@Barry The Mod,

Letty is well into Cutty Sark lore, the literature I mean.
I explained to Norwegians, on another square-rigger, the meaning of the figurehead of a witch holding part of a horse's tail.
They were grateful, and quite surprised.

Good to see work progress down there, one of my favourite spots.

Good morning from our studio in Florida.

edgar, what a surprise to find out that Burl Ives did Cool Water, and thanks again for your comments. Loved that goodnight song.

Wow! Rock that was a fabulous song. The visuals were awesome and the song by The Little River Band fantastic. Yep, we are drawn via gravity to the moon.

Hey, Brit. The Street Band doing "Toast" was fantastic as was your info on the restoration of the clipper, Cutty Sark.

McTag, welcome back to you as well. First a reminder of the figurehead of the Cutty Sark.

http://www.portcities.org.uk/london/upload/img_400/D4879_2.JPG

She was named after Cutty Sark (Scots: a short chemise or undergarment) the nickname of the fictional character Nannie Dee in Robert Burns' 1791 poem Tam o' Shanter. She is also represented as Nannie Dee by the ship's figurehead, a stark white carving of a bare-breasted woman with long black hair holding a gray horse's tail in her hand. In the poem she wore a linen sark that she had been given as a child, which explains why it was cutty, or in other words far too short, for her. The erotic sight of her dancing in such a short undergarment caused Tam to cry out "Weel done, Cutty-sark", which subsequently became a well known catchphrase.

My favorite lines from Robert Burns poem.

But pleasures are like poppies spread,
You sieze the flower, its bloom is shed;
Or like the snow falls in the river,
A moment white--then melts for ever;
Or like the borealis race,
That flit ere you can point their place;
Or like the rainbow's lovely form
Evanishing amid the storm.

Thanks for the reminder, Taggers.

Today is Jerry Lewis' birthday, so here is a tribute to him and Deano.

edgar, Yep Jerry and Dean were a peach of a pair. Love Memories, buddy. So odd that Dean became ill and died while Jerry is still with us.

Thanks for the other form of Cutty Sark.

Hurry back, Brit. Need to tell you that the only one that would play in the U.S. of A. was So Hard by The Pet Shop Boys. Great lyrics. Says so much about the human condition.

Here's one that was done by many folks, but once again I remember it best by Nat.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Deep Purple by John Gary is fabulous. What a fantastic voice and a clear falsetto, Texas. Perhaps you can recall the other performer and let us know when you can.

Here's the instrumental of If by Bread. I love this one as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5rwhwVcGFk

and the lyrics.

If a picture paints a thousand words,
Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show the you I've come to know.
If a face could launch a thousand ships,
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you,
You're all that's left me too.

And when my love for life is running dry,
You come and pour yourself on me.

If a man could be two places at one time,
I'd be with you.
Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way.
If the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to die,
I'd spend the end with you.
And when the world was through,
Then one by one the stars would all go out,
Then you and I would simply fly away

@edgarblythe,
We were talking at cross porpoises again, edgar. I thought that you said that you had heard Orange Colored Sky by someone other than Nat.

Don't forget to check out If.

I don't know that one by Elton John, buddy, but I like it. Incidentally, Elton said that Leon Russell had inspired him. He also is concerned that Billy Joel is an alcoholic and needs help.

First one that I ever heard by Leon.

I used to be fond of telling people, "Well, kiss my blarney stone. I'm Irish too." Of course I have but a touch of Irish in me, perhaps located in my big toe. But I like Dennis Day.
