@Barry The Mod,
Therefore ,send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. Loved that John Denver tribute, Brit.

Izzie, no problem with the sad song; all is well now.

Today is Christopher Walken's birthday, and this was his most powerful performance.

@Rockhead,
Hey, R.H., glad that you picked the one who can sing. We'll dedicate your song to the Yitwails as they live on the same island as Jack. He is really great.

I needed to check him out as I have never heard him before.

Jack Johnson was born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. The son of famous surfer Jeff Johnson, he naturally took an interest in the sport, along with his best friend Ben Schomer. He began surfing and skating at the age of 5 under the tutelage of his father's best friends, Alex Conel and Sumner Bukoski, and at 17 he became the youngest invitee to make the surfing finals at the Pipeline Masters at Sunset Beach on Oahu, though he was eventually disqualified after failing to catch three waves. One week later, however, his brief stint as a professional surfer ended when he suffered a surfing accident at Pipeline. He needed almost 150 stitches. He stated about the accident, "I like to joke that I hit my head so hard that that's why I'm so mellow, but I think it did mellow me out"

Love this one by him as well, y'all.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, did you ever get to listen to The Surprise Symphony? It has been said that Haydn made that surge in volume to wake people up.

Thanks for the lovely classical piece "The Day of Creation", Texas.

It's also Herb Alpert's birthday. Great song by him, y'all.

@Letty,
Mahalo, Madame PD. here's the other Jack Johnson, by way of Miles Davis (who was quite the amateur boxer himself)

honu, thanks for accepting our gracious invitation to return. I had no idea that Miles was an amateur boxer. Ah, the Jack Johnson progressions. Love it.

edgar, glad you had the opportunity to be surprised and I enjoyed Ricky Skaggs, "Honey Won't You open that Door".

Hmmm, I see that Herbie Hanock was a part of that session. How about one by him.

@Letty,
can't forget my old friends : PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND .
one of the old recordings probably from the 70's with the humphrey bros and sing miller .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oqnrwOakes&feature=related

listened to them first in NYC in the 60's .
we have also attented some sessions with the younger fellows who have now taken over - they are good , but .... those old fellows sure had a mellow tone -
they are all long gone now - much appreciated in their time and much missed now .

anyone willing to play : CONNECT THE PICTURE ?

@hamburger,
hbg, I love that old gospel hymn. The Preservation Hall Jazz band did it just the tempo that it should have been done.

Here are the lyrics

Just a Closer Walk With Thee

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea.
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

I am weak, but Thou art strong
Jesus, keep me from all wrong.
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk let me walk close to Thee

In this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who but Thee my burden shares?
None but Thee, oh Lord, none but Thee.

When my feeble life is o'er
Time for me will be more no more
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore to Thy shore

When my weary life is o'er
Pain and suff'ring are no more.
Who will lead me safely o'er
Canaan's shore,
That sweet Canaan's shore.
