Good morning, WA2K folks

edgar, you know how I love Matt Monroe (the singing bus driver) Thank you for your comments and that lovely song.

Hey, Brit. You mean you don't know "old blue eyes"? Razz

Love It Was a Very good Year by Lou. Hard to beat that guy.

Welcome back, Irish. I don't know Mundy, but he does rock. Thanks for the comments and the introduction.

Today is this lovely lady's birthday.

Teresa Teng (January 29, 1953 - May 8, 1995) (traditional Chinese: 鄧麗君; simplified Chinese: 邓丽君; pinyin: Dèng Lìjūn; Wade–Giles: Teng Li-chun; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tēng Lē-kun, Japanese: テレサ・テン), was an immensely popular and influential Chinese pop singer from Taiwan. Teresa Teng's voice and songs are instantly recognized throughout East Asia and in areas with large Asian populations. It is often said, "Wherever there are Chinese people, the songs of Teresa Teng can be heard." Her songs also enjoy huge popularity among Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Indonesian listeners.

Teng died from a severe asthma attack while on holiday in Chiang Mai, Thailand at the age of 42 (43 by Chinese reckoning) on May 8, 1995. She was an asthmatic throughout her adult life. Teng was given state honors at her funeral in Taiwan, with the flag of the Republic of China draped over her casket and then president Lee Teng-hui in attendance among thousands in mourning.

We really don't need a translation of this fabulous song by her. It speaks to us regardless.

That was a lovely song, I'd never heard of Teresa Teng before,
lovely voice, shame she died so young.
Here's a piece of music I love, It's arranged by Ryuichi Sakamoto
for the film "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence". He also starred in the
movie alongside David Bowie.

@eurocelticyankee,
Irish, that was the most captivating music that I have ever heard. I didn't see the movie, but I have been searching all morning for English lyrics to your fantastic version.

This is one of the songs that I found, but it seems that there are no lyrics to that one.

@Letty,
I recommend the movie, Miss Letty. It's a war movie about
a Japanese POW camp and the tension between a young English
officer (David Bowie) and a Japanese officer (Ryûichi Sakamoto).
That was David Sylvian singing, he was the lead singer of a band
called, guess, "Japan". They had pretty short career it has to be said.
This is one of their betterish songs.

Visions of China.....Japan.

Was he influenced by Bowie or what.

That was a nice 6 minutes of music Wandeljw, she had a voice.
Good one Ed, I never heard nick nack, paddy wack on record
before. Shocked

wandel, I loved that Teresa Teng medley. Knew most of her songs. Thanks, buddy, and welcome back.

edgar, I remember that parody on the Colonel Bogey March. Love it!

Irish, thanks for the info on the movie and that wonderful one by Mick Karns. Yep, he sounded a lot like Bowie. RIP, Mick

JPB, Wonderful classic. I know most of Chopin's music, but not that one. Thanks flower lady.

Hope I didn't miss anyone. It's such a wonderful mix for a Saturday.

Today is Tom Selleck's birthday, and here is a rather weird tribute to him, y'all.

@Letty,
That certainly was a weird tribute to Tom, I'd say
it was put together by a German Techno head.

PADDY REILLY a great Dublin singer, although apparently he now lives
in Naples, Florida and frequents O'Donoghue's Bar & Grill, Marco Island.

Two from Paddy.

@eurocelticyankee,
Ah, Irish, loved both those Paddy Reilly songs, especially the Irish whistle.

Strange, for some reason my daddy wanted a wake. Must be a little Irish mix in my Virginia blood. Razz

Here's a funny one about Paddy.

@JPB,
What a wonderful mix we have on WA2K radio today.

Irish, German, British, Japanese, Chinese.

Love that one by Beethoven, lovely flower lady. Now, some Russian.

One part of his classical inspired the popular song Full Moon and Empty Arms.

@Letty,
That was a nice little shanty. It's amazing the reputation
we Irish have for drinking and shenanigans, I think it's because
we sing so much. Truth is statistically speaking we're way down
the league of drinking nations. I don't drink nor do most of my friends
and those that do might just have a glass of wine with their dinner.
Our youth over indulge, but the same could be said of most countries.
It's the old story of mud sticking, if enough people constantly comment
on the Irish & drinking, then we'll never shake this undeserved reputation.
For instance the Irish only consume 65% of the alcohol the Sth Koreans
do, yet their not known as drinkers.

Am I moaning again. Wink Drunk

@eurocelticyankee,
I wonder about a gene that might be associated with drinking, Irish. You ought to be with the jazz boys on New Year's Eve sometimes. Yikes! If I recall, the American Indian had a problem with alcohol.

Speaking of moaning, how about Art Blakey. Met him when we were in New York.

Backstage at the Helloween concert in Krakow during their ongoing tour through Europe. You might not recognize him but the guy with the long hair and the glasses taking care of the fans is our own BigDice who is on tour with Helloween at the moment. The quality of this video is not very good but it is special! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z81xaaURiw

@eurocelticyankee,
Thanks for the comment, Irish. That Surface of the Sun was awesome and a haunting Adagio. Generally, songs in a minor key are.

Inspired by one of your characters, I went searching again.
