My word, folks, it was Jim Nabors who imitated Cary Grant. I had forgotten the man.

Here's a song by him and Vikki Carr, y'all.

@edgarblythe,
oops, I thought Gomer had done the Judy bit, edgar. Thanks for the correction.

Jim Nabors had a beautiful voice, right?

I had no idea Vikki Carr was Mexican. Here's one of my favs by her.

Nabors sang great. And after all these years, Vikki's still got it.
Now, going to 1951, this is Tommy Edwards

@edgarblythe,
Wow, edgar. That was a great song by Tommy and I just found out he was from Richmond, Virginia. I think Louis Armstrong sang that one as well.

In searching out F. Scott Fitzgerald, I ran across this song from The Great Gatsby. Irving Berlin lived to be 102. What a composer, folks.

I didn't know that song was associated with that film, letty. It's one of the great ones, for sure.

I got Leadbelly here.

@edgarblythe,
I didn't know that song was related to the movie either, edgar. I was trying to find a trailer to the movie and the theme was playing in the background.

I love that song by Leadbelly; I noticed that Johnny Cash did The Rock Island Line as well. More history in a song.

Today is Kevin Sorbo's birthday, and I vaguely recall him doing Hercules so let's listen to more mythology.

A song for fall

Michael Bolton does that song very well, letty. When he made his first hit records, I did not care for him. But, now he sounds pretty good.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, Grandpa Jones. What a talent and I was given to understand that he could also play jazz piano, but I can't locate the source.

Yep, I agree about Michael Bolton; don't know is we change or they do.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think I shall do so with two songs, y'all.

First, since it's Anthony Newley's birthday, how about a little of "Stop the World I Want to get off".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo1T0jwxZMo

and, one of my favorite songs, folks.

Good morning, WA2K.

edgar, I love that clip from Oliver Twist. Didn't recognize Anthony Newley as "the artful dodger"; great and thanks.

Ah, the Brit is off to see the world.

Thanks for Tony and Shirley. They make a great duo, and I love "Personality."

Wow! Audrey Morris is a fantastic jazz singer. Great introduction, Brit.

Well, y'all, there's no morning dew here, but I love this song.

and our poem for today is by Bliss Carmen.

A Vagabond Song
By Bliss Carman
1861-1929

There is something in the autumn that is native to my blood --
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.

The scarlet of the maples can shake me like a cry
Of bugles going by.
And my lonely spirit thrills
To see the frosty asters like a smoke upon the hills.

There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by name.

Enjoyed the M Douglas tribute. I have grown to enjoy his performances more these days than when he was young.

@edgarblythe,
I never quite understood, Walk Me Out in the Morning Dew, edgar. I played it simply for it's visuals. Thanks, for your honest evaluation.

Well, as you know, I never hear Buddy Holly that I don't think of The Crickets. Thanks for that one, buddy.

Today is Christopher Reeves' birthday, and what a tragic event, folks. He had surgery at the University of Virginia.

Remembering you, Superman.
