@edgarblythe,
edgar, I just looked at the soundtrack from Sgt. York and I knew almost ever song. Guess that is because my dad was in WWI.

I always thought that this one was from WWII.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QJpgNQtTRE&feature=related

and the lyrics, y'all.

Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.
Don't let your joy and laughter hear the snag
Smile boys, that's the style
What's the use of worrying
It never was worth while
So, pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.

(Musical Interlude)

Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.
Just pucker up and whistle (Whistle)
(Whistling)
What's the use of worrying
It never was worth while
So, pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.

Had no idea that Spike Jones changed it to read.

"...while you've a lucifer to light your fag..."

Double oops. Missed your Eddie Hodges song, Texas. Don't know it but it was cute.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with one from Johannes Brahms. (nope, not his lullaby) His birthday is today.

Maybe our Urs will translate this for us tomorrow.

I don't know a lot about Brahms, but I like all of his music, thus far.

Good morning, edgar. Loved the Cohen song, "Bird on a Wire." The idea that he is talking about people who have tried to be free is captivating. Thanks, buddy.

Good afternoon, Brit. First, I really like the song Yellow by Coldplay. Had to look up the muppet, "beaker". I can see why you like him, buddy.

People never cease to amaze me. A man who makes an ark out of plastic bottles is a jaw dropper. Thanks for that news item. Messing About on the River was great, and I especially liked the expression, "..the right way to fail..."

Today is Enrique Iglesias' birthday, and although I like the song better in Spanish. (the sound of it, ya know) I'm going to play this one by him because it speaks to all of us.

Letty, I would translate if I had any idea what this means! Yes, it is German. But I don't even understand the title! It is really old fashioned German. Sorry!

@urs53,
Thanks anyway, Urs. I thought perhaps it was some sort of night music, but I did find one interpretation: Let nothing ever grieve you; God will be there for you.

Well, today is Ricky Nelson's birthday so here is one of my favorites by that young man who died too soon.

@edgarblythe,
Ozzie and Harriet featured Rock Hudson? My word, Texas. I certainly don't remember him. (as a matter of fact, I don't recall any of those episodes)

Didn't know Julio did Patsy's Crazy either, but thanks for the memory jog, edgar.

Well, today is Melissa Gilbert's birthday so here is a tribute to her and the theme from Little House on the Prarie. Need to check out The Waltons next, folks.

Strange, I recall the themes better than the episodes.

@edgarblythe,
Bird on the Wire began in Greece, when Cohen first arrived in Hydra, there were no wires on the island, no telephones and no regular electricity. But soon telephone poles appeared, and then the wires. I would stare out the window at these telephone wires and think, how civilization had caught up with me and I wasn't going to be able to escape after all. I wasn't going to be able to live this eleventh-century life that I had thought I had found for myself. So that was the beginning. Then he noticed that the birds came to the wires. The next line referred to the many evenings Cohen and friends climbed the endless stairs up from the port of Hydra, drunk and singing. Often you see: three guys with the arms around each other , stumbling up the stairs and singing these impeccable thirds. He finished the song in a Hollywood motel on Sunset Boulevard in 1969.
My personal favorite version of "Bird" is from the less well-known LP "Live Songs" recorded live in Paris and partly sung in French.

@dyslexia,
I have both albums. I think I favor the version I played because I had been listening to it a long time before Live Songs was released.

Melissa Gilbert has been in Houston in a musical stage version of Little House. The production got poor reviews.

@edgarblythe,
Oh, I didn't know that about Ozzie and Harriet, edgar. Well, trying to bring something back to life after a long absence doesn't always work.Guess that's why Little House didn't do so well.

Today is Toni Tennille's birthday and although I have only heard Love Will Keep us Together by her and The Captain, here's a nice surprise, y'all. A duet with Dusty. (original by Tina Turner)
