@edgarblythe,
I enjoy listening to different versions as well, edgar.

Ah, I do love that one by Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and I totally agree except for one thing that the lyric omitted, and that is "peer pressure".

Well, today is Vivaldi's birthday, and here is a tribute to the composer that is truly different.

I don't know the artists. Thanks for introducing them.
Here is a Ray Charles record that I have had a hard time finding on youtube in this version. Heck with the graphics.

@edgarblythe,
You're right, edgar. The graphics were stupid, but Ray's I Can't Stop Loving You was one I love by the guy. I wasn't aware of that duo either.

More serendipity. I ran across this item concerning Jane Russell. I immediately thought of Howard Hughes and the enigma that is still perpetrated around the world.

Jane Russell (June 21, 1921 – February 28, 2011)[2] was an American film actress and was one of Hollywood's leading sex symbols in the 1940s and 1950s.

Russell moved from the Midwest to California, where she had her first film role in 1943 with The Outlaw. In 1947, Russell delved into music before returning to films. After starring in multiple films in the 1950s, Russell again returned to music while completing several other films in the 1960s. She starred in over 20 films throughout her career.

Russell married three times and adopted three children and, in 1955, founded the World Adoption International Fund. For her achievements in film, she received several accolades including having her hand and foot prints immortalized in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theater and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She died at her home in Santa Maria, California of a respiratory-related illness on February 28, 2011.

I recall my older sister giggling about the promotion of The Outlaw by saying "she'll knock both your eyes out". Razz

Here's a tribute to the lady, a Hollywood legend.

@edgarblythe,
Don't know that one by Lloyd, edgar. The lyrics rather remind me of High Noon, however.

When I found out that Stagger Lee was censored, I found the lyrics to match Lloyd's song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCPutYaGFlE&feature=fvwrel

Ah, now I see why.

The night was clear, and the moon was yellow
And the leaves came tumblin' down. . .

I was standin' on the corner
When I heard my bull dog bark.
He was barkin' at the two men
Who were gamblin' in the dark.

It was Stagger Lee and Billy,
Two men who gambled late.
Stagger lee threw a seven,
Billy swore that he threw eight.

"Stagger Lee," said Billy,
"I can't let you go with that.
"You have won all my money,
"And my brand-new Stetson hat."

Stagger Lee went home
And he got his .44.
He said, "I'm goin' to the ballroom
"Just to pay that debt I owe."

(bridge)
Go, Stagger Lee

Stagger Lee went to the ballroom
And he strolled across the ballroom floor.
He said "You did me wrong, Billy."
And he pulled his .44.

"Stagger Lee," said Billy,
"Oh, please don't take my life!
"I've got three hungry children,
"And a very sickly wife."

Stagger Lee shot Billy
Oh, he shot that poor boy so hard
That a bullet went through Billy
And broke the bartender's bar.

Go, Stagger Lee, go, Stagger Lee!
Go, Stagger Lee, go, Stagger Lee!
(to fade

@Letty,
The original Stagger Lee was pretty rough. Lloyd Price got together with Dick Clark to come up with this version.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks for the info, edgar. I have never heard the original lyrics, I guess.

My word, Texas. I had no idea that Lloyd wrote those lyrics, nor that Elvis sang it. It was not the Good Lawdy Miss Clawdy that I remember.

Well, our listeners (including you) may get a wee bit tired of hearing this one by Elvis, but it's one of my favorites. (wish stray cat would let us know something)

tempted to play Andrea's version, but I won't.

@Letty,
I just searched Stagger Lee lyrics and the Lloyd Price version is pretty mild, compared to the other versions I found. The last one I read was so raw and ugly to read, that I will not paste a link. Did not like it a bit.

I love that song by Elvis, letty.
Tammy Wynette is usually remembered for Stand By Your Man, these days. I muchly prefer her sounding like this

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I never heard Hardly a Day Goes by by Tammy. She is great on that one.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with a jazz instrumental, followed by the lyrics which, somehow, I remember myself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln6yI-0elu4

as beats the ocean waves upon the sand,
So beats my heart for you

And just as constantly as sea meets sand
So beats my heart for you.

I'll always be true,
Faithful to you,
Skies have been blue
Since you came in view.

As beats the rhythm of a mighty band
So beats my heart for you, dear.
So beats my heart for you.

Glad to have Canada with us last night, and our Brit with us today.

From Letty with love and pretty good RNA (the memory gene)

Lee Dorsey - Who's Gonna Help a Brother.

WE MAY SEEM HAPPY
LIKE EVERYTHING IS ALRIGHT
FROM THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
EVERYTHING'S UPTIGHT

BUT DEEP DOWN INSIDE
WE'RE COVERING UP THE PAIN
IT'S A OLD THING, IT'S A SOUL THING
BUT IT'S A REAL THING

PLAY DOWN WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN TO BROTHER
WHO'S GONNA HELP HIM GET FURTHER
ONE ANOTHER (YEAH, YOU'RE RIGHT!)
ONE ANOTHER

THERE'S OLD DUDE, STANDING ON THE CORNER
WAITING FOR A FOX TO PASS
THE ONLY THING HE'S GOT TO GO BY
THAT THIS IS WHERE HE SAW HER LAST

AND THERE'S OLD JOHN, TWO DOLLARS IN HIS POCKET
TALKING LIE AND THINKS HE'S RICH
AND LOOK THAT LITTLE FOOL, TOO COOL TO GO TO SCHOOL
HE GET A JOB IN TWO DAYS, HE QUIT

PLAY DOWN WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN TO BROTHER
WHO'S GONNA HELP HIM GET FURTHER
ONE ANOTHER (IS THAT THE TRUTH')
ONE ANOTHER (YEAH, YOU'RE RIGHT)

NOW... YEAH, YEAH, YEAH... YEAAAAAAAHH...!!
...NOW, WHO'S GONNA HELP BROTHER GET FURTHER
...NOW I FIND, I'M ENCLINED, TO BELIEVE ONE ANOTHER!
YEAH... OOOOH PLAY IT SON..!!

NOW LOOK AT HERE...

MOMMA GET UP EARLY, EARLY IN THE MORNING
POPPA'S ALREADY GONE (GOOOOOOONE)
AND I BEEN SLAVING FOR HALF FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, NOW
AND YOU KNOW THAT'S WRONG

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIBERTY BELL
I HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT'
DID IT MEAN A DING DONG' (A DING DONG)
IT MUST HAVE DING DONGED (IT DIDN'T DING LONG..)

PLAY DOWN WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN TO BROTHER
WHO'S GONNA HELP HIM GET FURTHER
ONE ANOTHER (IS THAT THE TRUTH')
ONE ANOTHER (YEAH, YOU'RE RIGHT)

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH YEAAAAAAAHH...!!

Good morning from Florida, WA2K folks.

edgar, I found out why I know the lyrics to So Beats My Heart. Tony Bennett did it.

Amazing goodnight song, Texas. Why in the world would I know The Man on the Flying Trapeze? I do, however.

Thanks, Brit, for both of those great songs. Don't know Lee Dorsey, but Ball of Confusion was typical of that day and time. Hurry back, buddy.

edgar, Don't know Timi Yuro, but her song was an example of what those on top, especially in the movies, are challenged with in real life. As I once observed, when you're on top, there's no place to go but down.

Two songs for the morning. First one that I awakened early and listened to, by Willie Nelson.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpbHt7Cqjd8

Now, since it is Rex Harrison's birthday, a tribute to that talented man, the original in My Fair Lady. (I think)

I like that one by Willie Nelson.
Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady - I have watched the movie so many times, I don't have a close guess as to how many. First time I saw it was in a theater in Seattle. That was either '63 or 4. Saw it on TV twice. Then my brother gave me a tape of it. My daughter read Pygmalion in high school. She happened in on me watching the film. After a few minutes, she recognized it and told me she hated it. "Nothing ever happens." I was so disappointed. Oh, well.
