LAS VEGAS - Garth Brooks mused that the public may have moved on when he announced he was coming out of retirement.

Was he ever wrong.

Tickets for Brooks' first 20 shows at the Wynn Las Vegas resort sold out in less than five hours. The resort says in a statement released Saturday afternoon that the resort reached its maximum capacity for callers at 141,934 and those who called in after got busy signals.

Officials say the ticket Web site had more than 5.4 million page views with 40,000 waiting to buy tickets online at one point.

Brooks announced a five-year deal with casino owner Steve Wynn last week that will include 15 weeks of shows in the Encore theater, which seats about 1,500. All tickets were $125 plus fees.

The best-selling solo act in history will play shows Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of select weeks beginning Dec. 11.

@edgarblythe,
Mornin', WA2K radio and edgar.

Thanks for the info on Garth, Texas. Loved "The River" and especially the visuals. Made me think of Virginia again.

er, was that Chris singing Garth, or Garth singing Chris?

A couple of songs for today, y'all.

First, it's Helen Reddy's birthday, so here is a tribute to an Aussie.

and now, an Oriental guy sings Jim Croce. Love it!

This is a test; should it have been a real emergency, you would have been notified.

Garth made a disasterous album, in which he called himself Chris Gains. Even the music was different.

The Jim Croce song cover was a good one, letty. Helen has been at it a long time. Every time I think of her, I hear in my mind: "I am woman, hear me roar."

edgar, That was truly wonderful. I recall John Donne's "Death Be Not Proud" and "No Man is an Island", but not that love poem set to music. The visuals were awesome, too. Thanks!

Mr. Wizard, I didn 't see one pit bull in that Mahler, buddy. Razz

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" is the title and principal lyric of a song by musician Bobby McFerrin. Released in September 1988, it became the first a cappella song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a position it held for two weeks. On the UK Singles Chart, the song reached number 2 during its fifth week on the chart. At the 1989 Grammy Awards, "Don't Worry Be Happy" won the awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The song's title is taken from a famous quote by Meher Baba. The original music video stars Robin Williams and Bill Irwin. The "instrumentals" in the a cappella song are entirely overdubbed voice parts and other sounds made by McFerrin, using no instruments at all.

Welcome back, Mooseman. Thanks for the "Don't Worry" song and edgar's info about same.

edgar, That was a great song by Garland Jeffrey's. Listened twice. Thanks. Ah the matadors of Mexico.

annis, Welcome to WA2K radio. Blue Moon by Ella was excellent. The best that I have ever heard her sing. What a voice and no scat on that one.

Hope our squirrel arrives back safely and our Brit is enjoying his weekend at Greenwich.

Although I don't know this guy, y'all, it's his birthday and the visuals are calming.

Sing about a good day, Jon. (used to be with the group YES)

@Letty,
The last movement begins rather darkly, a kind of funeral march derived from, believe it or not, Frere Jaca. Then there is the redemption and the release from fear that nature can bring -- as Dudamel stated in his interview, this Mahler particularly begins with the first not and the gradually builds to the climactic final note. I think the Second, The Resurrection, has Christ rising from the tomb just once too often.

@Lightwizard,
Hey, Mr. Wizard. This one is not by our same conductor, but it illustrates what you mean.

@Letty,
I remember seeing all the Young People's Concerts Bernstein made with the NY Phil for TV, I think broadcast by CBS in the 50's or 60's -- there are now on DVD as a set. However, the sound is really bad, bad, bad -- I believe the original tapes were mono.
