Good morning, WA2K radio land.

edgar, I missed your Jackson Browne song last evening. Wow! Didn't know that he did The Eagles' "Take it Easy". Love it, Texas. Listening to Cher's "Gypsies Tramps and Thieves, and just discovered that it was a reference to Esmeralda of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Rock, Loved Yo Yo Ma's cello version of Tchaikovsky's sad song. Just discovered thatYo Yo was Chinese and born in France. I heard The Song of the Volga Boatmen in there, too.

I guess this will have to be declared Russian day on WA2K radio.

Strange, folks, The Beatles did "Back in the USSR" and it was written by Lennon and McCartney. (mostly Paul, however) Now I recall Larry Parks who did the Al Jolson Story. He was blacklisted because he was a card carrying communist. Maybe that is why I know "...and Mimi...". Another victim of the "red scare".

Yo heave ho.

And, y'all, Meadowland.

Have no idea why my brother-in-law knew that one.

Biblically, edgar, God put a rainbow in the sky to promise the world that the earth would never again be destroyed by a flood. Thanks for the rainbow song, buddy. Well, it's hi ho, hi ho, as off to work you go.

Thanks for the rainbow song, buddy, and here's an answer from Dean.

Sheeeeeze. Al Jolson did that one as well.

Guess I'll have to make me a hot cup of Russian tea using this, y'all.

I just got the Live in Rio DVD and here's Diana Krall (and the audience singing in Portuguese):

@Lightwizard,
Ah, back to jazz again, I see. Love that by Diana, Mr. Wizard and the guy on guitar is fabulous.

Interesting, y'all, I found these lyrics on the web, and they may be the original.

It is the girl, who comes and passes throught
Num doce balanço
in a sweet swing
A caminho do mar
on her way to the sea

Moça do corpo dourado do sol de Ipanema
Tanned body girl, from the sun of Ipanema
O seu balançado é mais que um poema
Your swing is more than a poem
É a coisa mais linda que eu já vi passar
it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen

Por que estou tão sozinho?
Why am I so lonely?
Por que tudo é tão triste?
Why is it all so sad?
A beleza que existe
The beauty in which exists
A beleza que não é só minha
The beauty in which is not only mine
E também passa sozinha
and,also passes by, alone

Ah! Se ela soubesse que quando ela passa
Ah! If she knows ...when she passes throught here
O mundo inteirinho se enche de graça
All the world fulfills in grace
E fica mais lindo
and it (the world) becomes more beautiful
Por causa do amor
because of love.

Sang that song on a local TV show, buddy.

Rainbow Round My Shoulder is good by many artists, in my opinion. I thought Back in the USSR was pretty neat for the time it was written.

Mr. Wizard, loved that duet by Sinatra and Jobim. Had no idea that they ever sang together. Jobim used the lyrics that I found, too.(check your email)

edgar, I realize that many did "Rainbow Round My Shoulder". I was just stunned that Al Jolson did it as well, buddy.

Yes, Meadowland is fantastic, and I loved that Julie London song. The first one I heard by her was "Cry Me a River." Incidentally, Texas. We don't care about spelling here. Frankly, I'm glad the spell check is gone. I am a terrible speller, and it's forced me to use mnemonic devices such as "BEET HOVEN"

Razz

Today is Adrian Paul's birthday, so we might as well have a little Scottish blood in the mix. I only saw the one with Sean Connery, but the theme song by Queen is the same.

Let's listen, folks.

Running Google Silver or whatever it is, it spellchecks everything I write. Only thing, it can't tell me the right way to spell Ipanema, only if I got it right.

@edgarblythe,
Hmmm, That's twice that I've lost my response, edgar. Love that one, Texas. I played it for Setanta's birthday. Yep, When they get their Irish up. LOOK OUT!

Today is Noel Gallager's birthday. Don't know him at all, but let's listen to the guy do this thing, y'all. (He's the singer with a group called Oasis)
