I don't know if I like it or not, either, letty. I like Allen Ginsburg's salute to Whitman:

A Supermarket in California

What thoughts I have of you tonight, Walt Whitman, for I walked down the
streets under the trees with a headache self-conscious looking at the full moon.

In my hungry fatigue, and shopping for images, I went into the neon fruit
supermarket, dreaming of your enumerations!
What peaches and what penumbras! Whole families shopping at night! Aisles
full of husbands! Wives in the avocados, babies in the tomatoes! --- and you,
Garcia Lorca, what were you doing down by the watermelons?
I saw you, Walt Whitman, childless, lonely old grubber, poking among the
meats in the refrigerator and eyeing the grocery boys.
I heard you asking questions of each: Who killed the pork chops? What price
bananas? Are you my Angel?
I wandered in and out of the brilliant stacks of cans following you, and
followed in my imagination by the store detective.
We strode down the open corridors together in our solitary fancy tasting
artichokes, possessing every frozen delicacy, and never passing the cashier.
Where are we going, Walt Whitman? The doors close in an hour. Which way does
your beard point tonight?
(I touch your book and dream of our odyssey in the supermarket and feel
absurd.)
Will we walk all night through solitary streets? The trees add shade to
shade, lights out in the houses, we'll both be lonely.
Will we stroll dreaming of the lost America of love past blue automobiles in
driveways, home to our silent cottage?
Ah, dear father, graybeard, lonely old courage-teacher, what America did you
have when Charon quit poling his ferry and you got out on a smoking bank and
stood watching the boat disappear on the black waters of Lethe?

Allen Ginsberg

@edgarblythe,
Wow! love that poem, edgar, especially the last verse:

Time for me to day goodnight, and I think I'll do one from The Bridges of Madison County. (Clint Eastwood again) along with one that Bert Lee did on guitar.

Looking for that still small voice of calm, since hurricane season begins tomorrow.

Goodnight, world,

from Letty with love

Been so long since I heard Joanie Sommers, I had forgotten all about her. She still handles a tune very well.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K radio and edgar.

That was a great one by that Diamond man. Thanks, Texas.

Well, y'all, we heard about the green grass of home, now how about the green leaves of summer.

Today is Nelson Riddles' birthday so here is a tribute to him.

ah, yes. It's Monday again and everyone is working. (I hope)

Two songs for this afternoon. First an interesting preface, then a patronizing clip about Ralph Ellison. Keep in mind that this is Ralph North of the Mason Dixon Line.

Ralph Ellison (1914-1994)

With things going so well I distributed my letters in the mornings, and saw the city during the afternoons. Walking about the streets, sitting on subways beside whites, eating with them in the same cafeterias (although I avoided their tables) gave me the eerie, out-of-focus sensation of a dream. My clothes felt ill-fitting; and for all my letters to men of power, I was unsure of how I should act. For the first time, as I swung along the streets, I thought consciously of how I had conducted myself at home. I hadn't worried too much about whites as people. Some were friendly and some were not, and you tried not to offend either. But here they all seemed impersonal; and yet when most impersonal they startled me by being polite, by begging my pardon after brushing against me in a crowd. Still I felt that even when they were polite they hardly saw me, that they would have begged the pardon of Jack the Bear, never glancing his way if the bear happened to be walking along minding his business. It was confusing. I did not know if it was desirable or undesirable...

@urs53,
urs, you are an amazing lady. I was going to play holiday for strings, but those Japanes war drums stole the show. Is there anything that you can't do?

Here's an A Capella group (notice how the lady alerts the quartet to correct entonation with a pitch pipe.) with no strings attached.

I just got back from shopping and had the honor of talking to two of the most beautiful Japanese children that I have ever seen. One whose name was Sarah, and the other whose name was Anne. Their mom was Anglo and she was delighted with my honest observations.

Driving Miss Daisy looks to be a good film. I have never seen it, however.

Naturally, when I see the title, Invisible Man, I think science fiction. I forget Ralph Ellison. I read his book many years ago, but no longer recall enough to discuss it with intelligence.

I like No Strings Attached, Letty! Thanks!

I saw a taiko group many many years ago for the first time. And I was addicted! Never ever Wink did I imagine that I would get the chance to try this myself. Now I found this wonderful teacher who is offering workshops right in my town!

edgar, Many people try to make something out of Ralph Ellison's book that is not there. It is NOT about racism; it is about the fact that although the south may have been not a desirable place for some afro's, the north just looked right through Ralph. The black kid that changed my tires for me told me the same thing, and that is in the present day.

Hey, Urs. What a wonderful opportunity you have learning different things. I played bongos and a snare drum, but only because I could feel the rhythm more than most.

So, today is a holiday for children around the world, is it. A perfect holiday.

Y'all remember this one?

I think Louis Armstrong did it originally, but I liked this one by Paul.

@edgarblythe,
Damn, edgar. Nat was perfect on that one.

Marty Robbins

Maria Elena, you're the answer to a prayer
Maria Elena, can't you see how much I care?
To me your voice is like the echo of a sigh
And when you're near my heart can't speak above a sigh.

Maria Elena, say that we will never part
Maria Elena, take me to your heart
A love like mine is great enough for two
To share this love is really all I ask of you.

Maria Elena, say that we will never part
Maria Elena, take me to your heart
A love like mine is great enough for two
To share this love is really all I ask of you...

And another by Nat, y'all

Remembering all of us at the Cocoa gathering sitting there trying to solve those linear riddles that C.I. had sent. We collaborated and got all ten, hence receiving those T-shirts. I still have mine, Urs.

There is a new book which claims Jimi Hendrix was murdered by his manager.

That Nat song was simply more excellence, letty.
