Okay, fair enough. It's just that ABBA were the biggest-selling pop group in Europe and beyond for about ten years, and Waterloo was their breakthrough song.
Not to mention the stage show.
And the numerous revivals and re-issues.
And the film.
So I was a tad surprised, no disrespect.

Hurry back, Brit. Loved that Graceland melody.

edgar. I am certain that you didn't intend to malign our WA2K radio. I recall your having told me that Mr. Bojangles was not about Bill Robinson. Love to learn. Hey, Texas, you forgot to check out Ann Blythe's birthday tribute. Hurry back, buddy. We also agree that there was something here for everybody as well as your Songs That Tell Stories and the Oddities and Humor forum.

There are lots of performers that I have been introduced to here.

McTag, I guess it's not what we say, it's how we say it. I'm certain that you meant no disrespect.

Here's a birthday gal and she is singing with a great guy.

Happy birthday, Angela.

No offense taken. Before I became involved with other music lovers on the computer I had quit listening to the radio, concentrating just on the recorded music I own copies of. Anything newer than the early 70s was not on the playlist. I have not changed much, but I am willing to hear some of what it is people like these days.

I just got in from work. Couldn't check on Ann earlier. I think I watched Peabody and the Mermaid about four times.

@edgarblythe,

I can recognise that. For me, pop music stopped about 1973. I know loads about it dated before that, and next to diddly thereafter.

@edgarblythe,
Well, then, edgar"..all's right with the world.." Robert Browning's Pippa Passes.

Love that funny Drummer and the Cook. Never heard that one by Harry. Loved the way he rolled those "r's"

Here's one that I recall and I think it might have to do with my mom. The original was by Bob Nolan.

Bob Nolan (April 13, 1908 – June 16, 1980) was a Canadian-born American singer, songwriter, and actor. He was a founding member of the Sons of the Pioneers, and composer of numerous Country music and Western music songs, including the standards "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds." He is generally regarded as one of the finest Western songwriters of all time. As an actor and singer he appeared in scores of Western films.

Marty sings this version.

I admire the way Marty moved from genre to genre. Here he is again.

@edgarblythe,
My word, edgar, that Hawaiian song by Marty was fantastic. I especially enjoyed his falsetto. That man could sing anything.

Here's one version of I'm an Old Cowhand by the king of the cowboys, but I'm including the lyrics because I just found out Johnny Mercer wrote them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RV1yeJPgUU&feature=related

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
But my legs ain't bowed and my cheeks ain't tanned.
I'm a cowboy who never saw a cow,
Never roped a steer 'cause I don't know how,
An' I sure ain't fixin' to start in now.
Yippie yi yo kiyay, yippie yi yo kiyay.

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande
And I learned to ride 'fore I learned to stand.
I'm a ridin' fool who is up to date,
I know every trail in the Lone Star State,
'Cause I ride the range in a Ford V 8.
Yippie yi yo kiyay, yippie yi yo kiyay.

We're old cowhands from the Rio Grande
And we come to town just to hear the band.
We know all the songs that the cowboys know,
'Bout the Big Corral where the dogies go,
'Cause we learned them all on the radio
Yippie yi yo kiyay, yippie yi yo kiyay.

@Letty,
I know and love all those songs by Bob Nolan, Roy Rogers and the rest of the Pioneers. Here are the Andrews Sisters and Bing Crosby with another "cowboy" song.

@betty v boop,
What a nice surprise to have you back. I wish I could visit your site, but it's impossible right now.

I used to have a fishing buddy who called me Betty Boop and when I tried to locate the song that she is famous for singing, I found that Marilyn Monroe did it.

Perhaps if you could give us a link to your song here.

edgar, I love that one by "the crooner". Don't fence Me In was a great one.

@jcboy,
Wow! jcboy. That Wicked Game by Chris was great. It seems that smoking hasn't hurt his voice a bit. Strange the people we meet on the beach. Thanks, for that wonderful surprise.

Today is Madonna's birthday. Love this Dancing Queen by ABBA.

ah, Ebb Tide by Roy Hamilton was great, edgar, and thanks again for your comments.

Lady Day's What a Little Moonlight Can Do is wonderful

jcboy. Love Moon River although I never saw the movie Breakfast At Tiffany's. I love it because Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics and Henry Mancini the music.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with Jan Peerce. Another song that I know and don't know why I know it.

Goodnight to you all. The world is getting better with music, methinks.

From Letty with love
