@Letty,
Good Morning, miss letty!

Today is Debbie Sledge's birthday. Here is Debbie and her sisters singing "Thinking of You", a song that never made it to the charts in the US but was very popular in the UK.

@Letty,
I love John Mayall, Miss Letty. I saw him here a couple years ago -- great show!

Enjoying Gypsy Woman now...

Speaking of Gypsy music --- I've been enjoying some gypsy jazz.

@JPB,
JPB, Welcome back O flying squirrel. You just cheered me up a bit, Chicago.

Great song by the "sista". Thinking of you was different, and Floyd Rose's Gypsy Guitar reminded me of the wonderful effect of tremolo. WOW.

Remember The Bird Cage, y'all? I liked Sister Sledge's version of We Are Family better, but Gene Hackman and Robin Williams were hilarious in the movie. I will never forget Gene trying to escape the press in this final scene.

@Letty,
That was a riot! I've never seen the movie -- looks like it would be fun.

I found a live performance of Ain't Nobody by Chaka Khan that I thought you might like.

@JPB,
JPB, I love Chaka's rhythm, but I cannot always understand her lyrics. Now I'm not certain what she meant by "Ain't Nobody". I think you and I and all of our audience understands that lyric poetry was written to be sung.

The Birdcage was the last movie that I saw that had me in stitches. Robin Williams was the master of the double take in that one.

I dedicated this to you and Joe not too long ago, and later to Wandel, but I really love it and hope that you do.

@Letty,
Thank you, Miss L. Yes, I remember "Does Anybody Know..." very well. It's a great message. You know? I've never seen Chicago live. I think they have reunion tours every so often. I'll make a point of seeing them the next time I get a chance.

I was just listening to my CD of Respighi's "The Pines and Fountains of Rome" and "Roman Festivals" with Lorin Maazel and the Pittsburgh Symphony which I think is the definitive recording, although Toscanini's only suffers from dated sound, and the old Living Stereo with Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony is closely the equal in performance and sound quality. Here's the best I could do on YouTube:

JPB, I love Saturday in the Park by Chicago. We'll dedicate that one to alex. Razz

Hey, Mr. Wizard. Welcome back once again. Am not familiar with that classical piece, but it is very different. Are the members of the concert Japanese? Thanks, buddy. Need to listen again.

I did recognize Roma, however, and it reminds me of my favorite of all opera singers, Enrico Caruso. misme had a thread about the appeal of opera, as did Deb some time ago. It is odd to me that I loved this aria which I picked up from my brother-in-law who was in WWII. He hummed bits and pieces of many operatic arias, both Italian and Russian. I was eleven years old. My older sister's husband made me a digitally remastered tape of him as well.

This one sold over one million copies, y'all.

I suppose everyone becomes a bit bored with me when I get fixated on this guy.

I did find out that the members of Mr. Wizard's symphony orchestra were Japanese. They are from Osaka. That's why I do not like imbedded stuff.

Time for me to say goodnight, and although I could not find P.T. Barnum's Greatest Show on Earth that I liked, this is an even better show, y'all.

The bells. They made me deaf, you know.
We have my grandson with us most of the week. I don't get to use my computer much. I watched Ben Hur in its entirety tonight.

Hi there DJ, seeing as how it's my birthday today, can I get a dedication read out ove the radio? Any time will do, I listen all day to your show.

Also I would like if your listeners could maybe answer a question I have, which my brother and I were discussing yesterday:

as well as songs like Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen and The Boogie-woogie Bugle Boy of Company B was the song Istanbul (is Constantinople) also one of the Andrews Sisters recordings, or was that one by some other group?

I think I hear far off thunder this morning. As I pointed out repeatedly, we have not had rain since May. My worry now is that it may come in the form of severe storms.

Hello. Where did McTag go? Off to a pub somewhere, I guess.

Here's another Brit's birthday, y'all.

Ringo Starr.

Rain, rain, rain!

Raindrops
Dee Clark

Oh, raindrops
So many raindrops
It feels like raindrops
Falling from my eye-eyes
Falling from my eyes

Since my love has left me
I'm so all alone
I would bring her back to me
But I don't know where she's gone
I don't know where she's gone

There must be a cloud in my head
Rain keeps falling from my eye-eyes
Oh no, it can't be teardrops
For a man ain't suppose to cry

So, it must be raindrops
A-so many raindrops
It feels like raindrops
Falling from my eye-eyes
Falling from my eyes

Oh, ooh, ooh
There must be a cloud in my head
Rain keeps falling from my eye-eyes
Oh no, it can't be teardrops
For a man ain't suppose to cry

So, it must be raindrops
So many raindrops
It feels like raindrops
Falling from my eye-eyes
Falling from my eyes

It keeps on fallin'!
Fallin' from my eyes

Whoa-Hooo-Hooo-Woo

It keeps a-fallin' from my eye-hi-eyes

Keeps fallin' from my eyes.

Good afternoon. I particularly like the tribute to Richard Starkey.

Raspberries, Strawberries, by the Kingson Trio

It rained very nicely today. No destructive wind, just long heavy rain.

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar, I remember The Kingston Trio doing Tom Dooley. Thanks for that song by them. Made me want some strawberries.

Wow! I had forgotten that Ringo's real name was Richard STARkey. So, I think we should do one about a STARman.

@Letty,
One way or another, you have to click on the link -- you aren't one of those "ladies who lunch" who run out of hours in the day? Kidding, of course. Speaking of that song from Sondheim's "Company," one of the finest musicals of all time, I was lucky enough to hear Elaine Strich at the Ahmansen in LA when the show was on tour.
