@edgarblythe,
edgar, Judy Collins' tribute to her father was awesome, and of course, "the jester"Visions of Johanna was a great one. Never heard it, but it reflects Bob Dylan at his best.

Speaking of Blonde on Blonde, y'all. Today is Betty Hutton's birthday, so here is a great one by her.

The British papers and scads of American blogs (including a sheepish VF Daily) that reported on David Geffen’s alleged vanity are now singing a different tune. As ShowBiz411 reports: “David Geffen had nothing to do with Carly Simon in 1972. He ran Asylum Records. She was on Elektra. Jac Holzman ran Elektra and was in charge of the album ‘No Secrets’ and the song ‘You’re So Vain.’ It wasn’t until the next year that Elektra was merged with Asylum. In 1974, Carly released another album, called ‘Hot Cakes,’ on Elektra. Joni Mitchell released ‘Court and Spark.’” Well then! Time to retire Geffen’s new epithet.

Rumors indicating Geffen was the subject of the song surfaced after Simon revealed that on a recently recorded version of the song, she recites (backward) the name of its inspiration. One of these names is David. However, ShowBiz411 also spoke with someone who worked on the production of the song who says that Simon also says two other names: one that’s unintelligible, and “Warren,” an obvious reference to 29th President of the United States, Warren G. Harding.

@panzade,
That's the way that song should sound. The Dale and Grace version had a schizophrenic quality to it.

Good morning WA2K folks.

edgar, Thanks for the retraction concerning Carley. That version of Little Richard's Send me some Lovin' was different. Didn't sound like the Richard that I remember. Really loved that "..mountain of love.." by Harold Dorman. Thanks, Texas.

I remember Don and Dewey's Leavin' it all up to You. Really enjoyed listening.

Rock, " Nice tires"? made me smile, Goober.

Hey, Brit. Labi Siffre's Make my Day was fabulous. Thanks.

My gawd, the world is turned upside down, folks.

Shamu, Orca/killer whale killed his trainer.

and a strange one from David Bowie that I heard on Medium last evening.

Won't bother to explain the plot, let's just say that the bad guy got away with his crime.

Here is a tribute to John Steinbeck whose birthday is today.

Not sure I would have selected that song for the Steinbeck tribute, but I am a large fan. Some of his short stories do not have what for me would be a good resolution and for some reason did not care for Travels With Charley. But everything else I have read of his is top notch. Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men inparticular.

I fail to understand why a killer whale is allowed contact with people after that one's violent history.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, the trainers are NOT allowed to swim with the Orcas, but the lady's pony tail is what the killer went for.

Loved Little Richard's Lucille, buddy.

I wouldn't have selected Willie either for Steinbeck's tribute, but I couldn't find a better tribute.

Frankly, I liked The Pearl, Texas, and of course, Of Mice and Men was great. The best laid plans of mice and men, etc.

I recall Travels with Charlie. That was his dog, right?

Today is Marion Anderson's birthday, and I love this one by her.

She brought the black woman a long way. The DAR refused to let her sing in their hall, so Eleanor Roosevelt resigned from that orginazaion. Loved the end of Stan Freberg's Album when he slammed the door in the face of a rep.
