Had to look that up, Rocky.

Clapton is God: The story behind the saying
Entry published in Biography - EC’s Life & Career / Last modified on 3 September 2007

The phrase “Clapton is God ” originated during Eric's tenure with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Eric was a member of the Bluesbreakers from April to late August 1965 and again from November 1965 to July 1966.

It was during this time that Eric first rose to prominence in the burgeoning British Blues scene. The phrase “Clapton is God” was spray painted on a wall in the Underground station in Islington in the mid-60s by an admirer. Islington is one of the many boroughs of the greater London Area. It then began to appear in other areas of the city.

The graffiti was captured in a now-famous photograph. Helped by the photo, the legend grew.

in the city of LUEBECK (northern germany) they have a great "puppet-theater" housed in a several centuries old building

they are currently performing RIGOLETTO - without pavarotti - but scary enough !

@hamburger,
UhOh, hbg. That funny looking double jointed puppet is rather scary. Another thought. I wonder what will happen here on April Fool's Day?Shocked

I have an idea. Let's let my favorite Italian stand in for the puppet master. So, from Joe Green (that's Giuseppe Verdi in English) here's Enrico.

@Letty,
thanks , letty !
i just love those old recordings - and so does mrs h - that's why we still still have a good collection of old vinyls - one of them has mirella freni and luciano singing duets - from verdi's "la traviata" to donezetti's "la fille de regiment " .
luciano was probably just in his 40's when the record was cut - his voice was still lush and youthful .

another favourite is a 2-cd collection from the MET of "il barbiere di siviglia" . it is a collection of performances from 1906 - antonio pina-corsi singing "ROMANI - manca un foglio" to a 1987 recording of rockwell blake singing : "cessa di piu redidtere" and "ah, il piu lieto '- just great to listen to .

at home we had one of those old "his master's voice" gramophone's with a good collection of records - mum and dad both loved the opera and operetta .
barber of seville was one of my favourites even as a young boy - and it's staid that way - i guess it's just such a great and funny story .

here is tito gobbi singing "largo al factotum" - it just makes me smile listening to it .

letty :
have you come across "100 greatest singers" ?
give it a try - probably too much to watch all at once - but good for a rainy
evening :

Hey, Latin lover. I had to do more research on the Gipsy Kings. Here's a synopsis of what I found.

Band's story
They became popular with their self-titled first album, Gipsy Kings, which included the songs "Djobi Djoba [1]", "Bamboleo [2]" and the romantic ballad "Un Amor". The song "Volare" on their second album Mosaique is a rumba version of Domenico Modugno's Italian hit "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu". The Gipsy Kings were enormously popular in France and throughout Europe along with the middle east. In 1989, Gipsy Kings was released in the United States and it spent 40 weeks on the charts, one of very few Spanish language albums to do so. Their cover version of "Hotel California" is an excellent example of fast flamenco guitar leads and rhythmic strumming (this version was featured in the Coen Brothers' movie The Big Lebowski).

In 1991 the Gipsy Kings provided flamenco guitar and backing vocals on Bananarama's version of "Long Train Running", using the pseudonym "Alma de Noche" ("Soul of the Night"). Also in '91, for a multi-artist project called "Simply Mad About the Mouse" " a compilation of new versions of songs from Disney films " the Kings contributed an annaly-crafted, fast-paced rumba flamenca version of "I've Got No Strings" from "Pinocchio"? - replete with feverish flamenco guitar leads and rhythmic hand-claps (palmas). The lyrics' enthusiasm for freedom, not being tied down, fit the gipsy creed perfectly.

Their 1993 album "Love and Liberte" won the Latin Grammy Award for "Best Pop Album of the Year," and contained the enduring song "Montana," an emotional account of Roma chased from their birthplace by prejudice and persecution.

The '95 compilation "The Best of the Gipsy Kings" went platinum, staying on the charts more than one year. Albums "Mosaïque," "Allegria," "Este Mundo," "Gipsy Kings Live," "Love & Liberte," "Tierra Gitana," "Cantos de Amor" and "Volare! - the Very Best of the Gipsy Kings" went gold.

Izzie, That song by Sir Elton made me sad. No mind, hun. Get a good night's sleep.

Ah, hbg. I know Figaro but never saw that movie. Classical music is a favorite of mine and always has been. Tito Gibbo was great, and thanks, Canada.

I also saved your greatest songs to favorites

Back later, y'all, with my goodnight song.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I love Unchained Melody. I am so sorry to hear of Maurice Jarre's death. We are deprived of another great composer.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think that I shall do it with Lara's Theme.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yd2PzoF1y8&feature=related

And the lyrics in English

What now my love
Now that you left me
How can I live through another day
Watching my dreams turn into ashes
And all my hopes into bits of clay
Once I could see, once I could feel
Now I am numb
I've become unreal

I walk the night, oh, without a goal
Stripped of my heart, my soul
What now my love
Now that it's over
I feel the world closing in on me
Here come the stars
Tumbling around me
And there's the sky where the sea should be

What now my love
Now that you're gone
I'd be a fool to go on and on
No one would care, no one would cry
If I should live or die

What now my love
Now there is nothing
Only my last goodbye
Only my last goodbye

Not goodbye, but goodnight.

From Letty with love

Looks like you hit the wrong button, letty. Here are the lyrics to Lara's Theme.

Somewhere, my love, there will be songs to sing

Although the snow covers the hopes of Spring

Somewhere a hill blossoms in green and gold

And there are dreams, all that your heart can hold

Someday we'll meet again, my love

Someday whenever the Spring breaks through

You'll come to me out of the long-ago

Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow

Till then, my sweet, think of me now and then

Godspeed, my love, till you are mine again

<jazz instrumental-first four lines>

Someday we'll meet again, my love

I said "someday whenever that Spring breaks through"

You'll come to me out of the long-ago

Warm as the wind, and as soft as the kiss of snow

Till then, my sweet, think of me now and then

Godspeed, my love, till you are mine again!

Good morning WA2K radio audience.

You're right, edgar. I knew the lyrics didn't fit the meter of Lara's Theme, but I got a late night call from my daughter, and I froze. As it turns out, all is still well with my son, however.

Hey, Brit. Loved the theme from Lawrence of Arabia. Peter O'Toole was awesome in that movie.

Wow! Didn't know his son, but I love the calypso. Little did I know of the story behind it.(odd the skeleton wearing a mask)

Waiting for Cousteau (French title: En attendant Cousteau) is an album by Jean Michel Jarre, released in 1990 on Disques Dreyfus, licensed to Polydor. The album was dedicated to Jacques-Yves Cousteau and was released on his 80th birthday June 11, 1990. The title of the album is a reference to Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot. Yikes! Samuel Becket? He's the same one that did Breath.

Well, folks, today is Ewan McGregor's birthday, so let's hear a tribute to the Moulin Rouge man.

@Letty,
Hey Letty & WA2K

Apologies for the tune last nite which made you sad.

Hoping this one is better .... these are words I need to say out loud....often.

Come What May
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVAoKTKFDzU

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Every day I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

[Chorus:]
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you
And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather
And stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Oh, come what may, come what may
I will love you, I will love you
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place

So glad son is alright - think of you everyday Letty - always in my heart x Thinking of you too Edgar... and your family. x

<edit... Morning Bazza - there's a little fella here who needs to say a word to you..... will call you in just a bit.... need to get a cuppa 'fore I start rabbiting!!!!!!!!!!!>
