Hey, tsar. You're not being capricious are you? Exactly which songs were you referring to, buddy?

Mark O'Connor is new to me, but in doing a bit of research found out he did jazz and other genres of music. That solo violin piece was different. Don't you know that Johnny Mercer is the ultimate in jazz? Smile

edgar, thanks again for the comments.

Ahem, meanwhile back to the preaching.

Hope I didn't miss anyone. When I go to the archives I tend to get carried away.

@Letty,
Your choice of the Johnny Mercer (a character I don't ever recall hearing about prior to reading your post) was a delightful reintroduction to a song that usually made me gag Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive.

I now like at least that one version of the song. Very Happy

Mark O'Connor is just a salute to my flighty side that got coincidentally placed in that post instead of a follow up posting it deserved.

Gymnopedie was so mellow. Thanks for the introduction

tsar, Now I understand, honey. You're good at explaining.

Reyn, at first I thought that you and edgar were talking about a watchtower.

edgar, thanks again for the comments, and Eddy's Anytime is one of my favorites.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs. First, here's one I know and don't know why I know it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K7v2iAJDx8&feature=related

and, y'all, the lyrics.

Come, oh, songs! come, oh, dreams!
Soft the gates of day close,
Sleep, my birds, sleep, streams!
Sleep, my wild rose!

Pool and bud, hill and deep,
You who wore my robes, sleep!
Droop, East! die, West!
Let my land rest.

Woods, I woke your boughs!
Hills, I woke your elf-throngs!
Land, All thy hopes and woes
Rang from me in songs!

Come, oh, songs! come, oh,dreams!
In our house is deep rest,
Through the pines gleams, gleams,
Bright the gold West,

There the flutes shall cry,
There the viols weep,
Laugh, my dreams, and sigh!
Sing, and vigil keep,
Call to them that sleep,
Call to them that sleep

Finally, Jimi Hendrix.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K and edgar. Wasn't To a Wild Rose lovely? Thanks for your comments and I really love Al Martino's Mary in the Morning.

Interesting, y'all. Today is Claude Debussy's birthday and here are two songs that are perfect for the day.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, the melody and lyrics were stuck in my head so I went a searchin'. Same with To a Wild Rose.

Thanks to the squirrel and Joe, I now have most of the names to match the faces in the visuals of All the Sad Young Men.

Should you like, you can replay the song and be "able to know" Smile

Michelangelo
Leonardo da Vinci
Alexander the Great?
Desiderius Erasmus
Lord Byron
Caravaggio's "The Young, Sick Bacchus"

Pyotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky

Paul Wittgenstein
Cole Porter
Oscar Wilde

Here's another tribute to Debussy on his special day with visuals from Monet.

Nice Debussy - I love Monet's work.
Well. I just got the floor down. As John, here, says, I am tired. Going to take it easy in the easy chair.
