From Wikipedia:
"Drift Away" is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz on his 1972 album Reunion. However, Dobie Gray's cover is by far the most popular version. It became Gray's biggest hit in 1973, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, though it did not enter the charts in the United Kingdom.

This song is also a famous "goodbye" or ending song for concerts. Its use is often as filler for a last song, usually in preparation for an encore, since it has a catchy beat and a guitar solo can be easily added to the end of the song in order to spice things up before the encore. As such, many live covers have been performed by a multitude of bands and it has become a hit among soft rock fans. Appropriately, it was the final pop hit for Decca Records in the United States.

Gray's version of Drift Away remains a staple on many classic rock stations

@Francis,
Quote:
Is it true the studio were nervous about the character?
Caine- Well, when they saw the first rushes they said, “He’s wearing glasses! Is he short-sighted?” We said, “No, it’s part of the character.” They said, “There’s never been a leading man since Harold Lloyd who wore glasses, and he was a comedian!”

Thanks, edgar and Francis for the background on Drift and Michael Caine.

Hurry back, Brit. Love the theme to Breakfast at Tiffany's, mainly because it was by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini. Had no idea that it was based on the book by Truman Capote.

Today is Sly Stone's birthday, so here is a tribute to the man.

Moon River is a beautiful song. Sly - haven't heard much about him lately. I always recall the days when he and Dinah Shore spent time together.

@edgarblythe,
UhOh, edgar. Did Jerry Lee have one too many beers? He did that one well, however.

Well, you sent me searching again. Had no idea that he and Dinah were together, buddy.

I recall this:

Father may I go out to swim?
Yes, my darling daughter.
Hang your clothes on a hickory limb,
But don't go near the water.

Here's Dinah doing the same.

@edgarblythe,
John Anderson's Seminole Wind was beautiful. I had forgotten about Oceola. There's a county in Florida by that name. He was a determined Indian, and he was of mixed blood.

Somehow, Texas, your song reminded me of this one.

@edgarblythe,
You sent me searching again, edgar.

Don Williams (born May 27, 1939 in Floydada, Texas), is an American country singer, songwriter and a 2010 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He grew up in Portland, Texas, and graduated in 1958 from Gregory-Portland High School. After seven years with the folk-pop group Pozo-Seco Singers, he began his solo career in 1971, singing popular ballads and amassing 17 No. 1 hits.

His straightforward yet smooth bass-baritone voice, soft tones, and an imposing build earned him the nickname "The Gentle Giant" of country music

That's what makes a marriage work, being friends, etc. That song was awesome. Love it! Thanks again for your comment.

Another friends song.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, that song by Art and Paul was fantastic."...and a poem I'd like to write"...particularly impressed me.

Thanks again for your comment, Texas.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs. First, some great gospel music.

Now, a beautiful classical piece replete with lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcTzvHDzDjs

Silver moon upon the deep dark sky,

Through the vast night pierce your rays.

This sleeping world you wander by,

Smiling on men's homes and ways.

Oh moon ere past you glide, tell me,

Tell me, oh where does my loved one bide?

Oh moon ere past you glide, tell me

Tell me, oh where does my loved one bide?

Tell him, oh tell him, my silver moon,

Mine are the arms that shall hold him,

That between waking and sleeping he may

Think of the love that enfolds him,

May between waking and sleeping

Think of the love that enfolds him.

Light his path far away, light his path,

Tell him, oh tell him who does for him stay!

Human soul, should it dream of me, Let my memory wakened be.

Moon, moon, oh do not wane, do not wane,

Moon, oh moon, do not wane....

So nice to have Australia, France, and England with us today.

From Letty with love and a smile

@Letty,
Down By the Riverside is one of my favorite songs.
Not sure if I have heard Song to the Moon before. It seems familiar.

Paul Young and the Streetband - Toast.

Evening all. I'd like to tell you a story about when I was a young boy. I must have been three or four months old at the time. I didn't know what I wanted, and if I did, I wouldn't have been able to tell anybody, 'cos all I could do was gurgle. So I sat there in me highchair, thinking one day, looking at me tray and thinking what I'd give for a meal on there. So I started looking round the kitchen to see what I could have. I was rubbing me eggy soldier in me head, trying to think, and then I looked over in the corner and there's a yellow and white breadbin with its mouth open, just staring at me, like.I saw bread in there and thought I'll have toast.
A little piece of toast.

Well, then I started getting older,
I hated this, I hated that,
Expensive steak was ludicrous
And cafes couldn't cater for the finer things in life:
The upper crust was not for me,
I could tell that.
So I'd go home,
Switch the kitchen light on,
Put the grill on,
Slip a slice under
And have toast,
A little piece of toast.

'Cos there's so much to choose from.
There's brown bread, white bread,
All sorts of wholemeal bread;
It comes in funny packages
With writing on the side,
But it doesn't matter which one you have
'Cos when you cut the crusts off,
Have it with marmalade
Or butter, cheese, tomatoes, beans,
Banana
Or chocolate if you're strange,
It doesn't really matter.

Oh no, it all goes with toast,
A little piece of toast.

I'm gonna think about it some...

That's toast
Just toast

That's toast
Yeah,just toast.

So then Friday is my day off.
Well I go down the supermarket
With me basket in me hand,
I'm walking from one counter to another
Trying to find the bread stall,
But I can't find it anywhere
And then I bump into a mother
With a baby in a basket
And she says

"Oh look,I come down here for a little bit of peace and quiet
To get some bread to go home to make toast,
Just toast,
I like toast"
Yeah, but I don't half like toast.

OK, scrape that toast, boys.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
That's toast,
Yeah, just toast.

[Spoken]

I can't think about it any more. I've got to go and have some, it's no good. Here listen, I'm getting a bit browned off standing here. Me too. Shall we go and have some toast? Good idea. Why not? OK. I've got the grill on.
