@edgarblythe,
Me, too, edgar. Red Foley's Smoke on the Water brought back a few memories. Thanks, Texas

Had a wee bit of trouble getting into our studio this evening. Not certain why.

How about this for a goodnight song, y'all. Wonder how many of our listeners can name all the songs.

Let's remember hbg's picture connection, ok?

Goodnight,

From Letty with love

Good morning, WA2K folks.

Hey, Brit. Didn't know Paula Estrada. Wonder if she is any kin to Eric. Liked the song by her, however, and Marvin. Love him!

Well, I went to the archives and found this concerning Yellow Bird.

As calypso music rose in popularity in the United States in the mid-1950s, the melody of the Haitian song "Choucoune" was adapted by Norman Luboff and new English lyrics were written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Although the lyrics of "Yellow Bird" bear no relation to those of the original, the words "ti zwazo" (little birds) are part of the chorus of "Choucoune."
The song first appeared on the Norman Luboff Choir's Calypso Holiday album in 1957 and was subsequently by others and was the title cut on albums by the Mills Brothers, Roger Williams, and Lawrence Welk. Although the song was associated by Americans with the Caribbean, it was also recorded by the Hawaiian exotica Arthur Lyman Group in 1961. This version would be the only one to become a Top 40 pop hit (and it was Lyman's only Top 40 appearance as well) peaking at number 4 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100.
The song continues to be popularly associated with calypso and the Caribbean and is often performed by steelpan bands but some versions, such as Chris Isaak's from Baja Sessions, retain a Hawaiian flavor.

edgar, I recognized most of your themes from TV, but they were all listed in the "more info" section.

My word, Jackie Wilson's song was taken from this one.

And one more from The Steele Band man.

Back later to review the retinue.

The author of Yellow Bird also wrote this song, to the same tune:

Don't Ever Love Me

While in that gay tropic isle
I first saw that maiden smile
Though I had failed in the past
I said "this is true love at last"
But then she whispered to me
That our love never could be

CHORUS
Destiny, oh when will I see the day?
Hopelessly, I've wandered so long this way
"This could never be" she said pleadingly
"Don't ever love me, I'm just fancy-free"
"This could never be" she said pleadingly
"Don't ever love me"

My love was motion and grace
The moonlight soft on her face
I held her close in my arms
My heart was quick to her charms
But then I saw in her glance
It was just an evening's romance

CHORUS

"This could never be" she said pleadingly
"Don't ever love me"

recorded by Harry Belafonte

@edgarblythe,
Ah, edgar. I love "Old Melodies and Memories". They keep running through my mind as well. Is that the hampsters or hamsters that have turned everything upside down?

Is this the melody you were looking for, Texas?

honu, thanks for accepting our gracious invitation to return. I had no idea that Miles was an amateur boxer. Ah, the Jack Johnson progressions. Love it.

thanks for the invite, and Miles did box, but how well, i don't know. but he was noted for always speaking in a hoarse whisper that was a result of being hit in the throat while boxing.

@Letty,
good day , music lovers and friends !
it's a bit of a dreary day - overcast and rain in the forecast , but the birds , rabbits and sqirrels are busy in the garden , and that makes me happy .
crocus are flowering , daffodils and tulips are coming along nicely - have started SPRING CLEAN-Up ... VERY SLOWLY and will continue it that way .

edgar :
here is another song that has a special but undefineable meaning to me - starts out just a touch on the sad side but turns quickly into a happy tune :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyLjbMBpGDA

i think duke ellington's intro is so true :

"he was born a poor boy , died rich and never hurt anybody along the way "

he might have added : "and got chased by a few jealous husbands as a young fellow " - that's a/t to his autobiography .

did you know that he always carried a portable typewriter on his many travels and set time aside every day to record the events of the day ?

of course , he also had to have his daily "toke" - one but not more apparently .

louis is probably responsible for turning me onto jazz after WW II when i listened to him on U.S. armed forces network radio .
i treasure both his many vinyls and a few cd's in my collection - the vinyls are still the best imo .

hbg, Love Louis and When the Saints Go Marchin In is one of my favorites. Thanks, Canada. The Duke, of course, is to die for.

Hey, Rockhead. I checked out Rumble Fish. What a cast, Kansas. "Don't Box Me In" was good. Never heard it before.

How about a little Cannonball, folks.

Pssst, edgar. Hamsters, but I like the idea of HAMPSTERS as it reminds me of Lionel.
