@edgarblythe,
edgar, Some I like by Pat; some I don't, but your lovely combo of his top tunes was really good. Thanks, buddy. As I have grown older, I see beauty without the benefit of peer pressure.

I am on a vent kick today, folks. It began with the betrayal of Tesla and now the same with a man called Tucker who had a dream.

First, a little bit of history.

http://www.tuckerclub.org/html/history.php

Now, the movie that explains the car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL-AFSAIln0

I question everything. Sometimes I am right; other times wrong. When we quit questioning, true democracy is lost.

My point about Ian Whitcomb's songs was not meant to convey that we ought to accept a song simply because others seem to accept it. I was explaining that it was my only real acquaintance with his music, and that without that song we possibly would not know he had other songs.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I didn't mean that at all, buddy. I just wanted to hear a more mature Ian as I had never heard him before. I was talking of peer pressure in the sense of what your friends like, etc and how we conformed when we were young. Nothing is sadder than a "group isolate". I have seen it too often, but a teacher must be very careful not to make an issue of it that will increase that possibility.

My specific rants involved how big business (examples were Tesla and Tucker) stifles excellent inventions and discoveries in the name of MONEY. I was stunned to discover that Thomas Edison was among that group, as I have always admired the Wizard of Menlo Park. John D. Rockefeller didn't surprise me one bit.

Hey, I'm off the lectern now and want to listen to this, folks. Occasionally we do an op. ed. here, but since I have been dubbed the production managet/producer, I like to see what others feel.

Remeber this one, Texas?

An oasis in a desert.

Hey, Brit. Welcome back. I think that light bulb just went off in my head. You mean that you aren't getting the sound from OUR songs, right. Nanci is fabulous. You sent me to the archives, buddy.

What a discovery.

Nanci Caroline Griffith, (born July 6, 1953 in Seguin, Texas) is an American singer, guitarist and songwriter from Austin, Texas.

Griffith's career has spanned a variety of musical genres, predominantly country, Folk, and what she terms "folkabilly." Griffith won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 1994 for her recording, Other Voices, Other Rooms. This album features Griffith covering the songs of artists who are her major influences. One of her better-known songs is "From a Distance" by Julie Gold, although Bette Midler's version achieved greater commercial success. Similarly, other artists have occasionally achieved greater success with Griffith's songs than Griffith herself. For example, Kathy Mattea had a country music top five hit with a 1986 cover of Griffith's "Love at the Five and Dime," and Suzy Bogguss had one of her largest hits with Griffith's and Tom Russell's "Outbound Plane."

Griffith was married to singer-songwriter Eric Taylor from 1976 to 1982. In the early 1990s, she was engaged to singer-songwriter Tom Kimmel, but the couple parted before marrying. Griffith is a survivor of breast cancer which was diagnosed in 1996, and thyroid cancer in 1998.

Griffith has in recent years toured with various other artists including Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets, John Prine, Iris DeMent, Suzy Bogguss and Judy Collins. Griffith has recorded duets with many artists, among them Emmylou Harris, Mary Black, John Prine, Don McLean, Jimmy Buffett, Dolores Keane, Willie Nelson, Adam Duritz (singer of Counting Crows), and Darius Rucker (singer of Hootie & the Blowfish). She has also contributed background vocals on many other recordings.

Urs, My word, I love that one by Garth. I once told Prince Gautam after visiting one Dr. Patel that I had friends in high places. Thanks for the memory, gal.

How about Bette doing "From a Distance" to see what we all think.

edgar, I remember Fred. His last movie was My Cousin Vinney. What a great one that was. Funny, Texas. All that lightning activity was the result of Tesla's coil bringing Mr. Munster to life. Love it.

Nite, Brit. I just remembered one of my favorite songs by that great lady.

So, all, two goodnight songs to sing us all to sleep. First this one by Ann.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvrKznoVga4

Now some moon music by Debussy.

Don't we love the contrast?

From Letty with love and a prayer for my son.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K and edgar.

Loved that song by Bobby Darin. I had no idea that he could mimic other singers. Amazing, no?

Sheeeeeze, I got my calendar days all mixed up. Anyone surprised?

Here's another fascinating thing. I had to check out what dylan meant by "watchtower", too. Love the paintings on the video, and there's the jester.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_ncQgjIlFM&NR=1

Didn't know that Bob was in a motorcycle wreck nor did I know that he spent many days reading the Bible.

The song was recorded by Dylan as a quiet three-chord Folk song on November 6, 1967, at Columbia Studio A, Nashville, Tennessee. Accompanying Dylan, who played acoustic guitar and harmonica, were Charlie McCoy on bass guitar and Kenneth Buttrey on drums The producer was Bob Johnston, who had been Dylan's producer since Highway 61 Revisited in 1965.

When Dylan wrote this song, he was recovering from a motorcycle accident which had marked a shift in his career. Members of his family commented on his reading the Bible on a daily basis. Several critics have pointed out that Dylan's lyrics echo lines in the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 21, verses 5-9:

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise ye princes, and prepare the shield.For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth, And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed....And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

I prefer the Dylan version of Watchtower, although he himself is said to defer to Jimi Hendrix.
When Dylan converted to Christianity, he followed the Jesus example of three years service. In this time, he wrote religious songs for at least three albums. I sort of doubt it now, but he was said to have been baptised in Pat Boone's pool.

George Harrison and Dylan came up with this song together. Each recorded it seperately. Olivia Newton-John had a hit with it.

@edgarblythe,
Never heard that one by George, edgar. I really liked it. Thanks, buddy.

Here's the weather report in my area of Florida, y'all, brought to you by Johnny Nash. Just noticed that a bunch of vocalists have done this one as well.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, Great song by Buddy Holly and The crickets. It is my understanding that The Beatles took their name as a tribute to Buddy Holly.

Heard this little fellow last evening outside my window.
