ah, edgar, I loved that song by Jackie Wilson. "...the greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return..."

Mr. Wizard, just as edgar, I only know the songs from Cabaret, but your "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" sent a few chills up my spine as well. Hitler's youth; and you're right about Joel Grey. Tomorrow, we'll have to discuss the musical further as I want to know more about Sondheim.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I was inspired by edgar's "Oh, what is so rare as a day in June"

James Russell Lowell was one of my favorite poets.

Goodnight, all

Well, I'm Leaving this afternoon. Going to Dallas for the first time since my brother died. Here is a Hank Williams tune to explain it - sung by George.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

Rocky, What a delightful song by Yo Yo Ma. Sesame Street? That was a surprise, Kansas.

Hey, Brit. Sweeny Todd was one weird movie. Never did figure out who killed who at the end, however. Thanks for that great song by that talented kid.

My favorite was Sidewinder because I really love jazz flute. Al Jarreau was different, but I like the samba, buddy. Met Art Blakey, incidentally.

edgar, Long Gone Daddy by George was great. Didn't know that Hank did it first. Fact is Texas, I didn't even know the song.

Izzie, I wondered about your link, but Cabaret was great the second time around.

Well, y'all, today is Kenny G's birthday, so how about greeting the day with some more jazz.

Wow! Did anyone read the update on David Carradine? I believe that I would rather the world think that I had committed suicide.

@Barry The Mod,
We were in New York and I was just a kid. Had to tell my mom that we were going to be chaperoned. Sheeeze. We were in Birdland and Art came and sat with us at our booth. Had a roving photographer take a picture. Still have it around here somethere, Brit. He signed it " Nothing but the Soul" Art. Heard George Shearing at The Embers, too.

Here's another by Kenny G. Song Bird,folks.

@Letty,
Went to The Embers more than once to hear Shearing -- nice room. He was really honored to have Telarc with their outstanding sound standards release his later recordings. Here's an example of his versatility and sense of humor in the intro, turning "I Cover the Waterfront" into a Debussy Etude:

@Lightwizard,
Mr. Wizard, that was fabulous. Unlike dys' reference to "wife knows everything" I knew nothing of Shearing until Bud explained about his block chords. Was that Debussy etude La Mer? He also did The Shadow of Your Smile that ended with a Bach bit, but I can't recall which it was.

The trouble with classical music is that I know the melody, but cannot reference the particular etude, etc.

Here's one by Marvin Gaye that I like, y'all.

@Letty,
"La Mer" was a full orchestra piece but I think it was inspired by some melodies either from his Preludes or Etudes solo piano pieces. Of course, Shearing injected some modern jazz into the mix. I always wanted him to actually record the full Debussy Etudes and Preludes. I think it would be a big seller.

@Lightwizard,
Definitely, Mr. Wizard. Love Debussy and Trenet's LaMer.

Today is Brian McKnight's birthday, so let's hear one from him, folks.
