Foxy, I am always intrigued by women who enjoy sports. Went to a couple of football games at UVA. One was between Va. Tech and the Cavaliers. Forgot who won.

Actually a lot of us gals follow a lot of sports pretty closely though admittedly we might not be as fanatical as a lot of guys who follow sports. No offense guys but I live with a sports fanatic. . . Smile

Kenny Chesny was commissioned to do the pre-football game music for ESPN this year. It's pretty universal that the fans are less than impressed. Smile

Foxy, that was a funny and thank God brief sports song. Ah, when I was in high school the mark of being popular was to wear a football players' sweater.

Been searching for Bill Monroe and ran across the Stanley Bros which, in turn, let me to the REAL Soggy Bottom boys.

Hey, Brit, never saw that series, but I read ALL the Nancy Drew books when I was a kid.

edgar, missed that sweet song by Christie, "Shake me I Rattle". You're right. She did sound a lot like Patti Page.

Also, folks, found out that Matt Dennis was a contemporary of Bobby Troup and found the song that Bud used to play all the time.

First, The Soggy Bottom Boys. (remember George Clooney doing that great lip sync in O Brother Where Art Thou?)

Now, Matt Dennis' song as done by a great jazz man.

For the lyrics, choose any of those guys/gals who did it.

@Letty,
I got the Shaun song to play, letty. I recall the song.
Soggy Bottom Boys - Man of Constant Sorrow's a good song.
Thelonius Monk - always good.

@edgarblythe,
Went out to eat tonight, and it was wonderful. Sitting on the deck; listening to the music.

edgar, I knew before I looked that up that Freddy had to be kin to Nat, and I was right. Had no idea that Nat had a younger brother. Wonderful song, buddy, and thanks for the beauty of the music replete with lyrics.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do so with a classic by Beethoven.

To all of you,

From Letty with love

The first time I heard Freddy Cole's voice, I was listening to the radio. I heard him sing You Are the Sunshine of My Life. At first, I thought it was Nat, until I realized, he died before that song was written. But then the DJ told us it was Freddy, Nat's brother.

Good night from New Mexico one and all as I can't write another paragraph before I sleep. But I just had to post this someplace, so, speaking of voices and music, I'll leave you with this. You haven't heard falsetto until you've heard this guy sing falsetto:

Good morning, WA2K radio folks.

edgar, that version of September in the Rain was fine until it got to the bridge. The chord changes were not what I am used to hearing, Texas, but thanks for the nice memory.

Foxy, What a total shock to hear that kid sound like a female opera diva. I had to smile.

When I was a kid and heard the term, "skeleton key", you can imagine what I thought. Then I watched this movie the other evening and it was scary.

The ending was a good/bad one, and quite a shocker. In my opinion, that is what qualifies this flic as excellent.

Today is Koko Taylor's birthday, and although I have never heard of the lady, this is the perfect song to match that movie, y'all.

@Letty,
I always enjoy the songs of the WWI era, letty. WWII, also. I had heard of Koko Taylor somewhere, but don't recall hearing her before. Never saw the Skeleton Key.

Well, the weather is slowly changing. I'm in the mood.

@edgarblythe,
Vaguely remember some of the lyrics to that one, edgar. Use to entertain at the American Legion, and played many of those WWII songs. "Mr. Whatcha Call it Whatcha doing tonight". Glen's body was never found. Bud told me that a friend of his said that Glen was killed by a jealous lover.

Here's an interesting mix. Although Irving Berlin meant this as a WWI song, it came from a WWII movie.

@edgarblythe,
Love In the Still of the Night, edgar, but I am not too fond of Johnny's rendition. Just noticed that he did many jazz ballads. Great! You were the first to tell me that he did one of my favs, When Sunny Gets Blue.

Here's the first one that I ever heard by him, folks, and I still love it.

What a smooth voice he had.
