Hey, Urs. We didn't have to listen to Michael; we love to listen to him. Hope you do get to participate, gal. Boy Scouts are good kids and grownups.

edgar, thanks for your comments, buddy, and I love that Irish tenor Dennis. All I recall about Jack Benny is that he never got to be over thirty nine, and he played the violin and was always saying: "Well". Smile

Speaking of Rose, here is one by Bette Middler with German lyrics and if I'm not mistaken, it was about Janis Joplin.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't see the movie, edgar.

The Power of Love was awesome. Huey Lewis and the News does a terrific job on that one. The nice thing about your video, is that it contains the lyrics. Don't remember it from Back to the Future. Dear Michael J. Fox. Wonder how he is doing?

This guy I don't know but today is his birthday. First a little info.

Sir Cliff Richard, OBE (born Harry Rodger Webb; 14 October 1940) is an English singer, musician, performer, actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist, who has sold over 260 million records worldwide in a career spanning 7 decades.

With his backing group The Shadows, Richard, originally positioned as a rebellious rock and roll singer in the style of Little Richard and Elvis Presley, dominated the British popular music scene in the pre-Beatles period of the late 1950s and early 1960s. His 1958 hit single "Move It" is often described as Britain's first authentic rock and roll song, and John Lennon once claimed that "before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music". A conversion to Christianity and subsequent softening of his music later led to a more middle of the road pop image, sometimes venturing into gospel.

Over a 52-year career, Richard has become a fixture of the British entertainment world. He has amassed hundreds of gold and platinum discs and awards, including three Brit awards and two Ivor Novello awards, making him one of the most successful singers of all time. He has had more than 130 singles (Sold more than 150 million singles worldwide), albums and EPs make the UK Top 20, more than any other artist. He holds the record (with Elvis Presley) as the only act to make the UK singles charts in all of its first six decades (1950sā€“2000s). He has achieved 14 UK number one singles (or 18, depending on the counting methodology) and is the only singer to have had a number one single in the UK in five consecutive decades: the 1950s through to the 1990s (discounting digital downloads and counting only CDs, he also had a UK number one single in the 2000s). He is the biggest selling singles artist of all time in the UK, with total sales of over 27 million and UK album sales of over 18 million.

This one must have been in his early days, folks.

I think it's still fair to drop in one more ode to summer even though summer left us almost a month ago:

Miles Davis and Summertime from Porgy and Bess.

Still dark here, y'all, but it's so great to awaken to music from around the world.

edgar, had no idea that Ricky did that song. His Stone Canyon Band was a new one to me, buddy. Great one, and thanks again for your comments.

Hey, tsar, welcome back. Saw Joe's photo of y'all in New York. Hard to recognize, however, as the faces were a bit shadowy. Love Summertime by Gershwin ala Miles. Had no idea about the background.

Porgy and Bess is an opera, first performed in 1935, with music by George Gershwin, libretto by DuBose Heyward, and lyrics by Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward. It was based on DuBose Heyward's novel Porgy and the play of the same name which he co-wrote with his wife Dorothy Heyward. All three works deal with African American life in the fictitious Catfish Row (based on the real-life Rainbow Row) in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 1920s.

My word, Brit the "rope a dope" man sang? Stand by Me was quite well done by Ali.

Here's Summertime by Ella. Glad that she didn't do too much scat. Smile

I like the music from Porgy and Bess.
I've gotta agree about the greatness of those voices.
Richard Carpenter was a good person as well as talented, I believe.

@edgarblythe,
UhOh, edgar. That's another song that I know and don't know why I know it. Great one. Thanks again for the comments, Texas. Noticed that The Wheels on the Bus was there, too.

"The men on the bus go argue, argue, argue
argue argue argue
argue argue argue
O the men on the bus go argue, argue, argue all through the town". Smile

Remember that we once discussed the bankruptcy of MGM who had the franchise on The James Bond movies?

Another new development, buddy.

MADRID (AFP) ā€“ Oscar-winning film star Sean Connery and his wife have been subpoenaed to testify before a Spanish judge in an investigation into a property scandal, court sources said Thursday.

The 80-year-old actor, who currently lives in the Bahamas, was named in May in the investigation dubbed "Goldfinger" after the 1964 James Bond film and which involves the sale of his luxury seaside villa near the jet-set resort of Marbella.

Connery sold the villa, named Malibu, in 1999 reportedly for around nine million dollars (6.5 million euros).

The villa was subsequently knocked down, and a four-storey luxury apartment complex with 72 flats was built on the land where it once stood in 2004-2005, despite planning rules which said only five homes could be constructed on it.

In May police raided the Madrid and Marbella offices of a law firm which is believed to have handled the sale of the firm.

The Scottish actor and his French-born wife, Micheline, have been summoned to appear before the judge in Marbella on October 15, court sources said.
