I remember hearing Candice Bergan on her father's radio show. They called her 'Candy' then, but she changed it back to Candice when she grew older.

This song seems appropriate for the times. I also put it on my Songs that Tell Stories thread.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, that was a great story telling song. The Oilman has about the same job as the coal miner. Thanks for that one by Waylon Jennings and the Scruggs band, Texas.

Here's one to match, folks. I remember it so well and was supposed to read it at a forensic competition and awakened with the German measles. Frankly, I was rather glad because I got a bit of stage fright in those teenage days.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Phil Ochs was much better. Should we combine the visuals on my presentation with his voice, that would have been a terrific production. Thanks for that, Texas.

Well, today is Albert Finney's birthday, and I decided that it was best just to stick with a musical tribute. I was going to do him in Winston Churchill, but decided that it was a bit risque. (funny, however) I did have to giggle at my friend Mary J. who went to see Tom Jones with a minister.

The tribute:

@edgarblythe,
Sean Connery did that? I am truly amazed. I was also nonplussed at the fact that although he is Scottish, he did an Irish tune. I did find out that there's an ancient connection between the Scots and the Celts.

Another surprise, folks. Sean played the bagpipes in The Longest Day.

Look carefully and you'll see and hear him.

I had to do more research. He was Pvt. Flannigan in the movie

That was the first song I heard from Tom Jones. The instant I heard his voice, I predicted he would be a star.
The one with the dogs is kind of cute.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning WA2K radio and edgar. Love High Heel Sneakers, buddy. Great one by Jerry Lee. Lena Horne is fabulous. Stormy Weather is also a great song. What a woman! She lived life to the fullest.

Thanks, Texas.

Today is Donovan's birthday, folks, so let's hear one by him.

Donovan - Happy Birthday, dude.
Miller's Cave by Jerry Reed.

There are several versions of this song. The one I like best, by Tommy Tucker, is not available on utub.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks, edgar, for those moments in history.

Hey, buddy, I thought Donovan's theory via music was something to think about.

I liked Miller's Cave by Jerry. Who else was it that hid in a cave. Robert the Bruce? Wonder if the theory of a spider was true?

I never see Churchill that I don't think of Shaw.

George Bernard Shaw

George Bernard Shaw telegrammed Winston Churchill just prior to the opening of Major Barbara: "Have reserved two tickets for first night. Come and bring a friend if you have one."

Churchill wired back, "Impossible to come to first night. Will come to second night, if you have one."

Your song Miller's Cave inspired me to find this one.

and since it's Fred Astaire's birthday, here's a tribute to that wonderful singer and dancer.

@edgarblythe,
Colorado Kool Aid was funny, edgar. Wonder where Gargamel is?

Speaking of "Red" folks, here's Willie to sing one that I like.

It's seems that Robert the Bruce's encounter with a spider in a cave may be legend.
