@Letty,
The trainers were allowed to get careless with that whale. Something I just can't see.

@edgarblythe,
Wild things in captivity don't often do as they are told, edgar. What is eerie is that the public can't wait to see the Orcas perform again.

I'm certain that most of our contributors failed to note Marion Anderson's tribute, but here is another to a birthday boy.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etw1j8GfYR4&feature=related

And the poem

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Hymn to the Night

I heard the trailing garments of the Night
Sweep through her marble halls!
I saw her sable skirts all fringed with light
From the celestial walls!

I felt her presence, by its spell of might,
Stoop o'er me from above;
The calm, majestic presence of the Night,
As of the one I love.

I heard the sounds of sorrow and delight,
The manifold, soft chimes,
That fill the haunted chambers of the Night
Like some old poet's rhymes.

From the cool cisterns of the midnight air
My spirit drank repose;
The fountain of perpetual peace flows there,--
From those deep cisterns flows.

O holy Night! from thee I learn to bear
What man has borne before!
Thou layest thy finger on the lips of Care,
And they complain no more.

Peace! Peace! Orestes-like I breathe this prayer!
Descend with broad-winged flight,
The welcome, the thrice-prayed for, the most fair,
The best-beloved Night!

I guess one of my favorites is Evangeline.

I like My Lord What a Morning. I have more than one recording of it by other artists.
Happy bday to Longfellow, a worthy poet.

Hymn to the Night makes a fine song. I love his I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, as sung by Harry Belafonte

I just learned that Marie's son has committed suicide.

@edgarblythe,
Love that song by Andy and Marie, Texas. I did a quick search and found stuff that I didn't want to know

I had forgotten that Andy was a member of the BeeGees.

Poor Marie. What a difficult life she has had. As did this lady. Beauty is often a detriment, but it's her birthday.

Tribute to her, y'all.

I have always liked Liz Taylor, though not always respecting her life choices (which were none of my business anyway). One of her more noteworthy features has been the beauty of her eyes - Which are not green, but the subject of this next song is a green eyed lady.

@edgarblythe,
Really like that "Green Eyed Lady, Lovely Lady" by Sugarloaf, edgar. Especially like that minor key.

Here's one to match, Texas.

My oldest sister says that "green" is a recessive gene. Odd, my eye color is blue green. At least that's what I see when I look in the mirror.

@George,
Welcome back, Latin George. You are right, buddy. Those two are amazing. Sent me to the archives again.

Rodrigo y Gabriela (Rodrigo and Gabriela) are a Mexican musical duo who specialize in playing fast, rhythmic acoustic guitars. The duo's members are Rodrigo Sánchez, lead guitar, and Gabriela Quintero, rhythm guitar.

The musicians gained a reputation by playing in the pubs and bars of Dublin, and despite their unusual style, gained a cult following. Reviewing one of their gigs, The Independent notes that "Rodrigo y Gabriela's secret is maybe quite simple. They are resourceful musicians who can really play, and open-hearted, happy entertainers. That, very often, is what people want"

Thanks for the introduction

Here's one to match.

I used to call that flamingo guitar.

@edgarblythe,
Love that one by Charlie Pride, Texas.

No, I'm not going to San Antone, but I'm going to bed a little bit sad 'cause the thumbs are back; however, I did get a couple of warm hugs so I'm not cold anymore.

My goodnight song from one of my favorite classical composers. His life was so tragic, but his music lives on.

@Barry The Mod,
Good morning, WA2K folks

Thanks for the goodnight songs, Brit. Don't know Toots and The Maytals' Broadway Jungle, but I know the song California Dreaming, just not by Bobby Womack.

I was awakened this morning by a TCM starring Ingrid Bergman and Leslie Howard. This was the song that they played, but first, a link to the movie, y'all.

Now, the classical piece.

Hmmm, it ends rather abruptly, but the rest is quite clear.

Reminded of Chanticleer, "the herald of the dawn"

@Letty,
Gooooood Morning Letty!!

I recently returned to following the great philosophers, Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers, AKA Tom and Ray Magliozzi, after several years of auditorial absence.

So, presently I'm listening to this week's Car Talk podcast:
http://www.cartalk.com/Radio/WeeklyShow/online.html

Please forgive this New Englander's prodigal absence. I shall never stray again.

Quote:

Domestic "In-tranquility"

This week on Car Talk, all is not quiet on home fronts across the land. For starters, Kay in Colorado is fretting about the state of her Ford Explorer after her daughter accidentally left it running overnight. Meanwhile, that sound you hear from Michigan is the electric door locks in Carole's daughter's Dodge Aries. They won't stop going up and down, and up and down, even when the car is off. And, from Chicago, we hear the dulcet tones of Kris and her husband arguing over who's the rightful owner of a recently shoveled parking space. Also, from the "no good deed goes unpunished" department, Dennis is getting tired of washing his wife's car and having it not start the next day. Even the puzzler gets in on the familial action, as Ray goes to his sister's aid. All this and more on this week's encore edition of Car Talk.

@Letty,
letty
enjoyed the schuman last night.
Have not seen Intermezzo, but I think I would like it.
Those young musicians in the last piece are very professional, to my untrained ear.

tsar, Welcome back. Those Click and Clack segments were hilarious. Especially like the one on definitions.Thanks, buddy.

edgar, once again, thanks for giving our music contributions recognition. That funny parody on Strauss was fantastic. Elmer Fudd was a great conductor. Thanks for the smile, Texas.

Don't know this guy, but today is his birthday, and of all things, his last name is a great combination on car and toon. Razz
