There was an episode of M*A*S*H* in which that Les Brown record was played incessantly, until Col. Potter finally grew weary of it. I always thought that was a great recording.

I have been trying to open the youtube, but it won't work for me just now. I see by the title it is not the same recording of the song I was refering to.

@edgarblythe,
Oops, missed that one, edgar. While you search, we'll salute Billy Crystal whose birthday is today. What a mimic, folks.

Here he is as Fernando Lamas. Love it!

Possibly the first 45 I bought, although it could instead have been Whole Lot of Shaking Going On.

Good morning, WA2K folks. How about something funny this early morning.

http://harobedretsiger.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/julie-andrews-turns-69-0608.jpg

Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary
movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

(Sing It!) - If you sing it, it's especially hysterical!!!

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd
that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.

Thanks to edgar for Travis Tritt hit, Kalamazoo, and Great Balls of Fire
To dys for "Don't Fence me In"
And to Barry the Brit for Pet Shop Boy and Dusty.

Had to go to Ormond Beach to get a great dinner last evening. The Outback is the last of the good restaurants in my area. Le Mer shut down and my heart really hurts for Roberto and family.

Today is Phil Lesh's birthday(Grateful Dead) so how about this one, y'all.

@Izzie,
Good afternoon, Izzie. Joel Chandler Harris attempted to pass on the oral tradition of music just as so many Africans did. Too bad that it was considered racist, because it wasn't. The Tar Baby was simply about something made from tar; North Carolinians are called tar heels because they literally got tar on the heels of their feet after walking on the beach.

We have oral tradition in my family as well. I can hear in my head my daddy and me singing together, The Old Apple Tree in the Orchard. Cannot find the music just the lyrics.

Here's a Benny Goodman song from out of the past, folks.

@edgarblythe,
Love that one, edgar, but I also like the lyrics by this guy.
Bob Wills

Deep within my heart lies a melody,
A song of old San Antone.
Where in dreams I live with a memory,
Beneath the stars, all alone.

Well it was there I found, beside the Alamo,
Enchantments strange as the blue up above.
For that moonlit pass, that only he would know,
Still hears my broken song of love.

Moon in all your splendor, known only to my heart,
Call back my rose, rose of San Antone.
Lips so sweet and tender, like petals falling apart,
Speak once again of my love, my own.

Broken song, empty words I know,
Still live in my heart all alone.
For that moonlit pass by the Alamo,
And rose, my rose of San Antone.

Broken song, empty words I know,
Still live in my heart all alone.
For that moonlit pass by the Alamo.
And rose, my rose of San Antone.

And rose, my rose of San Antone.
And rose, my rose of San Antone.

Happy Birthday Samuel lightnin' Hopkins

Altovise Davis, widow to Sammy Davis Jr, has died. Here she appears in a movie trailer. Caution: the trailer touts a film that is ridiculously awful.
