I was a huge fan of Freddie Prinze, in the day.
Freddie Mercury is the sort of artist it depends what he is doing how much I appreciate him. I like the music in the tribute video.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comments, edgar Leonard Cohen never ceases to amaze me. Those lyrics were so beautiful, that I feel that they should also be observed as a poem.

Trav'ling lady, stay awhile
until the night is over.
I'm just a station on your way,
I know I'm not your lover.
Well I lived with a child of snow
when I was a soldier,
and I fought every man for her
until the nights grew colder.

She used to wear her hair like you
except when she was sleeping,
and then she'd weave it on a loom
of smoke and gold and breathing.

And why are you so quiet now
standing there in the doorway?
You chose your journey long before
you came upon this highway.

Trav'ling lady stay awhile
until the night is over.
I'm just a station on your way,
I know I'm not your lover.

Today is Kris' birthday, and he quotes William Blake at the end of this song.

A goodly number of L Cohen's songs were originally published in poetry books, before he became a recording artist, letty. He was an award winning poet in Canada, early on.

Kris is a man of social conscience and great artistry. I like him very much.

Good Evening folks,
Enjoyed listening to Ed's two Dons, especially the Don Gibson
track, that was brilliant, it was like listening to Elvis & Roy Orbison
spliced. Leonard Cohen was great, of course. First time hearing John
Gary, he did a nice job on Yesterday.
Your two Freddie's were great Miss Letty, particularly liked the tribute
to Freddie Mercury, I seen Queen at Wembley and feel lucky to have
done so. Happy birthday to Kris, he's in a new movie called "Provinces Of Night"
it looks like a good movie, I'm sure I'll watch it soon enough.

Found this piece, I think it's brilliant, but I would as I love the movie it's
from and the composer, the Italian maestro Ennio Morricone.

edgar, John Gary is excellent doing Yesterday. Thanks again for your comment.
(I knew that about Leonard; you informed me some time back)
euroGeorge, You, too, have great insight and appreciation. That theme behind the Clint Eastwood movie was superb. Here's another of my favorites by the man. Thanks for your observations as well.

The music from Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns is inspired.

Glen Campbell is living with Alzheimer's disease, he has revealed in an interview with People magazine. Though Campbell was diagnosed six months ago, the 75-year-old "Rhinestone Cowboy" singer, who hosted The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS from 1969 to '72, is just going public now in advance of his upcoming farewell tour...

For some unknown reason, edgar and EuroGeorge, I'm having trouble with certain phases of YouTube.

I know Duane Eddy, edgar, and the background music was fine. I just couldn't hear him sing.

Same with Wings' Band on the Run. I need to hire an engineer to come into our wee studio and find out if it's the signal or volume control.

The news about Glen is very disconcerting. Love that guy. I recall he had a part in John Wayne's True Grit. It's the only academy award "the pilgrim" ever won. He decided that he should have worn that eye patch more often.

Here's one of my favorites by Glen, but first a little explanation.

Galveston information

This was written by songwriter Jimmy Webb, who also wrote Campbell's hits "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Wichita Lineman." Webb also wrote "MacArthur Park," which was a hit for both Richard Harris and Donna Summer, and "Up-Up and Away," which was recorded by The 5th Dimension.
Galveston is a city on the coast of Texas that attracts lots of hurricanes. Webb was on a beach in Galveston when he wrote this. He made up the story about a soldier in the Spanish-American war and the girl he left behind.

The Vietnam War was going on when Campbell released this. It was considered an antiwar song.
This made the CMT Top Ten list of all-time great country music songs.

euroGeorge, I think edgar and I have discussed this before

@Letty,
Duane Eddy was not a singer, letty. There was no vocal on the recording.

I feel the same way about Glenn Campbell, letty. I think Wichita Lineman is about my favorite by him. Galveston is great also.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the info on Duane, edgar. Still having some sound problems, however.

Loved that one by Sir Paul. Don't know it, but No More Lonely Nights is great.

Here's an answer to his from the BeeGees.

@edgarblythe,
Great one by Ray, edgar. Don't get around much any more either.

Inspired by our Brit, I searched and searched for Richard Burton as Edwin Booth, but all I could find was this:

"Prince of Players" was a showcase for Richard Burton. In 1955, when this film was released, he was young, handsome, and extremely romantic looking. Classically trained, he possessed, as he always did, a magnificent voice and a great talent. To hear his Shakespearean recitation in this film is a real treat, and there is a lot of it, including Hamlet, Richard III, and Romeo & Juliet. Sadly, Burton came from a poor Welsh family and never got over it. In pursuing movie money, he took roles in mediocre films and did very little stage work, though he shined in "Camelot" and "Equus." His last Broadway appearance, shortly before his death, was a disastrous "Private Lives" with his ex-wife Elizabeth Taylor. His fans, however, choose to remember this sweet and charming person as a glorious Prince Hal in Henry IV and as Hamlet. How wonderful that film audiences can hear his gifts forever in "Prince of Players."

All that I can recall is him sitting on the stage as the audience threw things at him. He didn't bat an eye. Finally some one in the balcony stood up and applauded.

Going to say goodnight with Glen. This is one of my favorites and I later discovered that the "zinging" was flutes.

Good to have London and Dublin with us today.

From Letty with love to everyone

As I noted before, that is my favorite Glenn song. Another one is By the Time I get to Phoenix. I am playing it by Frank Sinatra.
