Good afternoon, all

Thanks, Rock, for Eric Clapton's "Over the Rainbow" and Izzie for his "Change the World". Really enjoyed both songs.

edgar, Never heard of that lady and her Dream, but thanks

How about something classical and something jazzy, y'all.

First a jazz waltz called Bluesette.

Now the classic, "Ode to Joy"

Soccer George, welcome back. I listened to Lucia Micarelli's Emmauel several times. It is beautiful. Chris Botti plays one helluva trumpet, too. Just found out that Lucia does her thing with Jethro Tull as well. Hard to believe that she's a rock star.

edgar, the Gatlin Brothers and Johnny did a terrific job with the "gold in California." Often we find that there's fool's gold there as well.

Yep, Bluesette is a waltz that made it in the jazz area. Love it, too.

Love the flute, and here's another great flautist; Herbie Mann and company.

@edgarblythe,
jane bunnett and " the spirits of havana " - seeing and hearing her once , one wants to see and hear her again .
she has done much work in preserving many of the old cuban music and also by personally helping up-and-coming cuban jazz musicians

last year she brought several young cuban artists to kingston - they later went on a tour of other canadian jazz venues - a treat for the ears and the eyes !

great writeup in "all about jazz"

http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/musician.php?id=5458

Quote:
Jane Bunnett, the Toronto soprano saxophonist, flutist and bandleader and her husband, trumpeter Larry Cramer have built their careers at the crossroads between Cuban music and jazz. Twice nominated for Grammy Awards and a fixture at the nominations for Canada's Juno Awards, their bands are virtual showcases for the finest musical talent from Canada, the United States and Cuba

Hi, dys. Loved that John Stewart song. "turning music into gold" Like that as well.

hbg, that was a fabulous jazz ensemble. Jane Burnett is lovely and plays it like it should be played. The combination of Wade in the Water and the Cuban jazz was perfect. Thanks, buddy.

Tried to locate George Shearing and "Sand in my shoes; Sand from Havana." No luck, however.

Well, folks, time for me to say goodnight, and let's listen to Nana because she's right. Sorry for the out of sync bit.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, Do you like Jerry Lee? Razz

I do, Texas, and thanks for the reminder.

Here is a lovely song by Ravi Shankar's daughter to greet the day.

@Barry The Mod,
How strange the synchronicity, Brit. I was just listening to Debussy's Reverie which is, of course,is a daydream. Odd too that Dusty does some rap on that particular song as it's also M.C. Hammer's birthday.

Here is Debussy and the lyrics taken from the classic, y'all.

Our love
Is a dream, but in my reverie
I can see that this love was meant for me
Only a poor fool
Never schooled in the whirlpool
Of romance could be so cruel
As you are to me

My dreams are as worthless as tin to me
Without you life will never begin to be

So love me
As I love you in my reverie
Make my dream a reality
Let's dispense with formality
Come to me in my reverie

Didn't know Ravi had any family. Barry's song was a good one, and Debussy always good. Jerry Lee was my teen idol and I still like much of his stuff.

@edgarblythe,
My word, edgar, I had no idea that Roy Orbison did "What Now my Love". I love it, Texas, nor can I believe that song was covered by so many. Never heard him sound better.

Guess whose birthday is today, folks.

Let's allow Don McLean to tell us.

Van Gogh's Apricot Trees in spring. Our art for today.

http://www.vangoghgallery.com/catalog/image.aspx?fn=images/0555.jpg

In a fit of epilepsy, Van Gogh attacked his friend Gaugin with a razor. In defense, Gaugin fought back and Van Gogh severed a part of his own ear.
