@JPB,
Hey, miss squirrel. Love that "In the STILL of the Night." Those Nevilles are talented brothers. Smile

Wow! Miss squirrel. You flew in here so rapidly, that I missed your classic. You always play great stuff on WA2K radio.

Good morning, WA2K radio folks.

Loved Dvorak and Mendelssohn, Chicago. Thanks for the classics.

Mr. Moose, Luther Andross' Power of Love was awesome. Yep, love has the power to do lots of things.

edgar, thanks again for your comments. The octarina is a different and lovely instrument. Oops, you said hi to Izzie. Did I miss her contribution?

Ah, Brenda Lee and her Sittin' on Top of the World was great and Brahams' Lullaby perfect for a goodnight song.

More synchronicity, Texas. You did the Beatles this morning, and today is Gene Kelly's birthday.

Love this one to begin the day.

Things we may not know about Gene. I know that I didn't know them.

Gene Kelly was a lifelong Democratic Party supporter with strong progressive convictions, which occasionally created difficulty for him as his period of greatest prominence coincided with the McCarthy era in the U.S. In 1947, he was part of the Committee for the First Amendment, the Hollywood delegation which flew to Washington to protest at the first official hearings by the House Committee on Un-American Activities. His first wife, Betsy Blair, was suspected of being a Communist sympathizer and when MGM, who had offered Blair a part in Marty (1955), were considering withdrawing her under pressure from the American Legion, Kelly successfully threatened MGM with a pullout from It's Always Fair Weather unless his wife was restored to the part. He used his position on the board of directors of the Writers Guild of America, West on a number of occasions to mediate disputes between unions and the Hollywood studios, and although he was frequently accused by some on the right of championing the unions, he was valued by the studios as an effective mediator. In later years he voiced opposition to the Vietnam War and was critical of presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

He retained a lifelong passion for sports and relished competition. He was known as a big fan of the New York Yankees. With his first wife, he organized weekly parties at their Beverly Hills home which were renowned for an intensely competitive and physical version of charades, known as "The Game".

Kelly died in his sleep at 8.15 a.m. on February 2, 1996, in Beverly Hills, California after a stroke – he had also suffered a stroke the year before. His body was cremated the same day and he had left instructions that there was to be no funeral and no memorial services. Kelly's papers are currently housed at the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center at Boston University

@Izzie,
Hi, hun. So nice to see you back here again and Give a Little Love was great. I have been checking in to your ship and seeing your lovely face and hearing about your FQ's trouble. Also glad to see that Wandel is a survivor as were my two sisters. Nope, not gonna play I Will Survive. Smile

For you and those who have problems.

Replete with lyrics, y'all.

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile
With your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just...

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just...

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by...

If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile...

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

Check out Gene dancing, 'cause that made me smile. He is so great.

I love Gene Kelly and I was in synch with his politics, mostly.

Charles may have written that song and Nat had a hit with it, but the video you chose is pretty nice, letty.

Hola, WA2K listeners.

I dusted off an old favorite movie and watched it this morning. Here's one of the songs from the soundtrack.

Take it to the river - The Commitments
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svdmgux-y2E&feature=related

and a cut from the movie - The dark end of the street.

edgar, don't know The Jayettes, but that song reminded me of "ring around the roses; a pocket full of poses" That was, I think, about smallpox.

Hey, hola JPB. I checked out the movie. Never saw it, but the Commitments were great. Another race thing, I see.

Hey, Texas, The River by Garth Brooks was fantastic, and good advice for all of us. Not certain what you meant by the video to which you referred. Perhaps later, you can explain. (the one about Nat)

JPB has me on a classical kick, y'all, so here is one of my favorites!

Sheeze. I'm going to have to tell my niece about those lousy commercials!

@Letty,
Oh.... it's a great movie.

From IMDb
Quote:
Jimmy Rabbitte, just a tick out of school, gets a brilliant idea: to put a soul band together in Barrytown, his slum home in north Dublin. First he needs musicians and singers: things slowly start to click when he finds three fine-voiced females virtually in his back yard, a lead singer (Deco) at a wedding, and, responding to his ad, an aging trumpet player, Joey "The Lips" Fagan. Song by song, gig by gig, the Commitments start their climb to the top: Dublin gets soul. But internal strife also builds: Deco is insufferable, Joey's a Casanova, and Jimmy may lack the seasoning to hold things together. Will the Commitments slip away?

The band is supposedly made up of 20-somethings but Andrew Strong, who plays the lead singer Deco, was 17-18 during the time the film was shot. Great Voice!

The long-hair guitar player that you get occasional glimpses of is Glen Hansard who stars in my second favorite movie - Once

Falling Slowly

When Your Mind's Made Up

It's another Irish movie about a bunch of kids trying to make it as a band

@JPB,
This must be the ones of whom you speak, Miss squirrel.

You forgot to do The Mustang Sally one. Smile

They are a great group, Chicago.

Especially enjoyed Falling Slowly and When Your mind's Made Up. Thanks for the introduction, gal.

For some reason, I have Brazil 66 in my head this evening.
