ah, dj. Loved that Kate Rusby song. You have played that one here before and I'm still trying to figure out my Scottish connection. Need to contact my older sister, I guess. Well this lassie has got to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with The Music of the Night.

Perhaps Paris will be back tomorrow. Lance Armstrong is doing the Tour de France next month.

Hope McTag is having fun walking in The Black Forest. Smile

Love having Wales, Canada and London with Texas and Florida. Don't know where the sun man is from. Hey, Chicago. Don't stay away too long.

Goodnight, world.

Morning Ms Letty,Ed,deej,mark,ss and all the WA2K crowd.It's taking longer for this "night" guy to read back before he hits the hay Smile .Starting at the Odd News-Desk....

"Lightning victim attacked by bear
------------------------------------------
A man who was once struck by lightning has been mauled by a bear in Wake County, North Carolina.

Rick Oliver, 51, revealed that he has had trouble sleeping since being hit by lightning in 2006 and often walks around his farm late at night, News&Observer reports.

Earlier this month, he went to investigate some distant rustling at his farm between Cary and Raleigh in the early hours of the morning.

Oliver said: "I heard this strange huffing, and the next thing I know I had been run over and stepped on by a bear."

He was gouged by the black bear so badly that when he removed his bandages, his blood spilled from the wound "like a hose", prompting him to go to hospital.

"It was like getting struck by lightning," Oliver said of the attack."

He should know! 3 strikes and out???? Hope he's got good insurance!

Starting your day gently with a Brit rock classic turned "posh"....

edgar, loved that Paul and Art song. Never heard that one but it was great. Thanks, dj, for that background info.

Hey, Brit. That conversion by Queen was breathtaking. Listened twice. Well, lightning may never strikes twice in the same place, but bears have no such rules.

Good morning WA2K folks. I am amazed that Ian Anderson leads us down a trail of Ambrose Bierce and this marvelous short story. Do you suppose there is such a thing as a lightning before death? What a writer.

@Barry The Mod,
Hey, Brit. Missed your American in the City of Lights; and here's another part of it.

Check out I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise.

Lyrics:

I'll build a stairway to Paradise
With a new step ev'ry day !
I'm gonna get there at any price;
Stand aside, I'm on my way !

I've got the blues
And up above it's so fair.
Shoes ! Go on and carry me there !
I'll build a stairway to Paradise
With a new step ev'ry day.

Georges Guetary is fabulous

@edgarblythe,
Loved that one by The Cure, edgar. Having looked at the lyrics, Robert Smith must have been inspired by this lady.

Christina Rossetti
Remember

REMEMBER me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Hmmm. It seem that Greg is NO angel as he is recovering from the surgery. Smile

Actually, edgar, that short story simply reflects what many believe to be a flash of insight and happiness before they die. Read Horseman in the Sky sometimes, Texas.

Having shown Roberta a pink dolphin, I found this song. I saw it in the days when I had a crush on Alan Ladd. Here is the song from it.

@edgarblythe,
Wow! Fantastic, edgar. You reminded of this beautiful hymn that we used to sing in the choir.

Well, well. That's in B flat. Perhaps I should try that one on piano.

Love this quote by Joseph Addison.

A cloudy day or a little sunshine have as great an influence on many constitutions as the most recent blessings or misfortunes.

mark noble started a thread with this phrase "Patriotism Is The Virtue Of The Viscious...", it brought to mind this Billy Bragg song

At night the Baby Brotherhood and the Inter City Crew
Fill their pockets up with calling cards
And paint their faces red white and blue
Then they go out seeking different coloured faces
And anyone else that they can scare
And they salute the foes their fathers fought
By waving their right arms in the air
Oh look how my country's patriots are hunting down below
What do they know of England who only England know

From the stands of the Empire Stadium
Come the heralds of the New Dark Age
With the simplicities of bigotry
And to whom all the world's a stage
These little John Bullshits know that the press
Will glorify their feats
So that the general public fear them
And the authorities say give 'em all seats
And the wasted seed of the bulldog breed
Is chanting here we go
What do they know of England who only England know

Our neighbours shake their heads
And take their valuables inside
While my countrymen piss in the fountains
To express our national pride
And to prove to the world that England
Is just as rotten as she looks
They repeat the lies that caught their eyes
At school in history books
But the wars they think they're fighting
Were all over long ago
What do they know of England who only England know

And the society that spawned them
Just cries out Who's to blame?
And then wraps itself in the Union Jack
And just carries on the same
Oh look out, my country's patriots are hunting down below
What do they know of England
What do they know of England
What do they know of England who only England know
