The reason Sam hated that song, he had been drafted. To him, that was the equivalent of getting kidnapped. He was in danger of getting killed for a war he felt he had no stake in fighting. So, he hears this song, incessantly:
I'm a soldier
A lonely soldier
Away from home
Through no wish of my own
That's why I'm lonely
I'm Mr Lonely
I wish that I could go back home.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, thanks for the further info, buddy. I agree with Sam on that one.

Dod Severenson sat in with Bud's trio when they played at Glade Springs.

Well, y'all, today is Florence Henderson's birthday. Remember this TV show?

@edgarblythe,
Funny, edgar. That's the only thing I could think of to play for Florence's birthday.

Here's another birthday girl.

@edgarblythe,
Love LuLu, edgar. Thanks for that one by her. I recall To Sir With Love, however.

Wow! Just found out that Meg Tilly starred in the movie The Girl in a Swing. Shocked

I read that book ages ago. Hebba was the first to respond.

This is not a happy song. I find it poignant. Caution: it uses a swear word.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar. Eels Little Bird was sad. Don't know him but I did like the song. Thanks for the introduction.(well, of course, none of us here has ever heard a curse word)

Speaking of birds, does anyone remember this one?

What a name, folks, McFly. Love it!

@Letty,
UhOh, Letty's talking to herself again. Where's Tai Chi when you need her.

Merry Andrew just informed us it's the Chinese New Year so let's hear one for the tiger.

I like Rockin Robin, but not McFly.
Eye on the Tiger reminds me of Rocky movies.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't much like the version by McFly either, but it's the only one that I could find that didn't bring back old memories.

Love that one by Dolly, Texas. "Here you Come Again" leads to this one by "old blue eyes".

"...here I go again; I hear those trumpets blow again.."

@edgarblythe,
Listened twice to that one, edgar. The Kingston Trio did it well, but Sinatra does it better, methinks.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with Nat (back to the birds again)

And Peggy Lee, y'all.
