@edgarblythe,
I'm with you on having Buddy's voice do the real singing, edgar.

Wow! Don't know Johnny Ace, but I liked the song he sang. The real shocker was the bit about Russian roulette, Texas. Naturally, I thought of the movie The Deer Hunter. What a wonderful discovery to find this lovely song, (recorded by John Williams much earlier) that was played in the movie. Stanley Myers composed it for classical guitar.

@edgarblythe,
Yes, edgar, all is rather quiet tonight. Loved that Marty Robbins song, Texas. The story of Marty's and Bobby's life may have been short, but beautiful.

A drink to all of you, everywhere.

For the Brits, The Aussies, The Canucks, The Americans. The Europeans, The squirrel, The Moose. Santana rather resembles Jim Croce, no?

Two songs for my goodnight, everyone.

First a flower of the moon

Many have recorded Harbor LIghts, but few have done it justice. I love the version you played, letty. Then, santana. He has a pretty broad range of music after so many years.

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Welcome back, mooseman. Great original, buddy. Thanks.

edgar, I loved your closing songs last evening, especially Katja Ebstein's Greek music. Reminds me of The Odyssey, Texas.

Ah, "the velvet fog". What a voice, and that morning song was lovely. Great jazz ballad, "My Romance".

I recall my mom saying to someone, "darlin', you look like the wreck of the hesperus." Now I know what she meant. Then there is The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner replete with an albatross.

Today is Lena Horne's birthday. Wow! that lady is still with us, y'all.

Here is one by her.

@Letty,
Thanks for the vintage Lena -- really amazing what they can do with old recordings to digitally clean them up. Old recording techniques had the range for the human voice but I often wonder why there isn't more digital enhancement of the orchestra sound, especially the brass (the overtone treble harmonics are mostly lost).

@edgarblythe,
Having lived on or near the Pacific for so many years, those two songs have a personal nostalgia for me. They were both favorites of my late aunt and uncle who live on Newport Island (across the street from Zane Grey's house, the first house on the mostly man-made island).

Welcome back, Mr. Wizard. Yep, vintage recordings are the best, methinks.

Had to look up your Newport Island, buddy and found Zane Grey's house. Didn't know that the island was mostly man made.

I was trying to find another vintage recording by Mel without much luck, but was I surprised to find this one. Who would have thought The Smothers Bros. had this other side, folks. They are good

My mom and one brother bought some Smothers Brothers record albums, back in the days - Mostly they clowned, but they had some serious singing too.

Frank and Julio recorded this version of The Summer Wind.
We have a break from the hundred plus temperatures today. Might even get a shower for the first time in over a month.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, love Frank and Julio's The Summer Wind. Don't know Dave Van Ronk, but he sounds a little like Dylan, buddy. Hmmm, Hesitation Blues. Like that one, Texas.

Finally got some rain here and the temp is a reasonable 84, so things are cooling off a bit.

Thinking of Leon Russell today, y'all, so how about another island song.
