Oops, folks, Barry the Brit, just like London fog, crept in on little cat feet and rode his scooter by the Harlem River and The Yucatan. Sorry that I "mist" you, buddy.

edgar, Love that song by The Mama's and The Papa's, and I got a feelin' that this guy's predictions are spot on. Today's his birthday, so what do y'all think?

I loved Carradine in many things. Particularly playing Woody Guthrie.

That video with Noory was dated two years ago. Maybe things have changed a bit.

@edgarblythe,
First edgar, allow me to say that I had no idea that David did the life of Woody Guthrie. Loved the story of the man and his ability to pull people out of the depths of dispair during the Great Depression. Thanks for the song, Texas.

Well, I know absolutely nothing about prognosticators. I do recall my Mamma telling me: "Lawd, darlin' it all depends on how the weather is." Razz

Did find this for our listeners, however.

German economy 'to shrink 4pc in 2009'
Germany is poised to plunge into a much deeper recession than previously thought, with its economy perhaps shrinking 4pc next year, Deutsche Bank's chief economist has warned.

State agency predicts recession for 2009

Friday 19 December 2008
The state statistics agency says France will enter recession in 2009 for the first time in 16 years and faces a sharp rise in unemployment. Finance Minister Christine Lagarde ,however, is predicting modest growth of between 0.2 and 0.5%.

Frankly, folks, I measure everything according to the economy locally.

How about an afternoon at the opera. Today is Robert Merrill's birthday.

Liza - Caberet

come hear the music play

my music... http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/izzielzzie454 - all so........... heart sigh...

What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret.

Put down the knitting,
The book and the broom.
Time for a holiday.
Life is Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret.

Come taste the wine,
Come hear the band.
Come blow your horn,
Start celebrating;
Right this way,
Your table's waiting

No use permitting
some prophet of doom
To wipe every smile away.
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret!

I used to have a girlfriend
known as Elsie
With whom I shared
Four sordid rooms in Chelsea

She wasn't what you'd call
A blushing flower...
As a matter of fact
She rented by the hour.

The day she died the neighbors
came to snicker:
"Well, thats what comes
from to much pills and liquor."

But when I saw her laid out like a Queen
She was the happiest...corpse...
I'd ever seen.

I think of Elsie to this very day.
I'd remember how'd she turn to me and say:
"What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret."

And as for me,
I made up my mind back in Chelsea,
When I go, I'm going like Elsie.

Start by admitting
From cradle to tomb
Isn't that long a stay.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Only a Cabaret, old chum,
And I love a Cabaret!

lovin' y'all xxxxxx

Well, I have had a time tonight with the equipment in my wee studio. Finally, things are working.

edgar, I had no idea that Freddie did "Secret Love". Thanks for the info, Texas. I don't speak EYEtalian either. Hit don't matter none, however. Just hearing the music is enough.

Izzie, never heard that version of Moon River. I never hear it that I don't think of Johnny Mercer. Thanks, gal. I don't have any bumps or bruises, hun. I never saw Breakfast at Tiffany's either.

Love Cabaret, as well.

er, dys. Bag of Hammers was, shall we say, different, but that Johnnie Winters' Key to the Highway was one that I moved to. Gonna listen again later.

Today is Jackie Wilson's birthday, so let's get "highter and higher", folks

@Letty,
When I first saw the Broadway show "Cabaret," it being the trail blazer for deeply serious themes in musical theater, I loved the retention of the comedy but it was a more human comedy. When the plot and the songs began to get into the foreboding of the persecution of Jews, it brought tears to my eyes. The ominous anthem "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" shot chills down my spine and the movie version was incredibly good:

Wow, that quick shot of Joel with that devilish grin at the end and the two male lovers (one, of course, representing Christopher Isherwood) driving off after getting those same chills is pungent indeed.

What a revolutionary (pun intended) musical "Cabaret" was and the basis of inspiration for Stephen Sondheim's later work.

@edgarblythe,
It's really a great film and it's amazing to me that Liza Minnelli didn't retain that Oscar quality acting much further into her career. That seems to happen with the gold statuette too often -- get one, then get lazy. Same with Joel Grey.

Everyone else in the film is fantastic, too.
