@jcboy,
Loved Love Overboard by Gladys and the Pips..

not, um, convinced on Michael Buble. But I'm the crabby one here.

I'm always the slow one to catch up on the music here. Fun though.

Goodnight, dear Irishman. Thanks again for the comments. Couldn't get Oasis to work, but it reminded me of Midnight at the Oasis.

Osso, Check out Ustinov's ethnicity sometimes. Loved him as Nero. Yes, Largo is wonderful.

jcboy, I really like Michael Buble and his song You Know How I Feel.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with The Lettermen.

A quiz for the radio listeners this morning. Can anyone identify the song?
The winner will be the one who can sing it, complete with the odd little key change in line 2!

It goes something like

She made a little sign and then she gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna mix it up right here in the sink"
It smelt like turpentine, and looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I shut my eyes: I took a drink...

Plenty in the British quality press about the American poets laureate:

@McTag,
Good Morning all, nice song by the Lettermen Miss Letty.
Nice one too by Bobby Darin, really cute video.

Mr McTag, sad to hear about Jerry Lieber, he and Mike Stoller of course
wrote your song "Love Potion NO 9".
I've read it was first performed by The Clovers, but these are the guys I most
associate the song with......

Love your goodnight song, edgar, because I played that one when I sent a baby photo of my daughter to her. Thanks for another memory, Texas.

Irish, thanks again for your comment.

How about Haydn this early morning.

Now a surprise by him.

Papa Haydn's dead and gone,
But his music lingers on.
When his heart was full of bliss,
He played jolly tunes like this.

Good morning, folks. I had done a thread about Jerry Leiber's passing and his songs, but got little response, so gave it up. The more I dug into his work, the more I was surprised at the range and depth of material. Well, I will be back in the afternoon. See ya then on the radio.

@Letty,
Two nice pieces from Haydn Miss Letty.
Ed I missed that thread, I didn't even know he'd died.

Sticking with classical, a concert I would LOVE to go to is the
New years concert from Vienna Austria, some day maybe.
I watch it every year on tv, have the cd's, dvd's, a wonderful event.
It's actually quite reasonably priced .... !!I'm going Razz

Celebrate New Year's Eve in the historical Kursalon.
A Gala Dinner ( 4 courses) starts at 8 pm.
An aperitif, corresponding wines, soft drinks and espresso coffee are included.
A Strauss & Mozart Concert takes place between 10.30 - 11.40 pm
followed by: musical fireworks, dance music & party, all for €300 or so.

Anyhow back to the music, Wink
