@Rockhead,
Mornin' to you, Mooseman. Ah, yes, buddy, Merle and The Workin' Man's Blues. As I have often observed, the real slave is the poor workin' man. Thanks for that reminder.

Today is Billy Dee Williams' birthday, so here is an interesting take on the Ewoks. Hmmm. Strange that Georgeob 1 returned to us on this particular occasion, y'all. <big smile here>

I would have preferred to play his Motown tribute, but it was too commercial. (Time Warner and all)

@edgarblythe,
I didn't either, edgar. Barely remember the original Star Wars, but I wanted something as a tribute to Billy Dee.

Never heard The Sky Fell Over Me by Toy Guns, Texas. Thanks for the introduction.

Well, today is our Francis' birthday so here is a great McCartney song for him.

Sir Paul has quite an imagination. Patti LuPone comes to mind at this time.

Here's something familiar, but performed in the original setting: from Rimsky Korsakov's opera (1890s) , Sadko, the tale of an adverturer from Nizni Novograd who returns a wealthy man after adventures around the world. The Song of the Indian Guest ....

Thanks, dys, for Janis and Bob.

More bad news, y'all.

Heavy rains swamp Rio, killing at least 81
Weather Forecast Video:National Forecast weather.com
By BRADLEY BROOKS, Associated Press Writers Bradley Brooks, Associated Press Writers " 1 hr 57 mins ago
RIO DE JANEIRO " Torrential rains in Rio de Janeiro have triggered landslides that killed 81 people as rising water paralyzed traffic and suspended most business.
The ground gave way in steep hillside slums, cutting red-brown paths of destruction through shantytowns. Concrete and wooden homes were crushed and hurtled downhill, only to bury other structures.
The future host city of the Olympics and football World Cup ground to a near halt Tuesday as Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes urged workers to stay home and closed all schools.
He said more rain was expected and urged people living in high-risk areas not to leave their homes. Potential mudslides threatened at least 2,000 homes after eight inches (20 centimeters) of rain fell.
"It is not advisable for people to leave their homes," said Paes. "We want to preserve lives."

We're thinking about you.

Like the song of the Indian Guest. Claudia Telles sings about Brazil very well. And anything by Bob and Janis is all right with me.
There was another mine tragedy in the news yesterday. For them, here is a Merle Travis song, as made famous by Tennessee Ernie.

@edgarblythe,
Wow!, I never heard Gandy Dancer's Ball, edgar. Great one by Frankie.

I also noticed that he did this one, y'all. Here it is with English lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KMVtuURwjY&feature=related

Rose, Rose I love you with an aching heart
What is your future now we have to part
Standing on the jetty
As the steamer moves away
Flower of Malaya I can not stay

Make way, oh make way
For my eastern Rose
Men crowd in dozens, ev'rywhere she goes
In her rick'shaw on the street
Or in the cabaret
Please make way for Rose
You can hear them say

All my life, I shall remember
Oriental music and you in my arms
Perfumed flowers in your tresses
Lotus scented breezes and swaying palms

Rose, Rose I love you

With your almond eyes
Fragrant and slender'neath tropical skies
I must cross the seas again
And never see you more
Way back to my home on a distant shore

Repeat chorus

UFOs blamed for Shropshire sheep deaths

UFOs blamed for Shropshire (UK) sheep deaths

A man has claimed that sheep in Shropshire have been killed and mutilated by extra-terrestrials.

Retired steelworker Phil Hoyle, 53, co-founder of the Animal Pathology Field Unit (APFU), linked UFO sightings to the alleged recent death of livestock in the area.

Describing a supposed eyewitness report of alien craft zapping the sheep, Hoyle told The Sun: "For a short while it looked more like a Star Wars battle."

He claimed that the following day he interviewed local farmers and that "all but one had had some type of unusual disappearance of animals or deaths with strange injuries".

"Animals are being clinically and surgically sampled by a highly advanced technology," he added. "The technology involved in these attacks is frightening.

"These lights and spheres are clearly not ours. They are built by technology and intelligence that's not from here."

The APFU argues that a 50-mile corridor between Shrewsbury and Powys is a major site for such incidents, with affected animals being found with neat holes in their corpses and their internal organs or skin removed.

@Barry The Mod,

Go on with you, Bazza. What a strange thing.

Do you know who I like as a singer, and she was a big band singer before she was a comedy actress and a professional virgin?

Doris Day.

I think the job she does on "Move Over, Darling" is just great.
