edgar, loved Buddy's Ting a Ling. Thanks, Texas.

JPB, John, Paul, and Leroy were awesome. Never heard them before. Thanks, squirrel, for The American Tune.

Going to say goodnight a wee bit early tonight so that I can spend some time with my daughter, y'all

Miss yitwail, but I recall that honu played this song because it was a play on my name.

he went from The Telling Turtle to heralding honu.

Bet the mooseman will be back tomorrow.

as always,

From Letty with love

When Paul McCartny wrote Let it Be, he was trying to emulate Paul Simon's Bridge Over Troubled Water. As fine a song as Let it Be turned out, I don't think it matched Simon's tune.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, I had no idea that the Beatles were attempting to copy Paul's Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Thanks for the info, Texas. Love that one, too.

Rex, my favs of yours were Bread's If and Eleanor Rigby.

Hey, Brit. Thanks for the info on Vic Flick's James Bond theme. Great! and Headlong by Queen was a new one to me, London.

Today is Roger Miller's birthday, so how about a tribute by a trio. Boy, I most certainly did not recognize one Van Gogh painting, y'all.

I loved both Old Friends and Husbands and Wives. The Van Gogh backdrop to Old Friends was lovely. I haven't listened to any RM in years and, probably like most people, usually think of King of the Road when I think of him. Scrolling through the related videos of the two above brought up many songs I've never heard of. I think I'll be listening to a lot of them today. Thanks, Letty and edgar.

Here's another... I like looking at pictures of flowers when it's a winter wonderland and below zero outside.

One of Roger Miller's most beautiful songs, "River in the Rain" was written for "Big River," a Broadway musical based on "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," by Mark Twain. "Big River" won seven Tony Awards, including one for Roger Miller's score.

@JPB,
I'm loving this exploration through Roger's music...

A tossed-off rendition of one of the 20th Century's most brilliant and underrated songwriters' loveliest compositions. By all accounts as lovely (and complicated) a man as he was talented a performer.

Wow! I had no idea that Roger Miller did so many lovely songs, y'all.

Thanks to edgar and JPB for the discovery. Especially surprised at River in the Rain since I love Mark Twain and had no idea that it was a musical. Yep, Huck Finn was one that I read as a child.

Today is Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s birthday, and I realize that he won an academy award for Jerry McGuire, but don't think I saw it.

Here is a song by him, but if he is among the vocalists, I missed it.

First, the song.

Now the trailer to A Murder of Crows. (used to think that meant killing crows)

Yeah, Roger was a far greater talent than many folks realize.

Arlo Guthrie has a son. I didn't know.

@edgarblythe,
I liked the 1:30 intro just as much as the song, and I liked the song a LOT.
