@edgarblythe,
Welcome back, edgar. You just saved the day. Razz I best remember Gene for Liberty Valence, buddy. I was searching for an afternoon song. I didn't know them either.

Ah, dear Hank. Take These Chains From My Heart was one of his best.

Thinking about your comment of our economic conditions, here is Peggy to summarize the situation.

@edgarblythe,
Great group, edgar, and you sent me searching again.(Peggy will always be great)

The Hollies are an English pop and rock group, formed in Manchester in the early 1960s, though most of the band members are from throughout East Lancashire. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style, they became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s and 1970s. They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries, although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Along with The Rolling Stones and The Searchers, they are one of the few British pop groups of the early 1960s that have never officially broken up and that continue to record and perform. The Hollies were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010

Thanks for the introduction, Texas. I guess we're all Crusaders in a way.

First one that I ever heard by Otis.

The first Otis song I knew was RESPECT, sung by Aretha. Didn't know Otis wrote it for years. After that, Sitting on the Bay Dock. Somebody gave me a CD of his greatest songs for Christmas four or five years ago.

@edgarblythe,
Dear Elvis, Forever Is a Long Time was awesome. Had no idea that Bob did that one, edgar. Don't believe that I ever heard Respect by Aretha, Texas.

I played Otis because your Hollies inspired me to remember all of those musicians who died in an airplane crash. Sitting on the Dock was one of the last that he did.

Another that we'll miss, y'all.

Rather concerned about EuroGeorge, the Irishman. Hope he's all right.

I was a great fan of Buddy Holly. I believe he was right at the verge of realizing his best work when that plane crashed.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! Had no idea that David was Lefty's younger brother. He and Shelly did a great job with that song, God Made Oklahoma.

Don't know The Louvin Brothers, edgar, but I am always sad when any good musician dies. Knoxville Girl was a good one. Thanks for the introduction.

I love Lefty, so here is my favorite song by him. Also a bit of info.

I know we've discussed this before, but it still fascinates me

The lyrics concern a man accused of murder on circumstantial evidence, who will not speak up to exonerate himself because he was sleeping with his best friend's wife on the fatal night. Remaining silent to save her life and reputation, he goes to the gallows, and she visits his grave secretly. The composers said they were inspired by Red Buttons' "God Walks These Hills With Me" as well as contemporary news reports about the death of a New Jersey priest who actually was murdered under a town hall light in full view of 50 witnesses. Neither the motive nor the killer was ever named. The writers combined these elements with the story of the mysterious veiled woman who annually visits Rudolph Valentino's tomb to leave red roses.

Long Black Veil by Lefty is not just the first, it is also the best version, in my not humble opinion.

Eva Cassidy - Time After Time.
Eva Marie Cassidy (February 2, 1963 – November 2, 1996) was an American vocalist known for her interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country and pop classics. In 1992 she released her first album, The Other Side, a set of duets with go-go musician Chuck Brown, followed by a live solo album, Live at Blues Alley in 1996. Although she had been honored by the Washington Area Music Association, she was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, D.C. when she died of melanoma in 1996.

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
and think of you
turning in circles confusion--
is nothing new
Flashback to warm nights--
almost left behind
suitcase of memories,
time after--

sometimes you picture me--
I'm walking too far ahead
you're calling to me, I can't hear
what you've said--
Then you say--go slow--
I fall behind--
the second hand unwinds

if you're lost you can look--and you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I will be waiting
time after time
time after time

after your picture fades - darkness has
turned to gray
watching through windows--I'm wondering
if you're OK
and you say - go slow - I fall behind
the drum beats out of time--

if you're lost you can look--and you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I will be waiting
time after time
...time after time
time after time
time after time
time after time

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, Loved Odetta's Pretty Little Horses. She is great. Hurry back, Texas, 'cause all is well with our forum now.

Hey, Brit. Eva Cassidy's Time After Time was awesome. Great oldie by her as well. Cheek to Cheek was wonderful.

John Williams' theme from Schindler's List was fantastic. Adagio for Strings was so calming. At least I didn't fall asleep at the wheel. Razz

More synchronicity, y'all. I awakened to Cold Case and the ending song was A Whiter Shade of Pale. We know that the song was taken from Mozart's Sleepers Awake. (which I just did) Today is Mozart's birthday so here is a march by him.

Hope we get other countries today on WA2K.

@Letty,
Good morning, Miss Letty.

I'd like to dedicate this to our friends along the east coast who are struggling with the latest blast of winter.

@Letty,
I always think of a scene from the A&E version of Pride and Prejudice when I hear that piece.

Happy Birthday, Wolfgang!
