I liked Marilyn in The Seven Year Itch

Here is a follow up to my earlier post, where I mentioned there was just one reason I got out of bed today.

At 76, after powering back on the music scene with new albums and a worldwide tour, Leonard Cohen may be better known for his music these days, but the Canadian singer started out first as a writer, and only later set his poems up against a backdrop of jazz music. It’s his literary work that Spain recognized Wednesday, awarding him the Prince of Asturias literature award for his work of “immutable merit,” the jury said.

According to the AFP, the jury recognized “his creation of emotional imagery in which poetry and music are fused in an oeuvre of immutable merit... The passing of time, sentimental relationships, the mystical traditions of the East and the West and life sung as an unending ballad make up a body of work associated with certain moments of decisive change at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century.”

@edgarblythe,
Thanks, edgar, for that info on Leonard. "...the creation of emotional energy..." Love that line.

Elvis did Money Honey as well, Texas. Liked your version.

I recall The Misfits. Was Marilyn in that one? need to check that out.

ABBA sings about money, now.

The MIsfits is the one where Marilyn goes with Clark Gable as he rounds up wild horses for the slaughterhouse. She struggles with him, trying to save one of the horses that she takes a fancy to.

@edgarblythe,
Great one by Pearl, edgar. Always liked that lady.

Thanks for the info on The Misfits. Now I recall it was a jinxed movie.

The Misfits is a 1961 American drama film written by Arthur Miller, directed by John Huston, and starring Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter, and Eli Wallach. It was the final film appearance for both Gable and Monroe. It was not a commercial success at the time of its release, but it garnered critical respect for its script and performances.

Another song about money, yawl.

I started to watch Fiddler on the Roof a second time a few months back. But it is so long, especially with all the commercials, I gave it up. But I did love it the first time and the music is great.

More money

@edgarblythe,
Great one by the Fab Four, edgar. Never heard You Never Give Me your Money. Hmmm, didn't they also say "..money can't buy me love.."? Or was that some other rich man.

Fiddler on the Roof was great.

Here's a jazz version that looks at the world with rose colored glasses, buddy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPdH6cFqndU&feature=related

The lyrics.

The moon belongs to everyone
The best things in life they're free
Stars belong to everyone
They cling there for you and for me

Flowers in spring
The robins that sings
The sunbeams that shine
They're yours and they're mine
Love can come to everyone
Best things in life
They're free

Sam Cooke also did that one.

@edgarblythe,
Love that one by The Man in Black, edgar.

Cotton Needs a Pickin’

Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
I’m gonna pick all over this field.

Planted this cotton in April
On the full of the moon
We’ve had a hot, dry summer
And that’s why it opened so soon. Oh!

Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
Cotton needs a pickin’ so bad
I’m gonna pick all over this field.

Razz

Time for me to say goodnight, so how about a June night.

If the weatherman is right I might take a trip to the coast on the National Express (that's the Brit version of Greyhound)....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcmM28zd0vU
The Divine Comedy - National Express.

See if you can spot my favorite line in the lyrics

Take the National Express when your life's in a mess
It'll make you smile
All human life is here
From the feeble old dear to the screaming child
From the student who knows that to have one of those
Would be suicide
To the family man
Manhandling the pram with paternal pride

And everybody sings "ba ba ba da..."
We're going where the air is free

On the National Express there's a jolly hostess
Selling crisps and tea
She'll provide you with drinks and theatrical winks
For a sky-high fee
Mini-Skirts were in style when she danced down the aisle
Back in '63 (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
But it's hard to get by when your arse is the size of a small country ;-)

And everybody sings "ba ba ba da..."
We're going where the air is free

Tomorrow belongs to me
When you're sad and feeling blue
With nothing better to do
Don't just sit there feeling stressed
Take a trip on the National Express

Bill Wyman - Je Suis Un Rockstar.

Said she come from Rio, lived on a mountain.
I met her in Trafalgar Square, she was sitting in the fountain.
She took off her hat and she had lovely hair.
Said was a disco dancer at the Coco Cabana there.
South American Lady, you've got that crazy beat.
Brazilian beauty with the flashing feet.
We danced to the music at the Mardi Gras.
Then jumped on the Concorde, you're so lah di dah.

...........Si si ............si si ............si si .............si si

Took her to a disco in Battersea.
I asked her to dance and then she danced with me.
And then I took a chance. Come home with me today.
I live in France. We can get there BEA.

Je suis un rock star Je avais un residence
Je habiter la A la South of France
Voulez vous Partir with me
And come and rester la with me in France.

But BEA's on strike, there's no planes flying.
I can rent a motorbike, at least I'm trying.
We could go on the hovercraft across the water.
They'll think I'm your dad and you're my daughter.

Je suis un rock star Je avais un residence
Je habiter la A la South of France
Voulez vous Partir with me
And come and rester la with me in France.
Je suis un rock star Je avais un residence
Je habiter la A la South of France
Voulez vous Partir with me
And come and rester la with me in France.
Je suis un rock star Je avais un residence
Je habiter la A la South of France
Voulez vous Partir with me

Good morning from here in Florida, WA2K folks.

edgar, loved your goodnight song, Harry was great on Jump Down Spin Around Pick a Bale of Cotton. The visuals were awesome as well. So Rare was great too. (loved the visuals on Harry's song)

Try to keep out of that sun today, buddy.

Wow, Brit. Loved all of your songs. Michael Franti and Spearhead's Sound of Sunshine plus Bill Wyman's I Am a Rock Star, and naturally The Divine Comedy's National Express. (your favorite line was the naughty one?)

Irish, Welcome back. Let's Dance by Paula Flynn fantastic. Don't you work too hard.

Let's all "carpe diem", and I think that we can do so with this one, yawl.

More synchronicity, folks.

Inspired by our edgar, I went searching for the "lost generation" and found this.

The Lost Generation, does not refer to all of the expatriate artists who lived in Paris after World War I. It clearly, as is seen from the original quote as reported by Hemingway, refers to his generation, those who were members of the age classes called to duty in the "Great War." This generation included distinguished artists such as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot, John Dos Passos, Waldo Peirce, Alan Seeger, and, Erich Maria Remarque and Ezra Pound. It has alternately been used to describe the generation which participated in the Cultural Revolution in China.

Woody Allen again.
