@edgarblythe,
I had forgotten about Frankie Avalon, edgar. Loved Venus by him.

Here's one to match and we'll dedicate this to our Venus.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with two songs.

First a Chopin Nocturne.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt8MyUwNpkM&feature=related

Now a funny animal one from Walk on the Wild side.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n6GYolfWug&feature=related

Was going to play Lou Reed's version of that, but it was a bit risque.

So nice to have Canada and London with us today.

Goodnight all,

From Letty with love

Like the venus song.
The animals are very cute.
Did you know Lou Reed was the main component of Andy Warhol's band, Velvet Underground?
My computer keeps shutting down. Got to be quick here.

Sing-along time....

Show of Hands - Roots.

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England.

Now it's been 25 years or more
I've roamed this land from shore to shore
From Tyne to Tamar, Severn to Thames
From moor to vale, from peak to fen

Played in cafes and pubs and bars
I've stood in the street with my old guitar
But I'd be richer than all the rest
If I had a pound for each request

For 'Duelling Banjos', 'American Pie'
It's enough to make you cry
'Rule Britannia', or 'Swing low...'
Are they the only songs we English know?

Seed, bud, flower, fruit
They're never gonna grow without their roots
Branch, stem, shoot
They need roots

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow

After the speeches, when the cake's been cut
The disco's over and the bar is shut
At christening, birthday, wedding or wake
What can we sing 'til the morning breaks

When the Indians, Asians, Afro-Celts
It's in their blood, below their belt
They're playing and dancing all night long
So what have they got right that we've got wrong?

Seed, bud, flower, fruit
They're never gonna grow without their roots
Branch, stem, shoot
We need roots and

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England
We need roots

And a minister said his vision of hell
Is three folk singers in a pub near Wales
Well, I've got a vision of urban sprawl
There's pubs where no-one ever sings at all

And everyone stares at a great big screen
Overpaid soccer stars, prancing teens
Australian soap, American rap
Estuary English, baseball caps

And we learn to be ashamed before we walk
Of the way we look, and the way we talk
Without our stories or our songs
How will we know where we come from?
I've lost St. George in the Union Jack
It's my flag too and I want it back

Seed, bud, flower, fruit
Never gonna grow without their roots
Branch, stem, shoot
We need roots

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England

Good morning WA2K radio folks.

edgar, never heard Sam Cooke do that unique version of Frankie and Johnny. I also checked out Lou Reed's connection to Andy's Velvet Underground. They were a rough bunch. Thanks, buddy.

Eva, welcome back. Don't be such a stranger on our radio. Glad that you enjoyed the dedication, gal.

Brit, Really enjoyed Show of Hands' Roots. The lyrics were awesome, too. I guess In a Sentimental Mood is one of my fav's. Don't know Michael and Jim, but they did a fantastic job with that great jazz song.

Mornin' , edgar. Here's a birthday boy for us to greet the day.

Herb Ellis

Herb is a great guitarist who also did an album about Texas. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! I had forgotten about Grandpa Jones. Used to watch this all the time, edgar. Thanks for the Rattler song.

Not exactly the Donkey Serenade, however.

How about some Red River Valley now, y'all.

When I hear Red River Vally I always think of the old John Ford movies. He managed to get that song into bunches of them.

@edgarblythe,
Don't know Frank Miller, edgar, but I recognized "I'M Busted". I believe that Ray Charles did that one as well.

Hey, this is "country" day on WA2K.

Speaking of Grandpa Jones, he and "stringbean" were buddies. Remember that guy, edgar?

When I was a wee thing and visited my country cousins in Richmond, Va. There used to be what was known as stage shows.

The only thing that I recall about Stringbean, is that he was always saying, "Lord, I feel so unnecessary."

Here's a ballad of the man and his wife.

We listened to the Grand Ole Opry often and later saw it on TV. I knew all about Stringbean. I remember reading the story of his death when it happened. Totally senseless.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, Gentleman Jim. I remember that one, edgar. My oldest sister loved that song.

Well, here's something from another country. Urs and her Swede are back from a fantastic vacation in Sweden.

How about a little Chet for them.
