Good afternoon, evening, listeners.

First let me tell our Raggedy that I enjoyed looking at the pictures of Jack, Glen, and Eddie, and we all continue to appreciate her diligence in the celeb section of our show.

Bob, great songs that fit right in with the theme. Thanks, Boston. I always liked Wichita Lineman and Galveston by Glen as well.

edgar, I don't know that lead in line that is a clue to your second song, but I am totally fascinated with McTag's link to Scarborough Fair and had absolutely no idea of the historical background. Thanks, Brit.

Now let's see, audience. What is this llama line that McTag has supplied? Need to think it through.

For all the linemen who are in love:

I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin' in the wire, I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation but it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south won't ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line

And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time
And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line

Well, Bob. It may having something to do with an odd duck, but here is the song that completes McTag's daffy llama:

"Come Fly With Me"

Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
If you can use some exotic booze
There's a bar in far Bombay
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away

Come fly with me, let's float down to Peru
In llama land there's a one-man band
And he'll toot his flute for you
Come fly with me, let's take off in the blue

Once I get you up there where the air is rarified
We'll just glide, starry-eyed
Once I get you up there I'll be holding you so near
You may hear angels cheer 'cause we're together

Weather-wise it's such a lovely day
You just say the words and we'll beat the birds
Down to Acapulco Bay
It's perfect for a flying honeymoon, they say
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away

Once I get you up there where the air is rarified
We'll just glide, starry-eyed
Once I get you up there I'll be holding you so near
You may hear angels cheer 'cause we're together

Weather-wise it's such a lovely day
You just say the words and we'll beat the birds
Down to Acapulco Bay
It's perfect for a flying honeymoon, they say
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly
Pack up, let's fly away!!

My line:

the monkey told the buzzard you are chockin' me

Straighten Up And Fly Right
(Nat King Cole/ Irving Mills)

A buzzard took the monkey for a ride in the air
The monkey thought that everything was on the square
The buzzard tried to throw the monkey off his back
But the monkey grabbed his neck
And said listen up Jack

Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down papa don't blow your top
Ain't any use in divin 'what's the use in jivin'
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down papa don't blow your top

The buzzard told the monkey you are choking me
Release your hold and I will set you free
The monkey looked the buzzard right dead in the eye
He said your story's so touching but it sounds like a lie

Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down papa don't blow your top

Listeners, isn't it permissable to take a peek?

Well Bob most certainly got Nat Cole's way-back-when song.

Written by Robert B. Sherman
With tuppence for paper and strings,
you can have your own set of wings.
With your feet on the ground,
your a bird in flight!
With your fist holding tight,
to the string of your kite!

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!

When you send it flying up there,
all at once you're lighter than air!
You can dance on the breeze,
over 'ouses and trees!
With your fist 'olding tight,
to the string your kite!

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!

why the god's above me who must be in the know

and while our staff/audience mulls that line over, a brief movie blurb.

"Close Your Eyes" is an eerie movie set in London, England. It involves a doctor who does hypnosis to cure smoking addicts and leads to strange and ancient rites of the occult type. Worth watching, folks.

Je suis fatigue. A simple line from the movie with terrible import.

Sing one for me, Bob.

and the same to you, honey.

Well, listeners, as the darkness settles across our peninsula, we hear the frogs rappin' in the canal, and a night bird answers with a low uncertainty.

Time for nocturnes........................................................

I've been humming this tune all day... Smile

America
Simon and Garfunkel

Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner's pies
And we walked off to look for America
Cathy I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America
Laughing on the bus playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera
Toss me a cigaret I think there's one in the raincoat
We smoked the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenary she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field
Cathy I'm lost I said though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America
All come to look for America

This originally appeared on Bob's album, Freewheelin.
Not too many years later, Bob teamed up with Johnny Cash to duet same on the album, Nashville Skyline. Note the last line of the first verse.

Girl of the North Country - Bob Dylan

Well, if you're travelin' in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm,
To keep her from the howlin' winds.

Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
If it rolls and flows all down her breast.
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
That's the way I remember her best.

I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all.
Many times I've often prayed
In the darkness of my night,
In the brightness of my day.

So if you're travelin' in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

Colorbook and edgar, America and Bob Dylan. Quite a combination is it not? and I now see the last line to which edgar referred earlier in his comparison of the fair.

Perhaps, this would make a wonderful goodnight song, listeners:

Barbra Streisand Lyrics - I Stayed Too Long at the Fair

I wanted the music to play on forever
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
I wanted the clown to be constantly clever
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
I bought me blue ribbons to tie up my hair,
But I couldn't find anybody to care;
The merry-go-round is beginning to taunt now
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
The music has stop and the children must go now
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
Oh, mother dear, I know you're very proud,
Your little girl in gingham is so far above the crowd;
No, daddy dear, you never could have known
That I would be successful, yet so very much alone...
I wanted to live in a carnival city,
With laughter and love everywhere;
I wanted my friends to be thrilling and witty,
I wanted somebody to care;
I found my blue ribbons all shiny and new
But now I discover them no longer blue...
The merry-go-round is beginning to taunt me,
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
There's nothing to win
And there's no one to want me
Have I stayed too long at the fair?

Goodnight, my WA2K friends.

North - Joan Baez
Where icicles hung the blossoms swing,
but in my heart there is no spring.
You were my spring, my summer too,
it's always winter without you.

The flocks head north and the lilacs bloom,
at night they scent my moonlit room.
You were my spring, my summer too,
I'm going north to look for you.

Like a windblown bird my heart goes forth,
sent by the spring to the shining north.
You are my spring, my summer too,
and I won't rest till I find you.

I Was the One

( Schroeder - Demetruis - Blair - Peppers)

I was the one who taught her to kiss
The way that she kisses you now.
And you know the way she touches your cheek,
Well, I taught her how.

I was the one who taught her to cry
When she wants you under her spell.
The sight of her tears drives you out of your mind,
I taught her so well.

And then one day
I had my love as perfect as could be.
She lived, she loved, she laughed, she cried,
And it was all for me.

I'll never know who taught her to lie.
Now that it's over and done,
Who learned the lesson when she broke my heart?

I was the one.

And then one day
I had my love as perfect as could be.
She lived, she loved, she laughed, she cried,
And it was all for me.

I'll never know who taught her to lie.
Now that it's over and done,
Who learned the lesson when she broke my heart?
I was the one.

Isolation
John Lennon

People say we got it made
Don't they know we're so afraid?
Isolation
We're afraid to be alone
Everybody got to have a home
Isolation

Just a boy and a little girl
Trying to change the whole wide world
Isolation
The world is just a little town
Everybody trying to put us down
Isolation

I don't expect you to understand
After you've caused so much pain
But then again, you're not to blame
You're just a human, a victim of the insane

We're afraid of everyone
Afraid of the sun
Isolation
The sun will never disappear
But the world may not have many years
Isolation

Thanks Colorbook for that reminder of the song America

I always thought that an incredible evocative and powerful line
"Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike ...they've all come to look for America"

and a lovely song, so reminiscent of its time, and those troubadors who spoke for a nation.

Good morning, all!

Thinking about those songs, I remembered this one:

My American Dream, by America:

I always thought that i wanted a long, new, shiny cadillac
That a real man wears five hundred dollar suits upon his back
I always thought that i needed a big, old house with a million dollar view
But baby, since we fell in love, all i needed is you

Waking up (waking up) to my american dream
She's a long haired, blue eyed, country girl
She's better than a fantasy
Waking up (waking up) to my american dream
And i would not trade the whole wide world
For what she means to me

She's pretty as the moonlight on the gulf of mexico
And her heart is pure and true as any california gold
I put her on a pedastel like lady liberty
Know there is no finer girl from sea to shining sea

I'm waking up (waking up) to my american dream
She's a long haired, blue eyed, country girl
She's better than a fantasy
Waking up (waking up) to my american dream
And i would not trade the whole wide world
For what she means to me

Waking up (waking up) to my american dream
She's a real live, blue eyed, country girl
The best thing i've ever seen
And i would not trade the whole wide world
For what she means to me
I'm waking up (waking up) to my american dream
I'm waking up (i'm waking up) to my american dream

Good morning, WA2K fans.

edgar, that's a strange song by Lennon. I suppose, all, that Beatlemania took its toll on the individual boys in the group--hence the isolation amidst popularity--the price of fame.

McTag, I'll let edgar guess at your Texas song. <smile>

Walter, welcome back to our studios. One of the segments of Humanities always involved The American Dream, and your song reflects it so perfectly or imperfectly.

Explain this to our listeners, Walter:

Organizers pull plug on Berlin's Love Parade dance party

Thu Apr 21,10:44 AM ET Entertainment - AFP

BERLIN (AFP) - Berlin's giant Love Parade techno music dance party has been called off for the second year running, but organizers said they were hoping to revive it in time for the 2006 soccer World Cup.

AFP/DDP/File Photo

After reaching a peak in 1999 with 1.5 million ravers grooving through the streets of the German capital, the event gradually ran out of steam and its management said it was unable to find enough sponsors to fund the July event.

Sabine Bremermann of the Love Parade Ltd said plans for the street party were now being revamped with the aim of winning fresh backing to stage it in the summer of 2006.

"We will do everything we can, in cooperation with the city-state of Berlin, industry and the media, to find a way to make a comeback the year of the World Cup" in Germany, she said.

Germany is hosting the World Cup from June 9 to July 9 next year.

South Korean electronics giant Samsung recently cancelled as a sponsor and the Berlin daily Tagesspiegel reported that Germany's T-Mobile had also pulled out.

The Love Parade blamed Berlin's ailing economy for the sponsors' flight but officials from the city-state government said the organizers had failed to change with the times.

After starting small in West Berlin in 1989 the summer before the Berlin Wall fell, the party grew with the craze in electronic music and helped make Berlin the techno capital of the world.

Spin-offs were launched in Switzerland, Israel, Mexico and the United States but Berlin remained the mecca for the world's ravers.

While the organizers used to leave Berlin to pick up the costs of the parade by claiming the event was a political demonstration, a court ruled in 2001 that it was a commercial venture and liable for the expenses.

The cancellation comes just days after the legendary dance club Tresor shut its doors after 13 years as a fixture of Berlin nightlife.

What is a love parade?

Incidentally, all. Anyone seen George?

British radio to broadcast the silent sound of worship

Fri Apr 22, 7:48 PM ET

LONDON (AFP) - Listeners tuning into a regular British radio show which broadcasts religious services will have an unexpected surprise this weekend -- a programme made up largely of silence.

AFP/File Photo

BBC Radio's "Sunday Worship" usually features Christian services, but will this week be broadcast from a meeting held by Quakers, also known as the Society of Friends, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported Saturday.

Quaker meetings are centred around a long period of quiet contemplation by the gathered participants -- usually lasting around an hour -- with no hymns, sermons, spoken prayers or priests.

The BBC has previously had little to do with broadcasting Quaker meetings lest listeners believe their radios have broken down, the report said.

The broadcaster's radio stations additionally have a technical back-up system which automatically transmits music in the event of a long silence, which it presumes is a technical fault.

Sunday morning's 40-minute programme will come from a Quaker school in Reading, west of London, and will include a period of silence, although a shorter one than usual, the report added.

I was simply wondering, listeners, what the benefit is to a radio worship service that produces silence, when one can do that in the confines of his own home. Perhaps it's a matter of scheduling via radio.
