@edgarblythe,
I agree that Robert Louis Stevenson should have a theme park, edgar.

What in the world? That was humorous about Harry. Made me smile, Texas.

Today is Manet's birthday, so let's watch some art by him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmNl_kGcug0

I always like Manet better than Monet until I saw his Impressions of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Welcome back hbg, and just as edgar, I know that Swinging Safari by Bert whats-his-name. Razz Thanks, buddy.

edgar, thanks again for your comments. Al Stewart's Football Hero was awesome. Also really like George Jones' Corvette song.

I see that today is John Hancock's birthday and he signed The Declaration with such flourish so that King George could read it without his glasses.

Speaking of Hancock, how about a little jazz for the afternoon, y'all. Wonder if Herbie is any kin?

@Letty,
Evening Ms Letty,Ed and all WA2K folks.Ms Letty,I read in the newspaper the other day that your President was planning a party at the White House for the Chinese Premier.Obviously some sort of music was required and he picked up the phone and rang Herbie to see if he was free.He was knocking on the door of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue like a shot....

@Barry The Mod,
Welcome back, Brit. Herbie Makes Sounds was great. Glad our Prez recognizes talent when he hears it.

How about another Herbie. Jethro's not the only one who plays a great jazz flute.

and the lyrics by Stevie wonder.

Sunny,
Yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny,
You smiled at me and really eased the pain.
The dark days are gone,
And the bright days are here,
My Sunny one shines so sincere.
Sunny one so true,
I love you.

Sunny,
Thank you for the sunshine bouquet.
Sunny,
Thank you for the love you brought my way.
You gave to me your all and all.
Now I feel ten feet tall.
Sunny one so true,
I love you.

Sunny, thank you for the truth you let me see.
Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to C.
My life was torn like a windblown sand,
And the rock was formed when you held my hand.
Sunny one so true,
I love you.

Letty, Sunny is such a wonderful song, I thought I would share the history behind it.

"Sunny" is the name of a song written by Bobby Hebb. It is one of the most covered popular songs, with hundreds of versions released. BMI rates "Sunny" number 25 in its "Top 100 songs of the century".

Hebb wrote the song after 22 November 1963, the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Hebb's older brother Harold was killed in a knife fight outside a Nashville nightclub. Hebb was devastated by both events and many critics say that those events inspired the tune. According to Hebb, he wrote the song as an expression of a preference for a "sunny" disposition over a "lousy" disposition. Certainly, events influenced Bobby's songwriting, but his timeless melody, crossing over into R&B (#3 on U.S. R&B chart) Country and Pop (#2 on U.S. Pop chart), together with the optimistic lyrics, came from the artist's desire to express that one should always "look at the bright side" - a direct quote from the author. Hebb has said about "Sunny":

"All my intentions were just to think of happier times – basically looking for a brighter day – because times were at a low tide. After I wrote it, I thought "Sunny" just might be a different approach to what Johnny Bragg was talking about in 'Just Walkin' in the Rain'".

I hope you will forgive me if I don't comment on each song. I am a bit tired. I do love Herbie Mann and Herbie Hancock, as well as Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder.

Good early morning to our WA2K folks.

Jake the Peg was hilarious, Brit. I've been to Nags Head, incidentally.

edgar, thanks for your comments. Didn't know that about Sunny. You always find out such crucial things. Rest up and hurry back.

Hope I didn't miss anyone. One of those sleepless nights again.

A new discovery, y'all.

and some info.

Chicane is a British EDM act, and the guise of British musician, composer, songwriter and record producer, Nicholas Bracegirdle.

Chicane is known for the singles "Offshore", an Ibiza dance anthem included in many compilations in both chill-out and dance versions; "Saltwater", which featured vocals by Clannad member Máire Brennan and is one of the most well-known and popular singles of the trance genre; and the UK number-one hit Don't Give Up", featuring vocals by Bryan Adams, which became a top ten hit on singles charts across Europe and Australia.

Far From The Maddening Crowds, Chicane's debut album, is still considered a seminal release among the trance music community. while the second album, Behind The Sun, was certified gold in the UK. In 2007, after the hindrance of an ultimately unreleased album in the intervening time, 3rd artist album Somersault, was released on Bracegirdle's independent record label, followed shortly after by a re-release of Far From The Maddening Crowds which included a new mix of "Offshore".

Hmmm, that should be madding crowd

Good morning. It's a beautiful but rainy morning in Tomball. About 50 degrees. I can stand it.
letty, your newly discovered music is well done - not the sort of thing I would spend my time with, long range, but not bad.
I will return to brighten a2k with my presence later on today. Have a nice one, ya hear?

Rodk, I remember when those guys were selling their OLd Dogs music on these long infomercials. I like each one of them individually.

It's been so many years since I watched Old Yeller, I no longer knew the theme.

Serve Somebody, a Dylan song, was well done, letty.
