An appreciation of 2 guys who have written some great songs.Songwriters-producers and record label owners Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff made Philadelphia the soul capitol in the 1970s. Gamble and Huffs label Philadelphia International had a stable of artists that included the OJays, McFadden & Whitehead, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Lou Rawls and Dee Dee Sharp. Their records featured the duos trademark sound: lush string orchestrations, a powerful rhythm section and a disco beat. They also worked with Dusty Springfield, Wilson Pickett, and Jerry Butler among others. In 1990, Gamble and Huff won a Grammy for best R&B song, awarded for Simply Reds cover of the Blue Notes 1972 hit If You Dont Know Me By Know. And in 1999, they won the Grammy Trustees Award.

Kicking off with Patti LaBelle...

Good morning WA2K folks.

What a fantastic day on WA2K was yesterday. Wish that I could acknowledge each contribution, but it's almost impossible.

Hey, Brit. Loved Al's Take Me Down to the River.

edgar, My word, you have to work seven days a week?

Two songs for Sunday.

First a birthday guy and we have the lyrics to his piano piece.

Oh, you can kiss me on a Monday a Monday a Monday
is very very good
Or you can kiss me on a Tuesday a Tuesday a Tuesday
in fact I wish you would
Or you can kiss me on a Wednesday a Thursday a
Friday and Saturday is best
But never ever on a Sunday a Sunday a Sunday
cause that's my day of rest

Most anyday you can be my guest
Anyday you say but my day of rest
Just name the day that you like the best
Only stay away on my day of rest

Oh, you can kiss me on a cool day a hot day a wet day
which ever one you choose
Or try to kiss me on a grey day a May day a pay day
and see if I refuse

And if you make it on a bleake day a freak day or a week day
Well you can be my guest
But never ever on a Sunday a Sunday the one day
I need a little rest
Oh, you can kiss me on a week day a week day a week day
the day to be my guest

Now, another surprise yawl.

Never on a Sunday is a nice one, letty.
The Big Bopper only had one album, which I collected, so I know his Preacher and the Bear.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for keeping us on the air, edgar, and for your comments.

Love that version of I Apologize by Timi. I had forgotten about that lovely lady.

Today is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's birthday, so here is a tribute and a trailer of one of my favorite stories by the man.

Doyle was a complex man. I am not certain how many times they filmed Hound of the Baskervilles. At least two, for certain.

I once was told that this was my father's favorite record

@edgarblythe,
Don't know Pistol Packin' Papa, edgar, but more synchronicity, buddy.

(I read most of Sherlock's stories when I was a kid. I even recall Doyle having been duped by the existence of fairies)

Last evening on twilight zone, they had an old black and white movie that was soundless, but I heard this playing in the background.

I am old enough to remember hearing Pistol Packing Mama on the radio.
I was just listening to Bob Dylan do Knocking on Heaven's Door on the car radio, a few hours ago.

This was once done by Red Foley, but Elvis was also good on it

@edgarblythe,
Well, edgar, we're having one of those days on WA2K. I recall having heard Bob Dylan do Don't Let the Deal Go Down, too.

Love Peace in the Valley, buddy, and I had to check out Red Foley.

My mama loved the crooner, so I must have heard it on the radio as well.

Now I do remember Porter Wagoner, and here is one that I love by Roy Clark.
